INITIAL IMAGE/ LAYOUT IDEAS FOR MAGAZINE ADVERT:

In my initial ideas, I used the same typography as the front cover, which is ‘blippo light’, I identified this to be the largest text on the advert and to be positioned at the top of the magazine advert, and this emphasises and engages audiences in identifying the new album and the new artist. I also used different phrases to grab the audience’s attention such as ‘exclusive’ or ‘no. 1 smash hit’. Furthermore, I was unsure which image was best suited to the magazine poster due to the multiple successful ranges of images I had taken. In addition, I identified the positioning of the album front cover and additional texts as well as what the texts should consist of. However, I was unsure of what colour the text should be, in the initial ideas I choose white as it was consistent with the front cover and back cover texts as well as it complemented the main image.

MAGAZINE PROGRESS:

1-2) The first progress of the magazine poster the mastehead typography is ‘bremcatcher’ from online website and the size was changed also an additional feature such as lines added to make its significance increased, also the release of the album is the same typography as the mastehead and it is positioned directly bellow, this is because the adverts aim is to sell the album. Therefore this is an important feature on the advert, being positioned bellow the mastehead makes this text obvious to

the audience. In addition ‘in stores’ was changed to ‘out’ as this covers all the different ways audiences are now able to purchase music such as online and in stores. Furthermore, some words was changed in order to be more engaging such as ‘includes’ to ‘exclusive’, also logo of places to purchase the product was added to allow audiences to identify where to purchase the product from. An editing technique used on the main image is balance being changed this made the images colours become more vibrant in comparison to the original image also the brightness and contrast was added in order to balance out the brightness in the original image, this editing effect makes the image more engaging and interesting. In addition, editing techniques used is cropping and resizing the image in order for the main image (artist) to be positioned on the right.

3-4-5) In these parts of the editing progress an editing technique used is background blurring, this effect was used as it further enhances the main image, which consists of the artist, this effect also allows the text which is placed on top to not be overwhelmed by the texture and colour of the background. In these progresses features of the advert was removed such logos of where to purchase the product from, this was as a result of this limiting audiences choice of purchase and I identified this not to be a common feature of existing magazine adverts. Furthermore, the production logo was added as this was identified to be an important feature of music magazine adverts. In these progresses I was experimenting with the texts typography, size, colour and position.

6-7-8-9) In these progresses an important magazine advert feature was added, this Is the star rating and a quote from newspaper, this are both features I identified to be an important conventions of music magazine posters as this is a way of persuading and seizing the audience attention, which will result in them being interested in the album and will then purchase the product. The text that includes information on the album is white, I choose this text to be different colour to the other texts as it enhances the emphasis of this text but also it maintains consistency as the typography font is ‘blippo light’ similar to the front cover mastehead, in addition the front cover consists of a white boarder this ties this writing with the album, also the colour white is present on the artist and boarders are further used in the poster at the top and bottom, this maintains consistency as well. In these progresses I was also trying out different editing techniques to enhance the significance of particular words such as ‘1 HIT’ and ‘you don’t know me’, I did this by adding inner glow and drop shadows as well as by increasing the size of these words.

10-11-12-13) In these progresses I was altering the position of the text and the colour, I also attempted to add shapes and background colours to this text, in order for it to be eye catching and target the audience. In addition, the production logo is included in the right bottom corner, this was a suitable size and position for this logo as it does not effect the other texts.

Final-

14) This is the final progress for the magazine poster, I choose to maintain the typography ‘blippo light’ on the text to ensure consistency, I also kept it all in caps lock in order for its significance to be enhanced, however the ‘±1’ colour is changed to the same yellow colour found on the front cover leaf, I identified adding colour used in the image to the texts is a convention used on music posters, this also reinforces consistency at the same time it further emphasise the word. The editing effects used on the text of ‘hit’ and ‘you don’t know me’ is kept as it enhances the words and makes it more apparent that they are significant. The album cover image is positioned at the top of the text as it enables the audience to identify how the product appears which will make it easier for them to purchase, it also will further enthuse them in purchasing the product as it will appeal the target audience.
