Layout- The layout of this music magazine shows that the target market of ‘Q’ could be a middle income band as the magazine looks quite cluttered and full compared to a higher end magazine cover aimed a high income band. The layout shows a bold masthead, full body image of a musician, an image of another band, puffs and plugs.

Image/Graphics- The image that is on the cover of the magazine is of the musician Matt Bellamy, the image is a full body image of the musician with a guitar. The masthead has been edited to look as if the musician had smashed it, this is a good and effective example of editing. The person on the image has not got eye contact with the consumer of the magazine making it not as personal.

Headline- The headline is underneath the masthead, this could be set out this way as the image is full body image and having the headline any higher or in another position could mean that the headline could be blocking the image potentially misleading the consumer.

Layout- The layout of this music magazine could suggest that the target market of ‘Top of the Pops’ are a younger, low income market, the cover of the magazine is covered with text and images making the page look busy and full. Compared to a higher market cover, the layout is very crammed and has lots of information on it.

Image/Graphics- The main image that is on the cover of the magazine is a pop star (medium close up shot), this gives away the genre of the magazine. The musician also has eye contact with the consumer making it personal. However there are many other smaller images on the cover which are also pop stars and boy bands that appeal to the younger market. The images on the magazine such as the fashion related images give away that the magazine is aimed at young girls.

House Style- ‘Top of the Pops’ has a consistent colour scheme of pink, white and purple. These colours are stereotypical ‘girlie’ colours that will appeal more to the young girl market. The colour scheme is consistent and shows that the magazine has been finished to a high standard.

Masthead- The masthead is the title of the magazine or the name. The masthead is at the top of the cover, it is also covering part of the image, this could show that this magazine may not be a popular or well known magazine as the masthead dominates the image. The masthead is unique and quirky as the ‘of the’ is positioned within a shape.

Headline- The headline is above the masthead, this could be due to the fact that there is already a lot of images and information underneath the masthead. It could also be positioned there so the consumer looks at the masthead first and then the headline.
