Maes Y Dderwen“My husband had his home built for our family 28 years ago, and it has been a fantastic family home ever since,” said Mrs Jones.

“The area is simply stunning. There is a wonderful village atmosphere here with a lovely community spirit. In the immediate vicinity, we have the local school just 800 metres away, and, of course, the beach is about the same distance from our front door. It’s one of the best beaches in the whole of the Pembrokeshire National Park and it is very popular with locals and tourists alike. There is also a golf course just across the river, and a boat club nearby.

“In the summer, the area really comes alive with lots of tourists giving the village a fantastic atmosphere. Everyone is out and about, whether at the shops, having a bite to eat, taking a walk through the National Park or enjoying the beach. The house is in a great spot between the mountain behind us and the sea below.

“I think the property would suit a family, as there is enough room for everyone with the five bedrooms, or perhaps a retiring couple who would enjoy using the outdoor swimming pool when the weather is good,” concluded Mrs Jones.

Favourite room:The views from the lounge sitting area are wonderful. It’s possible to see right across the bay over to the estuary where the river joins the sea. In summer, it’s a particularly lovely place to sit.

Favourite aspect of the grounds or surrounding area:The outdoor pool is a fantastic asset to the house. It’s around fifteen metres long, so perfect for swimming a few lengths.

Memorable event:We have spent many memorable Christmas seasons here, as there is a great space for a large tree. Plus, there is always a great atmosphere in both the village and the house during bank holidays as we always have lots of people staying over.

What they’ll miss the most/why they’re moving:We have had lots of family events this house, and some of our summer BBQs stick out in my mind.


Maes Y Cnwce sits in an elevated position on the edge of the popular upmarket seaside town of Newport, within the Pembrokeshire National Park. Set in approximately 3 acres of private grounds accessed by secure wooden gates and a curved lamp lit driveway, the gardens are mainly laid to lawn, with mature hedging and an array of perennial shrubs in the borders.

The owners were very discriminating in their choice of location and design when the home was custom built 28 years ago. With five bedrooms, large principle rooms as well as a games room and sauna on the lower level, there is ample living space, making it ideal as a family home, or holiday property.

Newport is one of the most sought after areas in West Wales. It is a charming village with a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants. Maes Y Cnwce is within easy walking distance of the centre of the village, the beach with it’s coastal park walks, and the charming harbour and yacht club. The Newport links golf course is a short drive away.

The approach to the house is via steps to the impressive and welcoming entrance hall:

ENTRANCE HALLFully glazed doors and floor to ceiling windows enable natural light to flood into the spacious hall which features stone walls, wooden beams and a recessed gas effect fire in a slate, tile and copper hearth. A circular seat created around the central vertical column provides a unique sitting area with lovely coastal views. A spiral staircase leads down to the games and relaxation area as well the garage. Two closets provide storage.

Leading off the entrance to the principal rooms is a long hallway amply lit with natural light via three large windows and two glazed doors, which provide access to the rear patio and garden. To the left several steps take you to:

LIVING ROOMAn extremely spacious room with a stone feature wall and wooden mantle, beamed ceilings and impressive views. Two large windows sit either side of French doors giving access to the extensive patio areas and pool. Windows to either side give views of Dinas Head on one side and the pool and patio area on the other. An impressive slate and stone hearth house a large, multi fuel burner providing warmth and a cosy atmosphere to this very accommodating living area. Several steps down lead through an archway to the kitchen. Stairs lead up to:

MEZZANINE SITTING ROOMA bright, spacious room to relax, read or simply enjoy the stunning views. Flooded with natural light via 4 floor to ceiling windows to the front and two large velux windows to the rear it features a stone wall as well as a vaulted and beamed ceiling, creating a feeling of space and airiness.

KITCHEN AND BREAKFAST ROOMSteps down from the living room lead to a combined kitchen and eating area with floor to ceiling windows and doors, leading to the patio and pool.
