Exquisite Pieces is a duo consisting of two classy, gorgeous ladies who love to dance. We primarily twerk, but we also choreograph and perform full routines. We have been dancing most of our lives. We are originally from Detroit, MI but right now we are currently college students in Lima, OH. Blondie (Courtney) also praise dances and does modern and ballet. She choreographs modern dances back at her high school from time to time. Chocolate Wonder (Chevonne) has also done modern dancing. She has even been crowned hip roll queen of Detroit! We both feel that we have been born to dance and we have chosen to pursue our dancing careers together. Once the group was official, we started making videos and uploading them to sites such as YouTube and Facebook to get daily viewers. We have been asked to perform at parties, clubs, and music videos. Exquisite Pieces’ long-term goal is to become professional dancers. We would like to be featured in videos and/or be asked to choreograph dances. All in all, we will never give up on our dream; we will strive for bigger and better opportunities to fulfill our career. If you are interested in seeing some of our work, you can go to http://www.youtube.com/user/exquisitepieces?feature=mhee. MACTUNES MAGAZINE

I took a trip to the legendary city of Manhattan to introduce the magazine to the East Coast. I met with several people in the fields of music, publishing, fashion and media. The reviews were positive. I wanted to see if we could hold an audience with Indies artist and writers. We seem to keep our audience entertained.

MACTUNES @ the Apollo

Another task was to establish contacts for advertising in our magazine. As a magazine we must earn our income by companies purchasing space from us each month. We were able to open some doors of

opportunity with our magazine. The key to our success together is to publish articles, features, lessons, and data in the magazine about Indies artist accomplishments and failures. Our magazine will not

represent just musical talent. We plan to capture all talent associated with media such stylist, designers, artist, photographers, musicians of all types, producers, etc..... We want to be a learning tool and a

networking base for our supporters as well as a strong entity for the up and coming talent.

For every generation and season, a voice is heard. It’s a voice that salutes the legends before them and gracefully accepts the challenge of continuing in their footsteps. A voice that demands attention, pushes the envelope, and evokes emotions.

Through her electrifying showmanship, bold sound and ability to redefine trends, songstress Vina Mills is more than just an entertainer, she is the Voice of this generation.

In April of 2011 Vina released her first national single “Love Again”. The mid tempo melodic track driven by instrumentation of continuous heart like pulsating drum beats and crying strings visually depicts the feeling of falling in Love.

With the distinctive rasp of her sultry vocals paired with sophisticated 808 and a rhythmic hook, Vina has created the ultimate hit for all music lovers.

MacTunes caught up with this dynamic beauty to see what’s going on in her world of stardom. Check out the interview...

When and where did your musical journey begin?

My musical journey started when i was about 5 years old. My dad was a musician, he actually wrote songs for Dolly Parton way before i was born. My

brothers and i didn't grow up in wealth. Toys and games were limited, so our father made up songs for us as a source of entertainment. He knew right

away that i had something special and from then on my training began.

How would you describe the sound and style of Vina Mills?

I call my style and sound "Electric Soul". Its soul music that makes u dance (smiling)! its honest music that makes you feel good. !Every song i write is from

a personal experience, something all my listeners can relate to and learn from.

As an independent artist, we know the road gets tough at times. What keeps you motivated?

What keeps me going is self motivation. Its just in me to be confident and believe that I'm going to be bigger than I could ever imagine.. Music is

something i cant live without, its how I express myself. Just waking up is motivating enough, and I take that feeling to write an amazing record.

What have been some monumental moments in your career thus far?

I've been fortunate to have two monumental moments that happened to me before. (1) a young lady! dressed up as me for Halloween (laughing) and (2)

another young lady a different time came to me in tears and told me that i changed her life for the better..... No matter how many records i sell, tours i

do, movies, endorsements anything, nothing is more full filling than inspiring someone by simply being myself. That is the very reason I'm so honest in my

music because you never know who's life your speaking to.

What has been one of the biggest challenges you’ve had to overcome as an artist?

One of the biggest challenges I've had to face thus far is trusting people. I've come to realize that there is NO love in this business (laughing). The real !

love dwells in the art of music and the fans. People will use you, lie to you, take advantage of you, all for greed. Its best to keep everything professional

and keep the same circle of people that you began with, even if that eliminate half of your circle.

We’ve followed your career since your days in Detroit with Live TMG. What prompted the transition to Atlanta?

My transition to Atlanta was a strategic move for my

career . Most of my business relationships are here so it

was convenient for me. But I'm a PROUD DETROIT

GIRL! If you ask anyone anywhere about me they'd say

"Detroit is Vina" (laughing) I love my city.

Are there any thoughts of signing with a major label

right now?

I'm in talks with major labels. I've been taking my time

to build my brand while courting labels so that I am

fully equipped to get the BEST! situation possible. I

believe its very important to sign with a label that best

represent you and your brand as a artist. The goal is to

be main stream, so I'm doing what i have to do to get

there. i won't settle for anything less!

What is Vina Mills doing when not hitting the big

stages?

When I'm not working, I'm working (laughing)!!! work is

fun for me so its kind of not work to me. But winning is

always on my mind. I don't know when my big time will

come but I'm constantly preparing for it. Perfecting my

gift on and off stage.

What is one piece of advice that you could share with

indie artists who are aspiring to be successful?

The advice I could give is to always be yourself, NEVER

QUIT, make hit records and always remember to have

fun while doing it. Those are the only rules to being

successful in this business.

What can we expect in the near future from you?

Future expectations from me could be, changing the

world one record at a time!

Born Shamir Polanco, May 10 1989, Bronx, New York City, New York, USA.

Bringing that rugged and gritty urban sound of New York City to his music with a fresh-new style.

He is setting himself to stand alone believing in versatility but also in being a trend-setter

“I don’t want to be the guy that sounds like the other guy, I want to be the Artist who sets the trend, not follows it” This mentality shows what his music represents originality and attitude a guy who wants to do it his way. His music is raw and real and sometimes ugly in other words life. His music tells his story but also things that a lot of us can relate too or have even experienced. SlliQ started to rap at the age of 13 as a way to escape the struggles of a young Hispanic kid who felt lost after losing his father due to brain cancer. At first just a hobby but after a

year or two it became a passion, a way to express himself. After hooking up with Mix he started making music, by the age of 15 he was a regular in the studio with his best friend Maze, and together along with Kasper and Bronx Tale they formed Knuckle Game Entertainment. “Dream Team” was their introductory track with hardcore attitude and street mentality this set the standard for the type of music he will bring. In 2006 they recorded their first mixtape “ The Dough Equals Equity” with tracks like” Legacy”, “Ur not Me”, “Decisionz”, and “Dear Dad” a song written in letter form to his late Father SlliQ show’s his diversity and talent. He speaks on emotions and lessons learned the hard way, music became his life. “No sugar codes, no beating around the bush. I’m going to speak it how I felt it at the moment, and that’s my attitude in life”. SlliQ’s personal influences include his

Grandmother, Father, Mother, and his little brother who have shaped the person he is today. Musically his influences include the late Notorious BIG, The Lox, Jay-Z, Eminem, Fabolous, Ludacris, DMX, Nas and Snoop Dogg. Definitely a rich hip-hop background, but SlliQ is not focused on making music for Hip-Hop listeners only. He wants his listeners to be able to relate or understand where he comes from and where he is trying to go no matter where you’re from. “We don’t have to be the same for you to feel me”. SlliQ is now working on his new project his first solo mix tape “Shnow Tape”! The mixtape has a lot of flavor, swag, raw, and street sound to it with tracks like “Creep”, “Biggest Fan” and “Joey Montana Freestyle” this is definitely one for the ages and a new sound that would certainly keep your ears glue to the speakers.

Hip Hop is making a major comeback and as the styles change, so does the game. 15 year old, female emcee Lil Lexy plans to change the game in her own way, her pursuit to "build an empire".!

" It all began in Boston Massachusetts at the age of 4 when her uncle gave Lexy her first Karaoke machine. Preforming at

family parties and memorizing all of her favorite music videos, Lexy began writing her first raps at age 7. Lil Lexy continued to preform for crowds any chance she got.!

" Working with other local artists on her own, the hardships of the music game started becoming apparent but with her hunger to learn and impeccable

grind Lexy refused to slow down. Concentrating on keeping her grades up in school and spending every free moment she has in the booth, Lexy knew she needed a foundation for this empire,! she brought her talent to! Rushya/ Rushin Embassy Ent. Roxbury MA based company/record label.! "I was woman enough to fix my mistakes and move forward,!I feel like!God took me through!stress

then handed me success to make me realize I'm blessed.! You know everything happens for a reason, if I didnt make mistakes i would be young and dumb forever".

# With a delivery and flow often compared to legendary female emcee Roxanne Shante, Lexy is already invading the airwaves of Boston radio with her single "No Cinderella". Along side Rushya, Lil Lexy's buzz in Boston is picking up at a rapid rate. WAYNE FORTUNE

In the last few years the music industry has seen a rise in the number of pop artists to top the US charts from the UK. It comes as no surprise that British rapper Wayne Fortune hailing from North West London is fast becoming recognized as the all-embracing talent that can truly challenge the US Hip Hop market.

The well-timed artist has built an irrefutable underground reputation in the US as the "Bloke From London". Wayne began capturing audiences in Atlanta, and then in 2008 he opened for slum village at Center Stage. He was later featured in Rolling Out Magazine alongside fellow Brit Estelle for London's stake in Hip Hops global reach. The following year he released a promo single appropriately titled "Bloke From London", an undeniable street anthem with an ingeniously incorporated Jay-Z sample that

exploded online boasting over 1 million hits.

Poised for success and with his feet firmly on the ground, Wayne Fortune exemplifies a well-traveled and impeccably tailored European class, style and wit that are both charismatic and fearless. Continuing his mission to put British talent firmly on the map Wayne Fortune recently partnered with the Artzmen, a team of Brooklynite 's who's well crafted production compliments his unique sound and delivery that can be found on his latest Mixtape, also titled "Bloke From London". As he draws his US fans closer, Wayne Fortune has cleverly carved out his own lane that offers Hip Hop an exciting and fresh new perspective.

In the beginning Johnny Rei was average working class kid living in Bratislava, Slovakia. But when he was twelve he realized that he wants to be a famous singer. No money, no

contacts, no english. Nothing but faith. At the age of 21 Johnny Rei moved to London. After he learned english he started recording his debut album - in his bedroom. Everything you hear is composed and recorded by himself with live instruments.Today Johnny Rei is gaining success with album called "Number One Single". He is working hard to be as much visible and recognizable as possible, holding to his faith. What's next?

INTERVIEW WITH DANI CLAYHow would you describe your sound? It's hard to describe my sound, as i have been inspired and influenced by so many different artists from all sorts of genres. I grew up listening to Bob Marley and Gregory Isaac, then in my teens I loved the likes of Michael Jackson, Salt n Pepa, TLC, Boys 2 Men, Whitney Houston and Brandy, but as i reached my mid twenties i was hugely inspired by James Brown, Ann Peebles, Tina Turner, Bb King, Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix, Etta James,Stevie Wonder, the list is endless. So i guess to just make it easy for everyone i say Pop/RNB, then i can take my music anywhere it wants to take me through the creative studio and writing process. Powerful soul tingling vocals is definitely my thing.

What would you say are the biggest differences between spreading your music in the UK versus in the United States?

Everywhere no matter what country your from and where you place your music, is!SATURATED with unsigned artists/acts trying to be heard and to be seen, Good or bad. I feel that the music industry is more saturated now than ever before due to a lot of reality TV singing competitions. Who seem to have raised the profile of singing as a career, but yet glamorizing the lifestyle/perks and achievements like it's served on a silver platter. But in the real world, it's not like that, it's real tough to be seen and heard, AND to be taken seriously and not just as another act jumping on the bandwagon of stardom. Self promotion is time consuming, exhausting and at times VERY confusing when your constantly OVERLOOKED, or IGNORED. It takes passion, commitment and a lot of drive, to finally get recognized for your skills. I can honestly say that there is no difference, it's all about putting in the hard work CONSISTENTLY(not just at the weekends)!whilst never being afraid of knocking on those once before closed doors.

What has your experience been like, working with the OXJAM Festival in aid for Africa's Food Crisis?

It's has been an amazing experience, and I am totally thankful to Tim Byrne who put it all together at the Bowery in London. To be apart of this MASSIVE music movement!that the hugely successful charity "Oxfam" put on across the whole of the UK, is an honor. Raising money for Africa's Food Crisis with my voice and my band is the least i could do, and i pray for those individuals that we!ALL as a globe work towards helping them in their time of need.!I met other skillful artists on the night, and you'll be very surprised at how the unsigned community are such a great support net for each other and for this exceptional charity. You can find my performance video footage of this night on my reverbnation page www.reverbnation.com/daniclay

!Considering the many challenges and changes you have faced in the music industry, what has kept you motivated?

#1, my fans..... There are quite a few things that have kept me optimistic throughout my journey so far, where at times i could have easily collapsed into a hopeless heap and given it all up. But without a doubt my fans always keep me smiling....their positive comments and support in spreading my music across the globe is a priceless effort, that they seem to do without me asking for it. Helping me with my Facebook campaigns and coming to my show's, has always made me say to myself "Dani, you gotta keep going, coz one day these fans will reap it too"

What was your experience like as a bootcamp contestant on the X Factor (UK)?It was insightful...hahahaha. It was something i guess i had to experience, when you've had so many people say NO, so many doors closed, you grab an opportunity as and when it comes to you, and this was!one of them. Remember it takes at least 3 auditions to get through before your considered to go and audition in front of the judges.!I guess this is a way of filtering it right down, as it would take most part of the year for the judges to see EVERYONE.!There was over 200'000 people that auditioned for the UK show, and i was one of the 180 acts sent into bootcamp. So i am really proud to have achieved that, and those long queues are for real. So it was well worth it. I met some lovely people, i enjoyed all the workshops they put us through, and it was amazing to meet Kelly Rowland who was one of the judges. They all said positive things about my performance, i remember Kelly Rowland saying " Mama, you were amazing, you gotta believe in yourself and go for it". I really wanted to shout back "I DO BELIEVE IN MYSELF, DAMN IT" hahaha,!but i didn’t.!Unfortunately i didn’t get through to the judges houses, WHY?? i have no idea...As part of the over 25 category, taking into account everyone in that category, i walked away from that VERY confused. But thats showbiz, and i've had it for 12 years, so i'm used to it, after a week or so, i picked myself up again and went out and did a great gig, with my band, so that lifted my spirits.

What great things can we expect next from Dani Clay?

Well one has already happened, and thats being apart of MacTunes Radio & Magz, Loads of Love to you guys....The UK are gonna love you. I don’t like to reveal too much, as you may know yourself that at times not everything goes to plan and some changes and minor alterations may have to be made. But there is a few exciting projects I am involved in, here in the UK and the USA, so follow me on Twitter @daniclay1, and you'll be the first to know about it all when it unfolds. I can mention though, via reverbnation i have acquired quite a few coast2coast mixtape fans and they have requested for me to submit material to also be apart of that amazing movement, so i have a profile on Coast2Coastmixtapes.com, leave a comment, share my music...create that buzz and hopefully i'll get my slot on the next up and coming mixtape.

Loving you is all that I wanna do, from the top of my head, to the tip of my shoes.

All I want is your gentle touch and warming smile, to see you happy..makes it all worthwhile.

You make my heart beat faster and I get butterflies every time that I mention your name,

I can always be loved..but never the same.Through the tests of time you have proved to me

that I was always yours and you were mine, Like a flower in full bloom, our love got better with time.

I've waited for this kind of love, and I know that you have too...from the moment we first held hands,

until we stood at the alter..kissed...and said I do <3

Love has no measure, rightIs it possible to love without limits

Can you express all your love in minutesSeconds, hours, all in one day would be impossible right

Can't I express my love everyother dayI'll start by showing, besides a simple say

I'll start by being considerate I'll show my actions are true

And definite is the only word to explain my love for youA song writer would put it in a song to make you sing along

A poet would do as I to make you feel a connection between my heart and yours

A teacher would simply teach you ways to accept what God has destined for us

A mathematician would use algebraic expressions to show our desire for one another is a plus

But how will you return the mutual feelingIf we forget our past this love can be your heartbreak healing

JOSHUA

“Joshua” is a new group to the game featuring two white Hip Hop/Rap superstars that have been approached by

many labels but soon realized nothing is what it seems. With that said they have started a new era of ownership of their material and because of that they have reached much more success than ever imagined. “Bang Bang” (A Soulja Bioy Diss Track) was inspired by the group’s mentor and friend “Ice-T and Black Silver” and now the song has reached nationwide success. “Joshua” came about because both of the artists are named “Joshua” and they are born exactly a month apart with the same day and year, so it only made sense to call themselves by their God-given name. Looka From The Top is from Topeka, Kansas, and D.E. is from Salt Lake City, Utah, ad even thought they have never met face to face, they have been able to become a group via the internet. Since then they have been coming out with hit after hit and they soon will be able to meet face to face with the touring that is about to commence this Spring and Summer. Love In & Out Of The StudioThe story of NTG and Yung Draw, two rappers on their grind while holding each other down

Being an entertainer is hard; even harder when you are independent; even more than that, when your significant other is not supportive of your career. But if you’re lucky, you may lighten your burdens by finding that perfect match. The one you can’t live without and also understands that you can’t live without your music! I imagine that many entertainers hope to find someone in the industry with them and have that Jay Z and Beyoncé love along with that Jay Z and Beyoncé money.

We wanted to hear from those of you that have found that special love from someone who is also rocking the mic. So we reached out to our Philly home girl, NTG. One of the hardest working indie Philly female emcees, NTG still found love. And lucky for her, that love she found in Yung Draw came with a union in the studio as well. Yung Draw and NTG are two indie rappers making their mark in the music industry, venturing through the industry together as one of Philly’s prominent dating rap duos. We wanted to know what this type of relationship was like, so we went to the source. Check out what they had to say…

The photo depicted shows NTG and Yung Draw on the back of one of NTG’s mixtapes. From the picture and the track list, the chemistry in and out of the studio is evident.

Page 42: MacTunes Magazine, February 2012

NTG, describe your musical style.I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one. I don't profess to one genre, style or flow. I love to be creative, innovate and original. My music, just like myself, is ever changing and evolving, but I can tell you this: everything I do, I always put my heart and soul into it.

Yung Draw, what or who has influenced your musical style?First and foremost, Tupac has been a major inspiration as far as a rapper and entertainer. Artist such as Ice Cube, Nas, UGK and Lil Wayne have also influenced me.!

How did the music journey begin for the two of you? We’ve both always had a passion for music since childhood be it R&B, Hip Hop, Rock or any style of music. As time progressed, we met each other and our passion for music was shared. So much so that we decided we both have something to say and a message to share with the world that is unique, fresh and needs to be heard. Through music, change can happen and we try to use our music to inspire. Not every song moves mountains, but they all have meaning.

Were the two of you dating already when you both began doing music?Yes we started!aggressively!pursuing our music as a couple. Both of us have had music ventures in the past that I

believe led us to where we are today, and together our force is dynamic.

As indie artists, we here at MacTunes understand the struggle. What has the experience been like going through this struggle together? This has been an excellent learning experience. This journey has humbled us to the core. We are very grounded people and this quest has shown us the ins and outs of the entertainment industry. The do's and don'ts, if you will, of the game itself. I chose the word “game” because there is a strategic element to this whole process. It's not all talent and drive; frankly, most of it isn't talent and drive. It's more so about who you know and what you are willing to do that determines your success. We as a team, Draw and I, are trying to begin a new movement where it's more about talent and less about theatrics and politics. To us, the essentials of a true entertainer are talent, drive,!relate-ability!and hustle.

Are there times when one or both of you ever think about giving up on your own music to fully support the other? No, we are a team and we push and drive each other toward excellence. Nothing feels better than looking on stage and seeing my partner in life and in music right there next to me to share in the journey together. We are a unit and the!chemistry!we have can't be denied nor broken.

Page 43: MacTunes Magazine, February 2012

Have there been times that one or both of you have ever had to battle insecurity when it comes to the opposite sex? We all know how it goes with the “groupie love.” Has that been difficult to combat? Not for us, because we love and respect each other and we are not seeking out that kind of attention. Some artists get into the game wanting sexual!attention!and the "groupie love," but not us. We want to make great music,!that's!all. If we want physical love, we have each other. Neither requires the validation of a groupie male or female; no jealousy or insecurities. We are very secure in our relationship and our purpose for what we're doing.

How do you keep the love alive when both of you are constantly grinding? We take time away from the music to share with each other, sort of like "Date Nights". There's a time to work and a time to play; there's so much that you have to do in this industry to be successful but you have to make time to enjoy each other. We have fun together. We're like two kids in love enjoying life, love and chasing this dream.!

Is it ever awkward working together, such as in the studio or on set of a music video?

No, it's a comfort having someone with you that you know is truly in your corner. We are each other’s biggest cheerleaders and we give!each other!the blunt truth. If something isn't right, we tell each other. This honesty and connection keeps us going strong, and I believe it will sustain us through the challenges of fame.!

Are we going to see an NTG & Yung Draw wedding collabo? (lol)Yes, we do see a wedding in the near future. Stay tuned lol

What do you two have in the works right now musically? Any new projects coming?Yes, Draw is working on releasing his first mixtape, which will be released sometime this year. Born and raised in Dallas, TX, I am a recording artist. Singing has been my thing, my purpose for being put here on Earth since I was about five years old, and I am running as soon as I hit the ground. Some of you may know what that means. It has been a tiresome road but nonetheless rewarding. Singing is the air that I breathe and I will shed blood, sweat and tears to get where it is that I want to be. I’ve only been pursuing my craft for about two years now so I am still soaking it all up. I’m definitely learning a lot but I’m enjoying every heartache, pain and laughter. I’m in it to win it and with God on my side, there’s no stopping me. I will be an R&B Soul singer before God calls me home, so I guess it’s on!!

When we think of entertainers, we typically think

about the singers, rappers, dancers and actors that we see on stage. But what about the beloved DJ? How

many artists would be lost without their DJ on stage

spinning for them? How many of us would walk right out of a party playing lame music or, even worse, no

music at all? The DJ is a key component to the shows, parties and other forms of entertainment that we love.

The DJ is so important that, many times, we hear

songs all about them and how they saved our lives or made us fall in love. But what about the love life of

the DJ? Does anyone take the time to realize that these spin-masters may have a spouse and children at

home? When the DJ shows up to your event, there

may be people at home anxiously awaiting their

return. Just like us, the DJ has a life outside of

entertainment.

So what’s it like to be married to a popular DJ? We

wanted to know, so we sought out the wife of DJ G-Slimm, popular nightclub DJ in Columbia, South

Carolina. Mrs. Michelle Garrett shares her story with us.

What is your husband's DJ name? What do

you call him?!!

My!husband!goes by DJ G-Slimm. Depending on the

conversation, I call him Mr. Gee, Brad, or Puddin' Pop (he's going to kill me for giving that one

away...LOL)!

How long have you two been married?!

We've been married since August 14, 2006; so almost 5!and a half years.!

When you two started dating, was he already a DJ?!!

He was. !He's been deejaying professionally almost half his life.

What is the extent of his DJ career? How often

is he gone?

MARRY ME, Mr. DJ!

Page 49: MacTunes Magazine, February 2012

The Life of The Wife of The DJ

Pretty much every weekend he's booked.! He's the

regular Friday night DJ at one of the local clubs here in Columbia and he, often, goes in on Saturdays

to!assist.! He's, also, a back-up DJ on Thursday nights

and is called in usually 1-2 times a month if not more.! !He does private parties, banquets, weddings, reunions,

galas, etc... every so often he'll have something booked on Saturday afternoons/evenings.! He's about to start

doing his online show again on Thursday evenings

where he deejays live for about 4 hours.! So he's got a very busy schedule when you factor in his "regular" 9-5

and family responsibilities. How hard was it to accept that he would be

gone as regularly as he is? Have you ever asked

him to stop?!!

We're former military so I was initiated early on!in our

relationship with his multiple deployments.! I've gotten

so used to him being inaccessible Thursday - Saturday night that at times it can get irritating when he IS

home because it throws off our routine.! I haven't asked him to stop.! This is something that he's been

doing forever.! It's truly a part of who he is as a person

and that was part of the total package when I agreed to be Mrs. Gee.! I'll be honest, there are times when I

get frustrated because of schedule conflicts and overall busy schedules, but he's great at putting everything else

to the side when he sees me

getting to that point.

How do your children

feel about him being a DJ?!

They love it.! We have our

times when we get silly and have our own Garrett-

family jam sessions.! My!3 year old has been

sneaking!on his turntables since he was old enough to

start walking.!!We've got videos of him!scratching that are absolutely adorable!

How do you all make time for each other with

having busy schedules? How do you keep the love connection alive?

Sunday evenings are sacred for family time.! Once a

month, we try to go out and just have us time.! Usually, one or the other will call and ask for a lunch date.!

With 3 kids in the house (and one of them being under

6 months old), it is very difficult to get everyone out for dinner or to have date night, but our lunches are 'our

time" to just be us - not Mommy and Daddy, but Brad and Michelle.! Hands down, my husband is one of my

best friends.! We laugh and joke around a lot with one

another.! If something is bothering me, he's usually the first person I go to for advice or just to vent.! We're

both committed to our marriage.! Before we got married we decided this was definitely going to be a 'til

death do us part union and that helps put things into

perspective.! We've had our ups and downs, but at the end of the day we're still Mr. and Mrs. Gee.

What advice would you give to a woman that is in love with an entertainer but is unsure if she

can handle the lifestyle of one?

Page 50: MacTunes Magazine, February 2012

Run as fast as you can...LOL Seriously, you have to

realize that!this is their passion.! My husband lives and breathes his music.! It's been a part of him all his life.!

It's like that for most entertainers in the music industry.!

Asking them to slow down or to stop is like asking them to cut off their right arm.! You have to have self-

confidence and trust in your relationship to deal with him being gone most weekends or at parties.!Like any

craft, they have to continuously perfect it.! So many

evenings my husband is in his "man cave"

mixing or researching new music.! That's his time and I respect that.! I have my own

interests that keep me occupied.! If a woman

needs a partner that is constantly around for companionship and doesn't have interests

outside of the relationship, then dating an entertainer probably is not in her best interest.

What is one thing you believe

entertainers should do to keep their mate happy at home regardless of their

hectic schedule?!

Understand the sacrifices that we make!so you can pursue your passion and be willing to

compromise!when necessary.! The worst thing anyone can do in a relationship is take their

partner for granted and not appreciate what

they bring to the table.!!Most wives are!at home!balancing their careers, kids,

friends,!extended families, extracurricular activities, etc.! A simple thank you and a hug

and kiss go a long way.!!

How can people get in touch with your husband for his DJ services?

GGrowing up in the east Atlanta

neighborhood of Ellenwood, southern rapper Jock “MIG” Migraine didn’t have a lot, but always had two things he could depend on: family and music. The sounds of classic R&B and old school hip-hop gave this former member of Crime Mob an early appreciation and understanding of music and inspired him to become an entertainer himself. After penning his first rhyme at the age of 15, writing came easily for MIG and it was at

that point he learned to write and create songs that come from the heart and appeal to fans on a personal level. While continuing to write his own verses and develop as a performer, he went on to sell hundreds of thousands of records and gain notoriety as a member of one of the hottest groups to come out of Atlanta. As a solo artist, fans will come to know this rapper, songwriter, and producer as one who personally touches them through his music. Multiple genres

are fused together to create a sound that radiates with any lover of today’s music. As he moves, they will too. The streets of Atlanta and his personal struggles and highlights in the music industry will come to life and become all too familiar to those who journey with him. With his first single as a solo artist, “What It Do”, MIG makes his introduction as hip-hop’s newest torchbearer. His advice...expect the unexpected.

This one takes the catch phrase “I’m gonna do me” to new heights. What rapper do you know that enjoys a warm glass of Merlot while reading Robert Greene, Shakespeare, and Kahlil Gibran in his spare time? None. That’s why stamping the term “rapper” when discussing this true artist is almost offensive. Talk about originality. Original in both music and lifestyle, Marc Elliott is completely raising the bar. He prides himself in being blunt and honest in life as well as music. His expressed opinions about life aren’t necessarily comfortable for everyone; but in being fearless and confident in his delivery, he is doing his part in helping our culture cultivate. I had the opportunity to talk with Marc Elliott about life, love, music and all things in between. What I found was a very cultured, well-spoken, respectable artist whose talent is breathtaking and extremely engaging.

MARC ELLIOTT

Page 54: MacTunes Magazine, February 2012

Detroit’s own Marc Elliott grew up in a single parent home filled with the rhythmic sounds of The Temptations, Otis Redding and Al Green. Those sounds shaped his life forever, embedding a love for melodies, word play and harmonization. Throughout middle school, Marc Elliott developed the craft of writing poetry out his love for words but hadn’t taken this talent seriously. He even participated in the battle scene but eventually fell more in love with crafting songs. It wasn’t until high school when Marc Elliott saw music as his life’s focal point. In the 10th grade, he moved to Atlanta, where he saw a vast different in the way others appreciated music. This was during a time when the music industry was being dominated by the Down South Crunk beats, when the lyrics didn’t seem as important. But for Marc Elliott, lyrics meant everything. Inspired by 90’s Hip Hop where the lyrics were the most important aspect of the song, it was hard for him to adjust to an era in which lyrical content didn’t matter. But, as any great artist would do, he recognized the trend that the people loved; therefore, he began to blend his amazing lyrics with the banging beats.

He now describes his sounds as Hip Hop with Pop and R&B elements. “The overall goal is to bring an acceptable sub-genre to the mainstream.” A smart goal, considering he can gain worldwide listeners while still maintaining what matters to him. His biggest influences are Jay-Z, Kanye West and the Notorious B.I.G. “Reasonable Doubt, Ready To Die and Life After Death revolutionized story telling word play on a worldwide

scale,” Marc Elliott commented. Another album that was monumental in his life was Kanye West’s brilliant College Dropout. For Marc Elliott, Kanye West made it cool to be you instead of portraying yourself as living a thug life that you’re really not. He said it best himself in saying, “It was a true testament to my generation showcasing that the hard appeal isn’t the only marketable persona in Hip Hop.” It made him realize that just because he came from the hood doesn’t mean he has to be a hood rapper. He was inspired to create music with a brighter and more positive tone.

This tone can easily be felt in Marc Elliot’s current project entitled WhAtDrEaMsMaYcOmE (WdMc). This is his first project as a solo artist after his successful start as one half of Radio Republik. His time with Radio Republik lead to opening up for national artists such as Sean Kingston, Twista and Far East Movement. The immense talent in his city that never gets the recognition they deserve inspired WdMc. It is attestation to the fact that artists do not have to follow industry standards, a point well taken by his song, “Do M.E.” on WdMc. This confidence anthem, as I call it, explained that he always has and forever will “do M.E.,” cleverly translating to being himself, Marc Elliott. He says that WdMc is for “the person trying to get that degree, the nine to fiver, the hustler, and the talented artist who’s vying for that much needed attention from a major label who may never come calling. It’s truth.” WdMc is about setting goals and staying on track to that destination, wherever that may be.

Considering this concept, I was curious to know what challenges Marc Elliott has faced while on his journey to success. He expressed that his biggest challenge has been that of building personal relationships. Music is a full time venture for him and he is completely sold out and dedicated to perfecting his craft. Being the perfectionist that he is, it leaves minimal time to devote to personal relationships. This can be a distressing situation for a significant other who does not understand, or want to fathom, the sacrifices that have to be made for an artist to acquire the level of success Marc Elliott is seeking. Between time sacrifices and battling stereotypes, it was difficult for him in the past to fulfill relationship obligations and be an artist. He is attempting to better balance this part of his life now, but he is still fully dedicated to his career.

With this being the conversation at hand and with “Love Day” just around the corner, I had to know the current status of Marc Elliott’s love life. Just how much progress has been made in balancing personal relationships? Is there a special lady in Marc Elliott’s life? After a few laughs, he gave me the answer I

wanted. “There is someone. This one is special.” In the same breath, he explained how understanding this lady is of his choice to reserve the

details of his relationship. I couldn’t be mad at that, it is very respectable of him for himself and her.

All of the “love talk” lead perfectly into the discussion of his next project, which I’m anxiously anticipating. His next project entitled Cruel Intentions: A Love Story sounds like it will be nothing less than sensational. “Fairy tales never show Cinderella flipping out on Prince Charming over that text message from Snow White,” Marc Elliott stated. His next project will dive into the complex and more complicated aspects of love and relationships. It tells the story of a guy who is not in the position to take care of the woman he loves and does what it takes to get into that position, but loses sight of that focus as success comes. His intentions become corrupt by the money and the priority of the woman he loves becomes nothing more than a nuisance and world of squabbling. This project, primarily produced by Markus “Dj Felon” Harris, represents love for what it really is or what it can be. Love can become “cruel” causing

people to behave in ways that borderline insanity. So Cruel Intentions: A Love Story dives into relationships in such an honest way that Shakespeare would be proud.

As with this project, Marc Elliott delights in being able to take his time with the creative process; this is one of the many luxuries of being an independent artist. When talking about the Indies Movement right now, Marc Elliott had this to say: “I love it! For years now, the industry has been hinting towards this shift, and many Indie-Labels/Artists have capitalized on the design. It’s bringing the underground to the mainstream. Music has become more of a democracy than anything else in the entertainment industry. At the end of the day, it’s the people’s choice. I live a lifestyle that latches on to the leader in us all; that’s why we coined the name #Trendsetter Republik. This is for the people who don’t follow fads but rather create our own, regardless of the scrutiny it brings from peers and those who say it can’t or shouldn’t be done. The creative underdog that lives in us all is

who Marc Elliott represents.” Marc Elliott intends to create a musical empire from the ground up. Similar to a Fortune 500 company, it did not start that way, it developed. He wants to follow that business model and build stock in his own company. If a major deal comes along that works and makes sense for helping the expansion of Marc Elliott’s brand, he wouldn’t be opposed to it.

Offstage, you can catch Marc Elliott enjoying a glass of wine, reading an incredible book, eating the best sushi in town, or brainstorming new concepts for his music. He is not the artist that requires the huge $6 million house. Instead, his only luxury requirements for a home are a library and a wine cellar. “I love Merlot… and I’m a big fan of self-help books.” He is also a big fan of writing. “I

love the mathematic of words,” Elliott stated. He takes a strong liking to the elements of writing such as alliterations and similes that make writing and rap so enjoyable. Since he is such a perfectionist, he only considers writing a hobby now since he is focused on music. But as his success flourishes, don’t be surprised if you see Marc Elliott writing columns for MacTunes Magazine or Forbes!

The very sexy, sophisticated and self-assured Marc Elliott is no joke in this industry. He has his mind made up that success is only a fingertip away, so this backpack rapping phenomenon is in no way stoppable. Keep watching him do him and making the majors step aside. Spoken Words

What is the definition of a word? Are words merely communication without emotion? The dictionary defines a word as a unit of speech. The words we speak have impact on our lives as well as other lives we choose to speak upon.

Words can cut through your heart like pieces of a broken glass. The words you speak help mold and define your inner spirit. We should carefully choose the words that we speak because the words we chose to speak have power. I don’t know about you, but I would prefer my words to mean something and to have a positive effect on the person I am speaking with as opposed to negativity. Once you speak words, you can never take them back. You may apologize for them, you also may prove them otherwise, but you can never get that instance back ever.

I would much rather be remembered for having a positive impact through

my words than a negative impact. Some years ago I was traveling home to visit my family in Michigan by way of airplane through Atlanta Hartsfield Airport. I came upon a very long line and had limited time to get to the concourse. This, of course, was before 911 and all the restrictions we have in place now. My children were younger and I had a car seat as well as luggage to check. When the attendant asked the question who was next, I stepped up with my children and luggage in tow. A lady from behind screamed at me about cutting the line. I gave her the cursing of a lifetime. It was in that instant the attendants opened another line and began to move us through.

Fast forward 5 years later, as I am about to board a plane for Ft Lauderdale, Florida at the same airline, I encounter a gentleman who hurriedly takes my bags and my information to print out the boarding

pass. He goes on to state that he was going to ensure I get waited on in a hurry and he made a remark about not having a repeat of 5 years ago. Low and behold, as I look up to meet his face, it is the attendant from 5 years ago! He remembered me by my behavior, which was not nice at all. As I made quick small talk, I walked through the airport heavy in my heart because of the person I was back then. I was the person who would revel in the fact of getting someone told even if I was wrong. It was the pivotal part of my life when I knew I had to change the way people perceived me, strangers or not. I did not want to be remembered in that way at all. Since that time, I am more conscious of the words I speak in public as well as the words I speak to my heart.

The Bible tells us that life and death is in the power of the tongue. Which will you speak?

When a Gospel artist comes along, we always hope that it is a person with a true and honest heart for God. No matter what the package looks like, the delivery should reflect that of God’s love. Joyce D Daniel is the mirror image of God’s heart. The Gospel singer/songwriter lives beyond the words she writes and sings. Her lifestyle is one that shows relationship with God rather than religion. We had the pleasure of interviewing Joyce Daniel about her love affair with God and music.

Joyce Davis Daniel

Listening to your songs, I couldn't decide if you were Gospel or Jazz because of the versatility of your lyrics. What genre do you see yourself in?

I consider myself a combination of the gospel and worship genre more than anything else. “Wedding Day” and “Forever” were written for my son's wedding and my first experience writing outside of the Christian genre. I love the sound of the saxophone, however, and will use it whenever possible.! That may give it a Jazz flavor sometimes.

How would you describe your sound?

My sound varies so much to me, I don't think there is one unique sound. A few songs definitely sound like “old school” gospel; yet others are hard to categorize. I've been teased that I have an “orchestral” sound and have to admit that I often hear “strings” when composing. “God Ain't Got No Grandchildren” sounded like country to me. I could hear scrub boards, banjos and harmonicas when writing it; whereas “Fifth Sparrow” reminded me of a folk song. It has no chorus and no bridge. It simply tells a story. In short, I just sing what I hear and look for someone who can play what I sing.

When did your musical journey begin?

I would say that my musical journey began at an early age singing church hymns for some of my grandmother's friends. That was a good thing because I usually got a piece of candy, a nickel or something. I grew up in church and no matter where I lived as a child or adult, I was always active in a church choir from the youth choir to the senior choir. I've also sang solos in church function but was never really comfortable in that setting. I loved the security of others standing with me when I sang. Songwriting has changed that aspect of my journey. Slowly but surely, I am beginning to feel secure as I sing because I'm learning to think only about who I'm singing to and it's not people.

Page 68: MacTunes Magazine, February 2012

Who are some of your musical influences?

Of all the female singers I've listened to, I think the one who has influenced me the most is Mahalia Jackson. Not only did she sing all the hymns that I knew and grew up with but they came across as her personal testimony. Whenever I listen to Mahalia Jackson sing anything, it feels like I'm witnessing something very intimate and personal. “How I Got Over” and “Amazing Grace” are a couple of favorites. I think the male vocalist who influences me the most is Donnie McClurkin because he's not afraid to be vulnerable. Most of the time, I can empathize with whatever is being shared. “Song from the Heart of God” and “Speak to My Heart” are just two out of many. Worship music is a new genre that I've become hooked on. I find myself really drawn to the music of Hillsong, Grace Williams and William McDowell; to name a few.! "Lost" by Grace Williams is phenomenal; "Wrap Me In Your Arms" by William McDowell and "Hosanna" by Hillsong just knock my socks off.

What do you hope to see come of your music career?

Right now, I want to record so my music can be heard. I believe it has some great messages that need to be shared. My prayer is that the love of God that I sing about will reach fertile hearts so lives can be changed. To me that goes beyond a sound or skill. My desire is for my music to reach the heart of the listener in such a way that they yield to His call.

Outside of music, what is life like for Miss Joyce Daniel?

I would say, “It is very busy”. I love family and friends so I spend a lot of time visiting, entertaining, or talking on the phone. Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner can be a 3-day marathon because I want to be sure I've cooked everybody's favorite. I love spoiling those I love so I'm always trying to find the perfect gift and so happy when I succeed. A special joy are my three “spiritual” grandchildren who are 5, 7 and 12. Their parents, along with a few others, became part of my extended family. Intercessory Prayer is also a big part of my life. I lead a prayer walking team every summer to pray on site at all the public schools in our community and participate in other prayer groups. I also enjoy making some deliveries from the food bank for some friends who can't get out as well as special visits to seniors I met a few years ago. I assist in my church's nursing home ministry that fellowships with residents once a month and takes a church service to them twice a year. For a few weeks of the school year, I substitute as a paraprofessional;

mostly with Kindergarten teachers. What can I say? When you love God, you love people!

I also love movies and TV. Everybody knew not to call when “24” was on and I will go see Denzel Washington play in anything.

What is it that inspires your songwriting?

The biggest inspiration for my songwriting is God. He shows up in all kinds of situations. Many times, I have been reading a scripture and a line jumps out at me. “Let All that I Am Praise You” jumped right out of Psalm 103. Almost before I knew it, I was singing. The same thing happened with “Sweet Little Baby Boy”. I was reading the second chapter of Luke. The minute I got to the part where Anna the prophetess walked into the temple, she began to sing. I had no idea that was going to happen. It has become one of my favorite Christmas songs. I was singing it one night and a musician said, “That's nice. I don't think I've heard that one before.” What a compliment that was. I probably blushed.

One night I started thinking about Jehoshaphat in the bible who fasted, prayed and praised God when nations were coming against Israel and God won the battle without them doing anything else. Before I knew it, I was on the computer looking up other situations where battles were won by God alone. That's how the song “My God is Able” was born. I don't think I got to bed until about 3:30 a.m. that night. Twice, I have been riding in my car when the beauty of the day overwhelmed me. The chorus to “Purpose in Thee” began on a 150-mile drive. By the time I got to my destination, it was set. “I Bow in Love” began one gorgeous Monday morning on my way to the doctor's office. The chorus and the first verse were written by the time I got there. I just had to borrow some paper. Now, when I don't have paper, I'll call my house and sing to my answering machine. I've been asked to write a song for a specific occasion three times. “Purpose in Thee” was for a women's conference; “Precious Jewel” was for a teen lock-in; and the songs for my son's wedding.

What can we expect to hear next from you?

You can expect to hear “My Heart Belongs to You”, “He Sings Over Me”, “Fifth Sparrow” and several other recordings on the upcoming CD, “Love Songs”.

If others want to hear more of you, how can they contact you?
