This class provides a helicopter tour of the main current issues in macroeconomics. (Roughly) one topic willbe covered every week. The Monday session will be dedicated to papers more methodological in nature, that Iwill present, whereas Tuesdays will serve for applications and papers more empirical in nature, taken from thelist below. This will be presented by students (possibly in groups of two, or up to three if need be). There willbe need for at least ten groups. The presentation, and a subsequent critical analysis of the paper (in writing)count for 40% of the final grade.

Most, but not all, the covered material pertains to current issues in the field. Whatever is more dated tends tobe useful in introducing a method, or motivating an issue. Chances are time will be too short to cover all thetopics, but we might be able to if we try hard.

There is no real textbook in macroeconomics. Depending on the topic, I will make use of different books.Most prominent are:Advanced Macroeconomics by David RomerFoundations of International Economics, by Maurice Obstfeld and Kenneth RogoffThe Handbook of Macroeconomics by John Taylor and Michael WoodfordLectures in Macroeconomics by Olivier Blanchard and Stanley Fischer.

Evaluation

Grading is based on a final exam (60%) and a report on the paper presented in class (40%). Problem sets willbe handed out periodically, but not graded.
