Sunday, April 20, 2014 Resurrection of Our Lord Easter Day Setting One – Sunrise & 10:30 (ELW) INTRODUCTION

On this day the Lord has acted! On the first day of the week God began creation, transforming darkness

into light. On this, the "eighth day" of the week, Jesus Christ was raised from the dead. We celebrate this

new creation in the waters of baptism and in the feast of victory. With great joy we celebrate this day of

days, even as we begin the great fifty days of Easter. Filled with hope, we go forth to share the news that

Christ is risen! ADAM MILLER-STUBBENDICK Text: John 20:1-18 HYMN OF THE DAY 389 Christ Is Alive! We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

the only Son of God,

eternally begotten of the Father,

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made,

of one Being with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation

he came down from heaven,

was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary

and became truly human.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again

in accordance with the scriptures;

he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead,

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION Pastor Suzanne Shoffner (1 Timothy 2:1,2)

P The peace of Christ be with you always.

C And also with you.

similar words.

WORDS OF INSTITUTION (1 Corinthians 11:23-26) P In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. THE LORD'S PRAYER (Matthew 6:9-13) C Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. COMMUNION (John 6:48-50; Acts 2:42) P Taste and see that the Lord is good. The assembly may be seated. The bread may be broken for the communion. When giving the bread and cup, the communion ministers say A The body of Christ, given for you. The blood of Christ, shed for you. And each person may respond Amen. LAMB OF GOD (Sing Twice) (John 1:29)

Greetings from Music Ministry at Macedonia! As we are coming to the close of the school year,

just wanted to give a heads up as to our remaining schedule.

As has always been the case, when the Cherubs, Youth Choir and/or Youth Bells are playing for

a service, we will meet for a rehearsal at 10:00AM. We are so thankful for the positive support

from our Sunday School teachers who have recognized the importance of these rehearsals prior

to the service. We also want to thank all the parents of the children and youth who participate in

these music groups. Please note the June 15/22/29 dates for Family Choir. Any and all are wel-

come to come a half-hour before the service to do a quick run-through of the anthem for that

day. Blessings!—Stephen

19

Come, let me walk alongside you!

Luke 24:13–35 tells of two travelers to Emmaus who are joined by a stranger, the resurrected Jesus. He accompanied them and listened to their concerns and conversation. Finally, Cleopas and his friend ask the stranger to stay with them as evening was near. When Jesus broke the bread, they recog-nized him, as he had broken bread with them so many times before. This was the risen Lord. They were warmed and comforted by his very presence.

The promise of Scripture is that the Holy Spirit will come and “walk alongside” us. Stephen Ministers have been trained to be a comforting presence to others by walking alongside them, especially during the most difficult moments of their lives. Stephen Ministers stand ready with words of hope: “Come, let me walk alongside you!” To learn more about how a Stephen Minister might be that “comforting presence” to you or someone you know in the congregation, speak with one of our Stephen Ministry Leaders.

Our Stephen Leaders and Ministers are ready to listen and care for you. Stephen Leaders
