The Macedon Ranges has a rich cultural heritage, beginning with the traditional owners of this region, the Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung and Wurundjeri people. Our region is home to a vibrant creative community, with a broad section of arts and cultural practitioners calling the shire homefrom musicians and filmmakers, to painters, sculptors, actors, performers and writerseach contribute in enriching our culture and community by offering us experiences that transcend the ordinary. Macedon Ranges Shire Council is dedicated to fostering an innovative and creative community, and to providing opportunities for everyone to participate in the cultural life of our region. This includes creating community partnerships to deliver cultural activities; supporting arts projects and heritage events; professional development opportunities for local artists and students; building upgrades for cultural facilities; and an annual performing arts season, which in 2016, is set to offer you a window into the world without the hefty plane fare. Featuring in this years program, indigenous culture is celebrated, and the shires Sister-City relationship with Tokai in Japan sees the finest kimonos on show.

In the performing arts, outstanding artistes in music, theatre, circus, dance and family shows present work designed to delight, surprise and inspire audiences of locals and visitors alike. The visual arts sees five Museum exhibitions on show, with opportunities to immerse yourself in workshops, floor talks and activities for all.With such a full program, dont leave booking tickets to the last minute! TranslucenceWhere will the light take you? Translucence juxtaposes late 19th20th century decorative glass items with contemporary glass works by Melbourne artist Ruth Allen.

Adornment is a hallmark of the ostentatious Victorian era. Highly ornate glass items decorated homes of the Nouveau riche, showcasing their wealth through lavish furnishings. Many items that would now be considered art glass were initially intended for use around the home and although these items retain their original purpose, it is only now that we are able to fully appreciate their natural beauty.

In stark contrast to traditional glass manufacturers, modern glass studios use a great variety of techniques in creating glass artworks; including cold working, glass casting and glass blowing, all of which create unique sculptural forms that play with light and textures.

Come and see these exquisite examples of art glass on display and catch Ruth Allen demonstrate her skills working with glass during the Lost Trades Fair (12 and 13 March).

8Culture: Bunka Immerse yourself in Japanese culture Culture: Bunka celebrates Japans unique culture. An exhibition of colourful Kimonos, traditional and contemporary ceramics and kitsch items from Japanese pop-culture.

Culture: Bunka coincides with other Cultural Diversity Week 2016 events celebrating our shires Sister City relationship with Tokai City.

Japan has a fascinating and multifaceted culture; on the one hand it is steeped in the deepest of traditions dating back thousands of years, yet on the other it is a society in a continual state of flux, with continually shifting fads, fashions and technological development. Japanese popular culture not only reflects the attitudes and concerns of the present, but provides a link to the past. Japanese cinema, cuisine, anime, manga and visual arts all developed from older artistic and literary traditions, and many of their themes and styles of presentation can be traced to traditional art forms.

Sharing stories about migrant experiences Six short films made by filmmakers from culturally diverse backgrounds, exploring identity as well as cultural, religious and generational themes.

Colourfest Films celebrate migrant experiences, showcasing the success, challenges and nuances of migrant communities in Australia and the world. This years films include official selections from the 2015 British Documentary Film Festival, the 17th Annual Sidewalk Film Festival in Birmingham Alabama, Action on Film, Awareness Festival and Chicago South Asian Film Festival.

This is a unique opportunity to experience beautifully crafted, thought provoking and award-winning films that take you on a migrants journey from discrimination and alienation leading ultimately to belonging.

Coast to CoasterCome on a pub crawl with us Remember the 70s? Think Skyhooks, the Sunbury Music Festival, Sandman andthe beer coaster.

Revisit an Aussie pub icon in this playful exhibition featuring pub coasters from all over Australia.

Traditionally associated with sporting events like the Americas Cup, cricket, football and motor racing, the iconic beer coaster was the business card of the 70s. How things have changed.

Part of this exhibition involves getting local business to dig into the back of their drawers and find the beer coasters that they had printed in the 70s and 80s.

Take a trip across the country, and delve into Australias history as we celebrate this original form of advertising currency.

The Spooky Mens Chorale

The Spookies are bigger, blacker, hairier and better than ever before. The Spooky Men's Chorale is a vast, rumbling, steam-powered and black clad behemoth, capable of rendering audiences moist eyed with mute appreciation or haplessly gurgling with merriment.

Based on the quest for the perfect subwoofer-rattling boofchord, the Spookies seek to commentate on the absurdity and grandeur of the modern male armed only with their voices, a sly collection of hats and facial hair, and a twinkle in the eye.

Boy Out of the Country emerged out of the Melbourne Theatre Company Affiliate Writers Scheme and has been awarded the R. E. Ross Trust Script Development Award. This play has been selected by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Board for study in playscript and performance as part of the VCE Playlist 2016.

Celebrate a Christmas in July Morning Music Make merry with the award-winning Choir of Hard Knocks, as they bring their Hope and Inspiration tour to Kyneton under the direction of their founding conductor, Jonathon Welch AM. The choir began in Melbourne specifically for people experiencing homelessness and disadvantage. It went on to become the subject of an ABC documentary, record two CDs and win an ARIA award.The tour celebrates the choirs inspiring journey over the past decade, including many of the songs performed on the ABCTV smash hit series Choir of Hard Knocks, along with new, original material. Trick or Treatment explores the stories behind this era of scammers and theorists through objects from both the Kyneton and University of Melbourne Medical Museum collections.

In an age of limited information, luminaries such as George Augustus Scott were able to make remarkable claims for their inventions. Can an electric hairbrush cure everything from baldness to headaches? Come see for yourself and learn more of these extraordinary claims!

Political comedy by Australias National TreasureRod Quantock has been a stand-up and, more recently, a sit-down comedian for almost 50 years. His shows are always relevant to the moment and change with the headlines of the day. But what Rod has noticed is that the headlines of today are the same as the headlines of yesterday. To prove it, he is revisiting one of his most successful shows, Boredom Protection Policy.

In this incarnation, Rod reflects on the headlines of fourteen years ago and compares them to today. Quantocks Boredom Protection Policy debuted in 2002 at Trades Hall Melbourne to critical and popular acclaim. Boredom Protection Policy is a solo show about contemporary politics and society presented by Australias longest serving comedian.

A fun filled adventure for the whole family Two boys have to deal with consequences! At the local fair, Stephen is baited by his hero Floggitt into stealing. He pinches the whirling, twirling illuminating Gizmo that sends Stephen on an amazing adventure of self-discovery.

The whirling, twirling illuminating Gizmo keeps putting Stephen in extra-ordinary situations! This fun theatrical adventure is adapted by Verity Laughton based on the well-known novel by Australian icon Paul Jennings.

This energy-packed performance includes gadgets, physical storytelling and amazing visual effects. The show is suitable for family and school audiences and is aimed at children 6 and over.

How music has changed your lifeRecorded music has been available in many different forms throughout the ages; from the wax cylinder, to vinyl record, the cassette tape, the iPod and now the digital download. Irrespective of how it is delivered, music still speaks a universal language.

Changing Tracks reveals the ways we listen to music and takes you through the eras when vinyl was king, mix tapes were for road trips and iPods were cool. Many generations wont know what its like to put a dollar in a jukebox, hear the crackle of vinyl on a record player or press play on a cassette tape.

Changing Tracks also reflects on the stories associated with musicyour favourite mix tape for road trips, the song that was playing when you met your partner or the tune that changed your life.

This interactive, playful exhibition is presented in collaboration with local Matt Sigley from Long Story Short Second Hand Books and Music.

Youth tickets are available to those aged between 16 and 25. ID must be presented at the time of booking. Childrens tickets apply to those aged between 2 and 15. Children under 2 years do not require a ticket providing they sit on an adults knee.

Foyer bar The Town Hall Foyer Bar operates under a limited Liquor License. The bar sells drinks and refreshments from regional producers before and after most evening shows and during interval. BYO alcohol is not permitted.

ParkingParking at the Kyneton Town Hall is free, with all day parking available at the rear of the venue. More on-street parking is available in Hutton Street. Bus parking can be reserved through our Box Office prior to the show.

Kyneton Mechanics Institute The Kyneton Mechanics Institute is a community space suited to exhibitions, theatre, business and private functions and features heritage dcor.
