"Mistaway" Coolant Mist Collector Description
The Mistaway unit easily installs directly on an enclosed machine tool and creates a negative pressure
inside the enclosure. This negative air pressure prevents air contaminates from escaping the enclosure,
and this helps to prevent the breathing of coolant mist as you open the doors of your machine.
During the machining process, air is removed from the machine enclosure and filtered to remove coolant mist,
smoke and contaminates. As machine tool doors are opened, clean air is drawn into the machine enclosure
and this helps protect operators from problems associated with coolant mist exposure and inhalation.
1st stage Metal Baffle Filters separates larger coolant droplets from the the air as it passes through.
As mist laden air is filtered, droplets form on the filter surface and freely drips off back to
the machine through the 12" x 16" opening.
2nd Stage Metal Mesh Filter separate any smaller coolant mist particles that may have passed through
the 1st stage filters.
3rd Stage Filter is a polyester mesh filter to remove the very finest mist and particles prior to the main filter.
4th Stage Filter provides for high efficiency filtration of the air, filtering particles as small as .3 micron particle size.
Air is filtered to ASHRAE 52.2 Test Standard Merv 14.
Carbon Filter uses Activated Carbon to remove Gaseous Pollutants.
The Activated Carbon absorbs vapors from the air, and are designed to "kill" any odors that are created
from the machining process.
Bolt on After Filter assembly is optional and could be added at any time.
After Filter is recommended in applications where smoke is created in the machining process.

Operating Instructions
1) Unit will power on when current is applied to the 120V plug.
SEE WARNINGS PG 14.
2) Filter Status Gauge:
This gauge reads the filter restriction of the main filters (and After filter, if installed).
During Normal operation the Gauge reads in the blue "New" Range.
When the Gage reads in the yellow "Dirty" range, the air flow is decreased to 1/2 of its rated capacity.
At this point the filters should be serviced as necessary.
3) Routine maintenance on the Mistaway Collector should be performed at intervals of
6 months to one year depending on application and use, or if status gauge
indicates maintenance is necessary.
The only maintenance required is inspection, and cleaning or replacing of the filters as needed.
4) The filters (from bottom up) are:
First filter group, #1200-01, (2) pcs:
20" x 25" x 1" metal baffle filters and can be rinsed with water or applicable cleaner.
Baffle filters are installed with drain holes facing down.
Second filter, #1200-02:
20" x 25" x 2" metal mesh mist filter and can be rinsed with water or applicable cleaner.
Mist Filter is also installed with drain holes facing down.
Third filter, #1200-03:
20" x 25" x 1" polyester media filter and could be cleaned or replaced as needed.
Forth filter (Main Filter), #1200-04:
20" x 25" x 4" Merv 14 media filter and should replaced at 6 month to a year intervals or as needed.
Carbon Filter: #1200-05:
20" x 25" x 1" carbon media filter pad in metal frame.
Carbon Pad filter life is typically 6 months to a year and should be replaced as needed.

To Open Door:
Lift up on flange of door
and swing down to
access filters.
1) Determine best location for the Mistaway unit. Take into account easy
accessibility to the front of the Mistaway unit and access to the filters.
The Mistaway unit does not need to be close to the machining area to be effective.
The Mistaway works by creating a negative pressure in the enclosure.
This negative pressure helps prevent coolant mist from traveling outside the enclosure
while machining.
As the machine doors are opened, fresh air enters the enclosure and therefore keeps
coolant mist away from the operator and from traveling outside the machine enclosure.
2) Set the Mistaway unit on the machine (with filters removed). Scribe or draw to mark
the 12" x 16" opening and (12) holes from bottom of Mistaway unit to machine enclosure.
3) Saw the 12" x 16" opening and drill (12) 5/16" dia holes on the machine enclosure
on location of the layout marks (as per step 2).
NOTE: For Max CFM and Drainage, Cut the full 12" x 16" Opening.
This opening is the Mistaway intake and must also allow coolant to drain back to the machine.
If the mist collector is installed on a smaller opening the restriction of the opening could
prevent drainage, and this will result in shortened filter life and oil buildup in the mist collector.

4) Place the Mistaway unit on top of machine (with filters removed) to access screw holes.
Use supplied Gasket between the Mist Away and the machine enclosure.
If all (12) screws cannot be used, or the surface of the machine enclosure is not sufficiently
flat for the gasket to seal, silicone sealant could be applied to seal off coolant from leaking
from this location.
5) Insert (12) 1/4-20 screws with washers through the (12) holes on base of unit (supplied).
6) From inside machine enclosure, install (12) 1/4-20 nuts and washers (supplied).
Tighten screws just enough to partially compress the gasket, do not overtighted screws.
7) Unit will power on when current is applied to the 120V plug.
Mist Collector should plug unit into a 120V properly grounded outlet.
Mist Collector could be run continually on, or could be controlled by the
Mist Manager control option, cycling it on/off as needed (see page 12).
Warning! Improper Grounding can result in the risk of Electric Shock!
Check with a qualified electrician if in doubt that the outlet is properly grounded.
Never remove or cutoff grounding prong from the plug.

MOUNTING AND INTAKE OPTIONS
General guidelines is to change the air inside the machine enclosure approximately
3 to 5 times per minute. Changing the air more often may result in shortened filter life, and
changing the air less often may result in lower effectiveness.
To size the mist collector:
Approximately measure the internal dimensions of the machine enclosure and calculate
the internal volume.
For example:
Internal dimensions = 4ft x 5ft x 12ft = Volume of 240 cubic feet
The MA1200 is 1200 CFM so: 1200 CFM / 240 = 5
The MA1200 would be a good fit, and would change the air 5 times per minute in this application.
The quality of the machine enclosure may also be taken into consideration.
For example: If the machine enclosure has many openings, there may be benifits to
changing the air more often than 5 times per minute, or if the enclosure is well sealed
the air could be changed less often. The goal is to prevent the escape of coolant mist
as the door of the machine is opened.
The Mistaway Collector could be used with an optional speed control unit to reduce
the fan speed for smaller enclosure sizes.
Mist Collector Sizing
Page 10
The Mistaway Mist Collector uses standard type panel filters that could be substituted
for various filter types depending on the contaminants to be removed. The filters could
be tailored to different applications.
For example: A High Capacity Activated Carbon Filter (#1200-05HC) can be substituted
for the supplied standard carbon filter for added absorption of gaseous polutants.
Please consult a Mistaway application specialist for special application requests.
Special Filtering Applications
Troubleshooting
1) Gauge reads "Dirty" (Yellow or Red Area):
-If no After Filter is installed Main Filter is probably dirty, replace Main Filter.
-If After filter is installed - Open door of Mistaway, turn on fan and check reading:
If gauge still reads in Dirty area, After filter should be replaced.
If gauge is in blue area, Main Filter is probably dirty, replace Main filter.
Note: When replacing Main Filter also check and clean filters prior to Main Filter.
2) Gauge shows low reading on high fan speed (below "New" on gauge), or fan has become loud:
Fan(s) may not be running properly.
-Check power input to 120V plug
-Remove top cover of Mistaway and check free rotation of fan,
fan impeller may be obstructed, if fan bearing failure found replace fan.
-Remove top cover of junction box and check connections and capacitor.
If fan capacitor checks good and no other problems found replace fan.
3) Mist or smoke is coming out top of Mistaway.
Intake is restricted and mist collector cannot drain.
-If direct mounted, intake opening on machine enclosure should be cut to 12" x 18"
or Plenum should be used.
Smoke or atomized mist (below 1 micron) is being produced in the machining process.
-After filter should be used.
Main Filter may have a hole or is damaged.
-Check filter condition and replace as needed.
Main Filter is not clamped in place.
-Check Main filter clamping bars, push down bars and tighten knobs.
