The Institutional Trader Programme. This bespoke programme is designed to

provide aspirational and operating traders alike with the ability to master the skills needed

to be an effective and successful trader across a range of investing disciplines.

Partly taking place at London Stock Exchange , this programme is a unique opportunity for

anyone interested in mastering the craft of trading in a variety of disciplines, exchanges and

asset classes. London Stock Exchange dates back to 1571, and today is a vibrant, modern

exchange, leading the world in innovation, best practices, unassailable governance and

both volume and variety of trades.

The opportunity presented through this programme is to jump-start, or expand your

brokering career with an accelerated learning programme of the highest value, led by

world-class experts in a range of active investing areas. If you are looking to master the art

of trading, this is a must-attend programme. Note that classes are limited to 30 participants

from around the world, and attendance is therefore subject to an application and approval

process.

What is it?––––––––––––––The Institutional Trader Programme consists of two modules which run over three months, commencing with a 10-day intensive face-to-face learning opportunity (Module One) at the London Stock Exchange Group Academy at the home of London Stock Exchange in Paternoster Square, London, followed by a three-month e-learning programme (Module Two), enabling you to develop your proficiency in the key trading principles learned.

Module One: 10-day education at London Stock Exchange––––––––––––––You will stay at a five star hotel in the heart of the influential City of London financial district for 12 days during which you will experience an intense and detailed learning programme led by experienced London Stock Exchange Academy trainers.

Week One––––––––––––––The fundamentals of institutional trading and key concepts explained:

• Foreign exchange market• Equities/stocks/bonds• Derivatives/commodity exchanges• Investment funds• Financial services regulation• Financial crime• Insider trading and market abuse• Portfolio management• The role of the fund manager• Portfolio performance measurement

Week Two––––––––––––––Asset classes, currency trading, precious metals and oil, global stocks and indices:

• The mechanics of Trading and Investing• Getting Intimate with the Markets• The Big Financial Picture• Understanding and interpreting news,

data and information• Fundamental Data• Portfolio Management • Technical Analysis• Evaluating Securities Exercise• Live Trading Simulation

Participants will be assessed at the end of each day throughout the ten day programme to ensure that learning objectives have been met. At the end of the programme, participants will receive an accredited* Institutional Trading Certificate.

* institutional trader program course is accredited with 40 CPD points, in addition a CISI accreditation will be awarded in certi�cation form, should the candidate pass the CISI examination after week one.

Week 1 - Sectional Breakdown––––––––––––––

Section 1: The Financial Services Industry Introduction to the financial services industry and examines the role of the industry and the main participants that are seen in financial centres around the globe.

Section 2: The Economic Environment An appreciation of some key aspects of macroeconomics is essential to an understanding of the environment in which investment services are delivered. This Section looks at some key measures of economic data and the role of central banks in management of the economy.

Section 3: Financial Assets and Markets This Section provides an overview of the main types of assets and then looks insome detail at the range of financial markets that exist, including the money markets, property and foreign exchange.

Section 4: Equities We now examine some of the main asset classes in detail, starting with equities. We begin with the features, benefits and risks of owning shares or stocks, looks at corporate actions and some of the main world stock markets and indices, and outlines the methods by which shares are traded and settled.

Section 5: Bonds A review of bonds follows which includes looking at the key characteristics and types of government and corporate bonds and the risks and returns associated with them.

Section 6: Derivatives A brief review of derivatives to provide an understanding of the key features of futures, options and swaps and the terminology associated with them.

Section 7: Investment Funds A study of the major area of investment funds or mutual funds/ collective investment schemes. The Section looks at open-ended and closed-ended funds, exchange-traded funds, hedge funds and private equity.

Section 8: Regulation and Ethics An understanding of regulation is essential in today’s investment industry. This Section provides an overview of international regulation and looks at specific areas such as money laundering and insider trading as well as a section on professional integrity and ethics.

Section 9: Other Financial Products Having reviewed the essential regulation covering provision of financial services, we conclude with a review of the other types of financial products, including pensions, loans, mortgages and protection products includinglife assurance.

Section: 17: Technical AnalysisThe history and effectiveness of Technical Analysis. Market timing techniques. What works? How to integrate it into your process. Advanced techniques. Behavioural Finance and Technical Analysis.

Section 18: Evaluating Securities ExerciseEvaluating and producing a team research report on a security. Designing and analysing a portfolio. Both these exercises will be run as group projects and evaluated by the whole group.

Section: 19: Live Trading SimulationThis section lasts two full days. Each student will be equipped with a trading terminal and run through two days of evolving trading, interrupted by news events, technical patterns and real world events. Students will trade on their terminal and face the real life experience of a Treasury Trader, Fund Manager or Analyst.

The Investing Simulation is designed to teach trading techniques and allows the student to experience the pressures of the institutional front office, in a realistic and responsible environment.

You will Learn the role of a Treasurer, Trader, Fund Manager, Analyst, Sales and Broker.

Live the excitement and competitive environment of a modern dealing room.

Gain years of trading experience - our trading simulation equips student with the equivalent trading experience as that obtainable over the first years of working in an institution.

Use this realistic experience to decide in which direction your financial career should focus.

The section will cover: Making your plan, Identifying opportunities, which asset class and market, which instrument type, risk-management. Executing the plan, making the trade, managing the trade, closing out and taking your profit or loss. Trade monitoring and evaluation.

Module Two: Three months of online tutoring––––––––––––––On your return from the London Stock Exchange Group Academy, following 10 days of intense learning, you will be enrolled in a three-month tutored online module, consisting of six tutorials. These will expand on the topics covered in Module One, and allow you to deepen your understanding of institutional trading. Emphasis will be placed on practical application of the techniques learned in Module One.The six tutorials will be scheduled over the three month duration of Module Two and will be accompanied by additional resources and activities to enhance the learning experience. They will be fully supported by an online tutor who will provide ongoing support.

Among the features of Module Two are:• A pre-course live open session to introduce the course and give you the opportunity to

ask questions• Exercises and questions to reinforce core trading concepts• A mid-course online open session to document progress and address any challenges• Anytime support and troubleshooting (via email with a 24-hour response)• A post-course live open session to evaluate the course content, address any final

questions and strategise the way forward.

The City of London Dragons––––––––The financial district is officially known as The City of London; colloquially referred to as ‘The City’. All access roads into this incredibly valuable square mile, containing London Stock Exchange, the Bank of England and all the major financial institutions are guarded by statues of dragons bearing the coat of arms of the City of London on their shields.
