Welcome to Loatlands Primary School,

Desborough and the United Kingdom

Its amazing at Loatlands you get new friends really quick!! We go on loads of amazing trips to places like our capital city (London).

We all stick to a daily basis, every Monday we go swimming but at different times, but the infants don’t.

The infants have just done an amazing Christmas play. The juniors are doing a play called “Pirates Of The Curry Bean.” We have at least one party every term. We have a football team. Do you have a school Foot-ball Team? We even have a school Cricket Team.

Foreword We have tried to put together a few articles about our

school , our country and our traditions. When you start

something like this you begin to realise how much goes

together to make our country different and to us, special.

We feel you may not get the flavour of the place through this

booklet but would advise you come and visit us where you can

see, taste and experience what makes or country special.

The majority of the contributions in this booklet are from Our

Year 6, 10 and 11 year old pupils. They are beginning to re-

alise that one of the best ways of learning is to travel and I

hope they and all Loatlands pupils will go on to visit many

other countries in their lifetime. This is one of the great

things about Comenius projects like this. It is great to look

at a map of Europe and the Wordl and to feel you have

experienced some of the wonderful countries and made some

very special friends who you keep in touch with long after the

project has finished.

Best Wishes to all who read this and we hope you will come

and visit us soon. A warm welcome awaits you from Loatlands

Primary School, Desborough and the United Kingdom.

My favourite food is a traditional Christmas dinner, it includes a roast turkey or duck , lots of veggies, a Yorkshire pud-ding ,stuffing and apple sauce then any pudding you want. I love this dinner because it comes with a Christmas cracker which you pull apart whoever get the biggest end wins the prize and a little something with a joke and a paper hat. I always win, I even got a toe nail clipper. We have this dinner on Christmas Day. I also love Christmas because of the pre-sents and I like to have loads. My mum and dad always gets me lots.

My favourite English food is delicious toad in the hole. I like it because I love homemade Yorkshire puddings and lovely Lincolnshire sausages. The sausages sizzle on your tongue and the Yorkshire puddings are soft in the middle, whilst you have to crunch on the edges. The smell makes you want to tuck in straight away as soon as you reach your plate. I would love to eat it every single day if I could because it has such an amazing taste. That just shows how much I love Toad in the hole. The look of the sausages and Yorkshire puddings is awesome especially the brown sausages and soft Yorkshire puddings.

My favourite English food is a traditional English breakfast fry-up. You have it with orange juice [at the weekend]. I like how the sausage gets nice and crispy and it makes your mouth water, also I like it when the eggs drip with yolk all over your toast. Then the Heinz beans bubble in the pan and when you put it on the plate it smothers all over it. When you have an English fry-up you mainly have it with your family.

List of what you Have.

• Tea and/or Orange Juice

• Toast

• Tomatoes, Fried bread

• Beans and/or Mushrooms

• Bacon, Sausages and Eggs

My favourite thing is food and my favourite food is jacket potato. I like it when it has cheese, beans and onions because it tastes so good it makes my mouth water. The potato is so big it can’t fit in your mouth with one gulp and you get lots on your plate so that is my best thing. My best pudding is delicious lemon tart because they are the best. Jacket potato and lemon tart …..Yummy!

My favourite food is…

My favourite food is fish and chips. I get it from a local chip shop in Desborough. It is the nearest shop to me. I go there every Saturday, you can smell it from miles away. It is lovely, crunchy and smelly. It is one of the most delicious foods in the whole world to me. All of my family love fish and chips too, to me it is one of the most popular foods. Some-times I have it on a week day so, I have it 2 times a week sometimes when I am extra good I get it 3 times a week, but that is only when I am so good at home. When my friend comes round we have to have it because she doesn’t like anything we have at home.

An English breakfast, mmn. There are lovely, crunchy sausages, deli-cious dippy eggs, and runny baked beans; scrumptious juicy tomato, and warm mushy mush-rooms. Also the crispy, tasty black pudding. Did you know that black pud-ding is made of blood! My stomach is rumbling when I smell the fry up with the baked beans sizzling and the sausages steaming. By Demi Fox

My favourite English food is a dreamy Chelsea bun

Because it is a soft crunchy bun and then a sugary icing and to top it all of a juicy red cherry! They come from Chelsea in England and that’s why they are called Chelsea buns. They smell heavenly, and when you go to take a bite you get ad-dicted to it straight away and it tastes so dreamy and they are all cooked to perfection and you can’t go wrong (unless you burn it. A Chelsea bun is so heavenly you fall in love with the sight and smell of it. The smell floats through the air and wafts around to you and it smells warm, heavenly and dreamy. It leaves you taste buds tingling.

It leaves a sensational taste in your mouth! By Charlotte

HolidaysHolidaysHolidaysHolidays

My favourite holiday is Falmouth, Devon. When I go, every morning, I see the lovely sun shining on the water and the fishermen going out on their boats. When I go there, I have a McDonalds for breakfast. I love to have a hash brown and some orange juice. In Falmouth my family stay and I stay in a 3 storey house that is right by the sea. From the house I can see the sea. I can hear the sea crashing on the rocks and the seagulls squawking. Out of the window, I saw a ship being built and on the last day it set sail to sea. When I am in Falmouth I go on lovely walks on the beach. I really enjoyed this holiday and I would really love to go again. By Millie Bott

My favourite English holiday place is Cornwall because it is warm like a radiator. I like to go to the beach with my grandad I always hear the ice-cream van and smell fish and chips now that makes my tummy rumble very badly. I always ask my grandad if I can have an ice-cream, so he buys me a bubble gum ice-cream and it is brilliant. Normally when I go to the beach I always run to play in the sea while my grandad lies on the yellow sand. Sometimes I just surfon my little surf board in the shallows. By Faith Hillier

My favourite day out is London

When I went to London I got on the train it was an hour on the train, the first thing you need to know about London is it is the most biggest city ever. There is so much to see and do and the Olympics clock is counting down. There is Big Ben, it is connected to the houses of Parliament. There is the London Eye it is so big and round but at night it is beautiful a because it is all lit up At night everything is lit up with all different coloured lights .There are the big grey lions in Tra-falgar Square, it’s got the big National Gallery with all differ-ent paintings. There is a l Science Museum, it’s got all sorts of things in there that you can press. There is National His-tory Museum. By Emily Sutherland

British Seaside Mablethorpe – quite far away from Desborough on the east coast near another seaside town called Skegness. Mablethorpe is cool. It is big and there are lots of things to do. You stay in a caravan. The caravan is cosy with two little bedrooms but you can sleep on the sofa if there are not enough beds. The food is scrumptious – hot dogs, garlic bread and you can sit on the beach and eat chips. You can have doughnuts too but you need to be careful that the seagulls don’t steal them! There is a sandy beach to dig in and the sea to paddle or swim in. By Jack Waterfield and Matthew Russell

Center Parks Center Parks is a big hotel thing with lots of swimming pools. One of the swimming pools is at the end of a lane with a shop next to it. The pool is cold when you get it but it gets warmer. The water is bubbly and there is a wave machine that makes huge waves. You can go under the water to get away from the waves. There is a big bumpy slide that looks like a snake and you go really fast on it. If you are small you have to sit on a parent’s knee. Center parks is awesome!

My favourite football team is Liverpool FC. I’ve supported them since I was 4 and I can name most of the team; Gerrard, Reina and Adam, need I go on. People who come from Liverpool are Scousers and there are hardly any Scousers in the Liverpool squad as most of our players are foreign. Liverpool’s stadium (Anfield) has a capacity of over 45,000 and It’s located in Liverpool which is in Merseyside as are our great ri-vals Everton-booooooooo! We beat them every time. So that’s why I support Liverpool because they’re the best team ever!

Guy Martin

Guy Martin was born in Kirmington, North Lincolnshire, England on the 4th November, 1981. He is a British Motorcycle racer, famous for racing at the TT races on the Isle of Man. He has had many po-dium finishes but never won the TT (yet!).

He works a mechanic but more recently has taken on the Television role of presenting the programme “The boat that Guy built”.

In 2012 Guy will be racing for Relentless Suzuki and I hope he wins the TT.

My Favourite WalkMy Favourite WalkMy Favourite WalkMy Favourite Walk

In England I have a favourite walk: it is a place called Foxton Locks. I go there

about 4/5 times a year. When we go we walk over a bridge then down the uneven

slope. As we walk past the locks we will occasionally stop to help open a lock. Then

we wander down to where the restaurant is. We stop by for a drink and look out

over the canal. After

that we feed the ducks

and swans.

My favourite place in England!

My favourite place in England is going to London, I like going to London because there are lots of places to go like Legoland and lots of different museums. The best place to go in London is Le-goland because there are loads of rides to go on and all of the sweets and stuff are really nice to have.

London is the best place to go in England . At London when it is getting close to the New Year, Big Ben goes off. It tells every-one that it is New Year. Then the fire works go off. Everyone celebrates the New Years Day then they cheer. In London there is a count down clock to tell you how many months hours, minuets and seconds till it is New Year . for New Year it is fun because some people go round other peoples houses to cele-brate there, which is a good idea. When it is nearly New Year people stand at the count down clock to wait for the bells to go off.

Olympic games in London 2012

In August 2012 the Olympic Games will be held in London. The last time it was held in England was in 1948.

In our school hall we are counting down the days to the start. It is very exciting and we can’t wait for the games to start.

Lots of people in England tried to buy tickets for the Games. Our Headmaster was lucky enough to get tickets for the Athletics and will see the 1500 metres Men’s Final. Mrs.Ward, the Year 5 teacher has tickets for the swimming events.

Matt Read in Year1 nominated his class teacher to carry the Olym-pic torch and she was selected in December out of thousands who applied. Mrs.Crowther has also had an interview to be a ‘Gamesmaker’, which means, if chosen, she will be one of 70,000 volunteer helpers working behind the scenes to make sure every-thing runs smoothly.

Our Olympic mascots are called Wenlock and Mandeville. You can find out about them on the Olympic website.

• Sportsmen and women will be coming from all over the world to compete.

• Do you know some com-petitors from your country that will be coming to com-pete? Let us know and we will look out for them.

Sports TeamsSports TeamsSports TeamsSports Teams

My favourite sports team is Arsenal. I have been supporting them since I was four, they are a very good football team based in North London. I support them because they were the best team at the time when I started watching football. In Desborough we have a football team called Desborough Town F.C.. We have a school football team which our best play-ers play for. We train regularly withy our coach Mr Probert and have won most of our games. We have a good all round team. By Lewis Hully

Leicester Tigers

To avoid going to Tesco’s on a Saturday afternoon I watch Leicester Tigers Rugby Club. Over the years the club has been very successful winning two European Cups and reaching the final on five occasions. They have also won the Premiership title on a regular basis. The ground, Welford Road now holds 24,000 people and the great thing is that supporters from both teams can stand or sit together, enjoy an drink and there is never any trouble. When I have the time I like to go to away games as well , Bath is probably the favourite trip as it is such a beautiful city. I have been to European games in Wales, Scotland, Ireland, France and Italy. Dublin and Paris are probably my favourites but all of them hold special memories.

Triangular Lodge by Year 1

Year 1 have been working on 2-D shapes, including triangles. Just out-side Desborough is a building known as Triangular Lodge. It is a 3-sided building and because it is so unusual and serves no particular purpose it is known as one of England’s ‘follies’.

It is thought that it was built by Sir Thomas Tresham in 1597. It was a symbol of his strong Catholic beliefs at a time when Catholics had to keep their faith a secret. Tresham built walls and windows in threes to secretly symbolise the Holy Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Ghost that lie at the centre of the Catholic faith. Everything on the building has 3 sides, even the chimneys. There are 3 floors and all the numbers on the outside of the building can be divided by 3. Francis Tresham, his son, was involved in the Gunpowder Plot to blow up the Houses of Par-liament in London. The plot was discovered when he warned friends not to attend Parliament.

Nearby is Rushton Hall and people think that there is a hidden tunnel joining it to Triangular Lodge. It has never been found, but a ghost is meant to haunt it.

If you come to Desborough you will be able to see our local Folly.

My favourite meal is Christmas Dinner when I go to my Grandma and Grandads house in Harrogate. At dinner time we go to the pub to have Christmas tea (Yorkshire puddings, succulent turkey, crispy roast po-tatoes, juicy peas smothered in gravy) and afterwards I have Christmas pudding with runny custard.

Christmas is best!Christmas is best!Christmas is best!Christmas is best!

My favourite celebration in England is Easter because it is my birthday and you can get lots of chocolate Easter eggs. My favourite thing is Xbox 360. My favourite game on it is Modern Warfare 3. My second favourite is Black Ops. My favourite sports team is Liverpool Football Club because they are good. I like different teams like Norwich City and Leeds as well.

My favourite celebration is Christmas.

Every year on the 25th of December we have Christmas, which is a celebration to represent the birth of Jesus (a son of god) created a tradi-tion were every year a chubby man called Santa claws or father Christ-mas – he has lots of different names. - comes down every house’s all around the world delivering presents all around the world for the exited children when they wake up in a little while , that’s why Santa has to be quick to stop them from waking up. Then he will go to were the children have left the cookies or minced pies and a carrot for Rudolf (Santa’s rein-deer) then he will wiz back up the chimney and sit on his sleigh and go of to the next house and he will do that until the night is over. And he also knows weather you’ve been good or bad and that’s how you don’t always get exactly what was on your Christmas list.( I also wonder how he gets round all the house’s in one night) when he is done he fly’s back to the north pole parks his sleigh and puts his reindeer away walks to his giant globe and watches all of the children open there presents and them play with them then he gets back to work and starts building every presents they can think of.

My favourite celebration is Christmas because I like decorating the Christmas tree with tinsel,

bourballs, lights and putting the angel on top. We also put carrots on a plate for Rudolph and a

mince pie and a glass of milk for Santa. On Christmas Eve I always enjoy watching where Santa

is on Santa Tracker on the computer. I love eating Christmas dinner that contains Roast turkey

with gravy, winter vegetables and stuffing. I also love to eat Christmas pudding with custard I

also love to eat Christmas cake with icing as white as snow. I love it when it snows because you

can then make a snowman with sticks for arms and stones for the eyes and mouth. I also like

having snowball fights

.

My favourite English holiday is Norfolk, it is in a caravan park, we stay in a beautiful caravan right beside the sea. The salty sea water laps against the rocks below our caravan! Every morning the sun brightly shines down on the caravan and through our windows. Near our caravan there is a little shop that next to it has an arcade, we go there often and try to win some goodies! I can always hear birds tweeting and seagulls yapping but it is not a noisy sound it is always a peaceful relaxing sound! Where I stay the beach is always an option. Whether it’s swimming and splashing, flying kites or having a barbeque we seem to often be on the beach! The sea is salty but that doesn’t stop me going in it! The atmosphere in Norfolk is kind and friendly and I never see a sad face in Norfolk!

My favourite English Holiday place is Great Yarmouth, its warm like a radiator, I went swimming every day there is a baby pool and big swimming pool that was a bit deep, Me and my sister went in hydro-balls, First we but helmets on then we got into the ball the man pumped it up he pushed me into the water and we had to try and stand up (it was hard!) after that we went Miami beach surfing where you had to put goggles on and swim with a big fan and you had to go threw hoops (it was amazing!) there was a park next door and go-karts you could even hire bikes to go round Great Yarmouth, I love Great Yarmouth its amazing too! And I would there again because its fun

MY FAVOURITE ENGLISH THING

My family and I went camping in Devon for a week. It was ex-tremely funny when the tent blew down in the middle of the night because of the vicious wind. I had to fetch the water in the morning from the tap in the welcoming campsite. The birds woke us up in the morning due to their deafening singing. Dur-ing the holiday, we ate a delicious English fry up. It rained a lot so the field – that we were camping in – was drenched and filthy. There were not many people in the campsite: this made it even better. It was completely freezing in the night and freez-ing in the day. You could feel nothing but disgusting mud un-derneath your feet. I really enjoyed Devon. It was a great ex-perience and I am hoping to go again.

My favourite English holiday

My favourite English holiday is in Devon. Because I love the beautiful beaches. Especially Woolacombe beach. It is the 8th best beach in the world! I love the soft sand that sinks my feet like quick sand, drowning the foolish victim that stepped into its territory… But the jellyfish in the sea are scary and stung me one time and it hurt!! But when you get used to being in the water its okay. Also the sand mounds are AWSOME!! I can slide down them on my surf board! But one time I fell off face first thanks to my sister, jumping on the end, and I twisted my wrist! Also in the other beaches, The rock-pools are great! In one of them I saw a crab the size of a book! Also I have a cracking memory of a mini crab hanging of my sisters toe! It was so funny!

Also in a Devon camping and caravanning site that I went to, there is a Pet-a-rama were you can hold baby rabbits, guinea pigs, Kittens and two collie pups! Also I fed some cows! They were so cute! The wet slobbery noses that I could stroke felt like my dogs wet nose. The man that owned it, had the mum to the collie that came to feed the pups every now and then. Also he had a beautiful greyhound that liked to stare at the birds!

Also in the site there was pubs, Shops- food and toys-

Parks and toilets and showers. The site was massive.

And those are the reasons I love Devon.

My Favourite Day Out

One of my best days out is at Conkers. T he first and only time I’ve been there was when we went on a school trip. The reason I like it is because you get to hold ugly and weird creatures, like tarantula’s and even get to stroke skunks. They also have a train ride which leads to a park, the parks they have there are AMAZING!!!!!!!!! But the thing I don’t like about it, is den building because the last time i did it there, I tripped over and broke my elbow, so I missed the best part, the bare foot trail, you walk through mud water and stones, even hay, it sounds so cool !

By Bryn Daniel

MY FAVROUTE THING TO DO !!!!!!!!!!

At Haven holidays they have go karts and they are really fun to go on so that is why they were so much money.

This is one of the cool swimming pools.

There was lots of cool caravans there was a very big one

And I really wanted it because it was so big and it was

pretty .
