1-RELATIONSHIP

Friends,

In the year 1992 the book ‘relationship’ was brought out for those who would like to read and understand.

Now in the year 2010 this lecture on relationship is developed for those who would like to hear and understand.

Instead of relationship through book now our relationship is through slides and talk.

The word relationship used here is not usual human relationship but it is total relationship including human relationship.

One may compare with Einstein’s theory of relativity.Relativity is the relationship defined.

The management of world is nothing but management of these relationships.

If you feel the expanded title ‘the science and philosophy of existence’ cumbersome then we may say ‘the science of existence’. Here ‘existence’ means being. In ‘Marathi’ it means ‘Astitwa’.

We are looking here into the purpose of existence

Author and presenter: Nagraj Jain—Qualification-B.E. (Electrical), Post graduate diploma in business management; Retired superintending engineer from M.S.E.B. ; Experience of 34 years in electrical undertaking.

2-KNOWLEDGE FOR LOVE

Relationships cannot be understood without knowledge. Therefore let us understand knowledge first. The knowledge is power.

Please use it for love and not for hate.

The knowledge should bring the sense of responsibility rather than authority. There is ‘Sanskrit’ saying that ‘Vidya vinayen shobhate’.

This is accepted doctrine that knowledge will not last long or will not be effective if it is misused. Therefore do not exploit others.

Friends,

I am dedicating this lecture to my teacher Shri G.D. Phadake who taught me to use knowledge for love.

‘Him that I love, I wish to be free even from me’

Please understand ‘knowledge for love’ and not ‘knowledge of love’.

3-FORCE OF LOVE

Love thy neighbor as thyself is the teaching of the ‘Bible’.

In simple words we may say it is the force of love that keeps the world going and it is the force of hate that shatters the world into pieces.

The lesson for us is that our organization being our small world, it will survive and flourish only if we inculcate love.

The hate will fragment the organization.

This principle is applicable to small institution like family and society as well as to big institutions like nations and world.

Please take a vow to love and be loved.

Please note that it is the love that is important and not small or big organization.

5-Universe of infinity

Chapter 1: Matter and energyChapter 2: Space, motion and timeChapter 3: MicrocosmChapter 4: Macrocosm

Look at the nearest point and look at the farthest point.

The nearest point will be somewhere in our body itself where as the farthest point will be out there in the sky beyond the stars.

Between these two pints lies whole universe.

Nearest things are quite clear however farthest things are not so clear.

The distance of the farthest point cannot be measured. It is beyond measurement and therefore infinite. Likewise is the universe.

4-HIERARCHY

Universe is stupendous whole. All are parts of it.

It is a complete system having sub-systems.

As compared to universe we are nothing more than a particle, a speck of dust in the cosmos.

But each such particle can consider itself as a universe in its own way.

Similarly compared with universe man is particle but compared with atom man is universe.

Looked at from this point of view, we are down and up or significant and insignificant simultaneously.

5-STATIC

We already know that matter and energy exist in the universe.

It must be understood that they exist in space. The space in which there is no matter or energy will be called void or free space. Thus along with matter and energy void also exists in the universe.

Emptiness or vacuum or void was thought to be impossibility, till it was discovered in Torricellian tube. Torricellian tube is a devise to measure atmospheric pressure.

Pure matter, energy or void is impossibility. All three are within each other.

In all the periods of history of science need was felt for a common all pervading medium of communication in the universe.

In the eastern philosophical term it is called ‘Atma’.

In the western world during the period when chemistry ruled it was called ‘Eather’. In today’s space age it is being called ‘void’.

These are different names by which we understand common all pervading medium in a better way.

6-DYNAMIC

The energy acts on matter by exerting the force of attraction or repulsion.

By the action of energy matter moves through void or space.

This motion of matter gives rise to the concept of time.

Inertia of matter introduces time delay in action.

Thus motion does not take place at the instant energy is applied.

This explains the existence of dynamic universe. In the universe all that exists is undergoing change.

The conversions from matter to matter, energy to energy, energy to matter and matter to energy are going on with the condition of conservation of existence i.e. conservation of matter and energy.

Einstein had put all these statements in the form of his famous mathematical equation E = M into C square.

This equation shows the relationship between energy and matter and states the conservation of existence.

The equation also shows conservation of void or space or vacuum as a corollary.

CONSERVATION OR EVOLUTIONAND

ONENESS OR DUALITY

7-CONSERVATION AND EVOLUTION

Unless the existence of the common smallest unit of energy and matter is accepted, evolution(conversion) and conservation phenomena may not be explained.

In the universe same kind of matter and energy exist as well as different kind of matter and energy exist.

The explanation for this is different ways of attachment of smallest common unit of existence namely ‘Hyle’. One may call if he likes.

Gold and silver are same kind of matter or of different kind?

From some point of view they are different but from some other point of view they are same.

Their colors are different but their state is same i.e. solid state.

8-ONENESS AND DUALITY

One may analyze the concept of duality and oneness.

Let us see how duality is created out of oneness in the field of language. We write with colored ink on white paper. Thus on the background of white paper colored ink creates written language.

Different alphabets are created out of different arrangement of dots. Different words are created out of different arrangements of alphabets. Different paragraphs are created, pages are created and books are created. Thus though the dots are uniform their different arrangements creates multiplicity.

Example - See the words ‘NIB’ and ‘BIN’.

The alphabets are same; their different arrangements resulted in totally different meaning.

Similarly out of common smallest unit of existence whole world came into being.

Thus from the angle of ‘Hyle’ the things are same but from the arrangements of ‘Hyle’ the things are different.

Duality is composed of oneness.

One may compare with duality of wave and particle.

The waves are outcome of particles in motion.

KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM

It is said that knowledge without action is useless and action without knowledge is meaningless. Action based on knowledge is rewarding.

Knowledge can be communicated but not wisdom.

One can find wisdom, live it, be fortified by it and do wonders through it but one cannot communicate and teach it in its true sense.

OBSERVING PHENOMENA AND KNOWING TRUTH

Language is an image of reality and not reality itself. The linguistic analysis has indicated that all philosophical problems are the results of miss-statements. Wrong conclusions are to be avoided.

Modern physics has substituted experiments for speculations. All phenomena are observed through points of scientific enquiry.

Based on observations concepts are formed and formulas are developed which ultimately create final image of outcome or conclusion.

THINK OVER TO KNOW TRUTH

1 Perfectly or truly describing or narrating anything is practically impossible. As we know from images only.

2 Rare events like sighting of meteor or eclipse is not chance event. Its return is possible to predict.

3 If one can do then others must also be in a position to do. Thus repeatability by anybody must be possible. That is scientific knowledge

4 From past comes present and from present future will definitely come. Prediction of future is possible if we know all the parameters which is humanly impossible.

5 It is very difficult to find out the reason for action in which result becomes cause and cause makes the results. Like chain reactions say cause –effect –cause cycle. Here we do not know where one begins and other ends.

6 In cyclic process it is not possible to know from where and when it has started like hen or egg first.

7 Many things cannot be perceived directly by our senses. From their effect they may be perceived. Light is not visible. But the surface on which it falls is made visible to eye.

8 It is possible to come to wrong conclusion from the data available. Like- Cockroach has become deaf as it was not moving on order. Real reason was no legs to move.

9 If two persons came to same conclusions that does not mean their brains are sympathetic to one another. Existence of telepathy will be wrong conclusion.

10 Many times opinions of authorities or experts may be wrong. But people erroneously believed them to be right. Like-In Bible it was stated that earth is flat. And belief in rebirth or reincarnation.

11 Proper analysis of question itself will lead to answer. And vice versa is also true. Example- Behavior of individual and behavior of society. Gravitational force.

12 Sometime certain properties are evident for small article and un-noticeable for large ones.

13 To understand thoroughly holistic approach is must. Studies in isolation will lead to wrong conclusions. Example-Properties of carbon dioxide as a compound and properties of carbon and oxygen separately are totally different.

14 It is bit difficult to grasp as to how same things can be different and different things can be same. Example-You are talking about different aspects of same things or same aspect of different things..

WELFARE

Today the primary task of each INDIVIDUAL is tofind his place or his role in society and worktowards its welfare.

The uniqueness of human being is that he utilizesall the three distinctive features of him namelyconsciousness, will and choice to such an extentno other being is capable of doing.

1

Individual and group

CONSCIOUSNESS

The primary distinctive feature of human nature is consciousness, including human being’s conscious of himself, as well as his consciousness of the universe outside himself, in which his fellow human being figures side by side with non human nature -animate and in-animate.

The consciousness reveals the possibility of making choices and thus evokes will to choose.

WILL AND CHOICE

The man’s apparent power to will –whether it is a reality or illusion (Maya)-is the second of the distinctive spiritual feature of his nature.

The third of these features is his recognition of the distinction between good and evil. This distinction is implicit in the power to choose. Since every choice that a human being makes is in some degree however slight, a choice between life and good on the one hand and death and evil on the other.

GROUP OR SOCIETY

Though man is born alone as individual, he isstamped with certain social groups or casts. We are in a phase of collective existence.

The wars brought into existence group activities. The world wars have made it clear that manhimself is his greatest enemy.

From the point of view of social existence individualis treated as secondary.

Every government is a device by which a fewcontrol the actions of many.

The complex human societies depend for the finaldecision of war and peace on a group of elderlymen, any sensible personal manager wouldhesitate to hire.

“Nor is the people’s judgment always true, themost may err, as grossly as a few.”

“The great civilization is not conquered fromwithout until it has been destroyed itself within.”

It should have been that people shouldcome together for mutual benefit andnot for exploiting others.

Strangely it seems that the message oftwentieth century is ‘Form your owngroup and exploit who are alone.’

This is nothing but formation of cult.

As members form group for their ownbenefit; every group is a sort of cult.

The direction of change indicates that soon we willsee societies marching towards absolute individualfreedom but very little or no social freedom.

The social organization will be bigger, complex andmore powerful.

The society is more important than the individualis the teaching of materialistic world. The individual is more important than society isthe teaching of religious or spiritual world.

But the practical requirement is the fine balancebetween the two. The boundary between the twois not well defined and is uncertain. ‘Moderation is

the silken string running through the pearl chain ofall virtues.’

The protection from the externalaggression and just distribution ofwealth within are the mainproblems faced by the humansociety.

No one should demand from thesociety more than what hedeserves, though it is practicallyimpossible to define what onedeserves.

2

Specialization and planned life

SPECIALIZATION

The social structure should be based on trust and confidencerather than fear and envy. The specialization and plannedlife are the requirements of the society today.

The management of society is analogous to management ofhuman body. The basic departmentalization for bodymanagement is head for thinking, intelligence, knowledgeand decision; hands for fighting, work and protection; legsfor transportation, serving and support and torso for foodprocessing.

Likewise society is also departmentalized in four classes orcastes namely-Brahmins, kshatriyas, vaishyas and shudras. This is specialization by trade or work.

The old crude methods of specialization are being replacedby modern scientific methods.

For last about half a century democratic form of socialorganization served the purpose. The democratic form is nowseems to be totally corrupted and needs replacement byimproved form.

The survival of mankind depends upon the evolution ofsuperior form of social organization.

Throughout the centuries there were men who took first stepdown new roads armed with nothing but own vision. Theirgoal differed but they all had this common-that the step wasfirst, the road new, the vision unborrowed and the responsethey received was hatred. The greatest creators, the thinkers, the artists, the scientists and the inventors stood aloneagainst the men of their time.

Only crooked are worshiped in their own times. The creatorswere tortured in their own time, though worshippedsubsequently.

The men of power namely industrialists, financiers andpoliticians controlled the means by which supranationalorganizations can be formed. The large scale planningand mass scale production are the inevitable results ofmodern methods of communication and production.

After dissolution of bipolar world, and emerging conceptof global village, cheap but quality products bymultinationals may be thrown in the world market.

The nations of the world are marching to achieve supra-national organization through new form of UNO. Thereare signs of breaking up of present form of UNO.

The hegemony of USA against rest of the nations mayprevail for some time.

PLANNED LIFE

In the case of individual the life is planned from birth to death in four ‘Ashramas’ namely

‘Brahmacharyashram’, ‘Grahastashram’, ‘Wanaprasthashram’ and ‘Sanyasashram’. This is specialization by age. We may call it time-scale specialization.

Such a planning in the case of society or nation is very important.

As society gets more specialized more and more expertise is built into it. This results into the neglect of holistic approach to work or problem. Unless more and more ethics and co-operation is built into society, it may not function in an orderly way.

3

Reward of knowledge

Happy life, good physical health and neat and cleanworking are the rewards of knowledge of materialworld. The democracy and the mass productiontechniques have taken the reward of materialprosperity to common man.

This resulted in destruction to fish, animal andplant life and spread of pollution everywhere. Thedrug addiction and terrorism are the side effects.

The enhanced economic progress has takenits tall and has now brought realization aboutnatural and simple living. The call of today iseither back to the basic or back to the nature.

The death of corrupted democracy is not likely to be an assassin from ambush. It will be slow extinction from apathy, indifference and undernourishment.

Where is life we have lost in living?

Where is wisdom we have lost in knowledge?

Where is knowledge we have lost in information?

4

Reward of morality

Morality comes from the concern for others. If I myself do notlike pain why should I give pains to others? It is our concernfor fellow human being, animals and trees on which we dependthat compelled us to think about morality.

The craze for possessing material things made man so greedythat he feels great pangs when time to leave those thingscomes.

The peace of mind can only be achieved through good deedsdone. The assumption that all men are good is not correct. There are many wicked men. The great efforts are required toturn beasts into men.

In animal world we see cruelty. The human beings for theirsurvival need not be cruel. We human beings take pride insacrifice. To leave body by will is respected in human society. This is the pride of our civilization.

‘O Devine masters grant that-

I may not so much seek-

To be consoled as to console;

To be understood as to understand;

To be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive,

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

And it is in dyeing that we are-

Born to eternal life.’

While planning during plenty knowledge will bebeneficial but while planning during scarcitymorality should be the guide.

It seems that peak of achievements ineconomy is over and we are now on declininggraph. In such situation recycling ofresources is of utmost importance.

How China and India support huge populations? It is because the peoples are taught to live withrestraint.

This thing must be put bluntly that every manwho has more than necessary for his livelyhood and for normal development of hisintelligence is a thief and a robber.

The materialism leads to selfishness andgreediness but spiritualism broadens ourperspective of life and makes us think interms of universal welfare.

In case of shortages of commodity rationingis must. If because of shortages price rise isallowed commodity will be available tomoneyed peoples only. Money is created incities and is grabbed by rich people. It doesnot reach in sufficient quantity to poorpeoples in villages. It must be ensured thatpeople do not starve.

The wide gap between have’s and have not’sshould be reduced.

5

Religion and science

GOD

It is worth noting that in spite of advancement ofscience man has not discarded churches, temples or mosques. And even men of sciencevisit them.

It is surprising that one man with God is alwaysin majority. With God came rituals. Passing timewith rituals is pleasurable activity.

God may instill fear or pleasure in you likedream. Both God and dream though virtual aremuch sought after as they help in passing time.Their effect is like placebo.

S0UL

Soul and God are invented concepts for lifeand universe as the common man or laymancannot understand creation without creator.

The soul is not different from body. It is theproperty of the body.

God is not different from universe. It is theproperty of universe.

Difference between soul and God is of sizeand not of quality. Soul is God in miniatureform.

REBIRTH AND CONSERVATION

In India along with God the concept of rebirth also works for thebenefit of society.

The Indians believe in ‘life after’ and therefore many lives await

them.

The theory of rebirth coupled with that of ‘Karma’ is the most

complete form of human desire for a moral world order.

The ancient religious concept of rebirth and the modernscientific concept of conservation are not different.

The ancient concept is applicable to life only where as modernconcept is applicable to whole of the universe including life.

Many times conservation is achieved through evolution.

Ancient concept of rebirth

Modern concept of conservation

Life Universe

Soul (Atma) Past form God (Parmatma)

Knowledge Present form Property

Will Present form Force (ofattraction or repulsion)-Cause

Inertia-Time lag

Action(Karmas) Present form Motion(Cyclic, Spiraling, Oscillating)

Dynamic-Effect

Result Future form Evolution-Change

RELIGION

The yesterday’s science is religion of todayand today’s science will be religion of

tomorrow.

The present generation enjoys because of pastgeneration. Therefore all religions advocateprayers to ancestors.

The religion stands for set rules based onexperience and knowledge.

The faith is to believe what you do not see.The reward for this faith is to see what youbelieve.

SCIENCE

It is pure illusion to think that an opinion thatpasses down from century to century, fromgeneration to generation may not be entirelyfalse. The experience of generations may bewrong if it has not changed with changed times.

Similarly authority and majority may also bewrong.

The believers and unbelievers are two sides of thesame coin. There are two ways to slide easilythrough life namely to believe everything or todoubt everything. Both ways save us fromthinking.

The science has promised us truth.

It has not promised us either peace orhappiness.

The science stands for untrampelled enquiryand free thinking for new rules.

The religion demands conformity where asscience proposes deviations.

The breakup of any society is alwaysalarming for the established authorities.

The passing time with pleasure frombirth till death is an important goal ofall the individuals. The rituals in thesociety and religion are handy toachieve this goal particularly when youdo not have anything more important todo.

If science is considered a priest-hoodtoo difficult for the common man tounderstand; then dangers of abuse aregreater. This is also applicable toreligions.

6

Right Direction

The nationalism is an infantile disease. Itunnaturally divides rivers, mountains, landsand seas which are useful as a whole but notso useful in parts.

Our school books glorify war & hide its horrors. Wemust show to the public pains of wars, and thenonly wars may not occur. One should teach peacerather than war. If past wars are forgotten thenthere is possibility that new wars may irrupt. Oneshould inculcate love rather than hate to avoidwars. For better world of tomorrow the young onesin the school should be taught ethics & moralityrather than standards of living.

In the name of religion one tortures, prosecutesand builds pyres. In the guise of ideologies onemassacres, tortures and kills. In the name of loveof one’s country or of one’s race one hates other

countries and massacres other people. The mennever do evil so complete and cheerfully as whenthey do it from religious conviction. The creedsgrow so thick along the way their boughs hide God.

There are clearly two sides namely others andmine. The rules applicable are different for theperson on the platform and for the person in thetrain. The gun manufacturers are awarding peaceprices. The sinners are the advocates of religion. There are duplicate policies everywhere. There isnothing in common between the means and theends.

Ours is the age of substitutes. Instead of language we have jargons. Instead of principles we have slogans. Instead of genuine ideas we have bright ideas.

This is the age of advertising. It is very difficult to understand truth from falsehood.

The mankind is painfully and confusedly adjusting to unprecedented technological changes. Only a great free intellectual can restore the shattered morals of our race and give definite direction to its disordered will.

7

Ultimate

The new race will master the secrets ofgenetics and will produce new forms of lifefor their use and pleasure.

With their new found powers they willbegin to raise mountains at will, controlthe rainfall and direct the winds.

One day they will stand upon a footstooland reach out their hands amid the stars.

The mind of new race will be at one withthe universe.

The reward for morality will be for generationsto come.

The history has shown us that world wars andHitler’s gas chambers were the outcome of

knowledge that was not controlled by morality.

The freedom is an indivisible word. If we wantto enjoy it, we must be prepared to extend it toeveryone; whether they agree with us or not.

The peace is more important than the justice. The peace is not made for the sake of justice, but justice for the sake of peace.

The knowledge teaches us to do things in a betterfashion and in an improved way. It teaches us thebetter methods. Though your method is knowledgeyour target is love and not knowledge. The biblerightly forewarns about the forbidden fruits of thetree of knowledge.

The society observes the laws but religion teacheslove. The love cannot be brought through knowledgealone. The mind that is pursuing knowledge withoutlove is ruthless.

There must be the moral control over the knowledge ofscience.
