Poppy

Dear little Poppy has been at LostCatsBrighton since February 2014. This beautiful girl has had rather a difficult start in life and subsequently has had a hard time learning to trust people. Having arrived pregnant, Poppy nurtured and doted upon her beautiful litter of 5 kittens, who have now all been rehomed. Poppy has gradually grown in confidence as the months have passed and in desperate need of a quiet, loving home environment in which she can finally allow herself to relax and enjoy life. Poppy remains shy but will accept treats from a hand and occasionally invites a stroke.

A new home for Corkey

Having spent much of the past year in and out of the shelter, lovely Corkey has now found a wonderful new home. It was third time lucky for Corkey who had previously been adopted but things had not worked out for her. Corkey is now happy and settled in her new home. We wish her and her new human companion many happy times together.

Basil

Basil arrived at the shelter in June. As a long term stray, Basil had acquired serious injuries and health issues and was rushed for emergency veterinary treatment. It was touch and go whether Basil would pull through. But after a few months of dedicated care, Basil is like a different cat – happy and healthy, with a really affectionate personality. Basil is looking forward to going to his new home in the near future in which he can enjoy all the love and comfort his early life lacked. He is a real character and will be very missed at LostCatsBrighton.

Poor Jake has been confused and depressed after his previous guardian passed away. He clearly misses the company and would love to find a home in which he can form a strong bond with his new human companion. Jake has really shown his personality recently and he is a lovely, affectionate cat who loves being brushed and stroked.

Ziggy

Beautiful little Ziggy is a lovely longhaired black female cat who has somehow been overlooked in the past few months. Ziggy is desperate for a home and always the first to jump into a cat carrier when cats get adopted! She is a truly loving and affectionate young cat who is waiting for someone to come along and fall in love with her and offer her the wonderful future she deserves.

Happy Endings Cats in Need of Homes

So many cats have passed through our shelter, whether as strays or cats needing homes, and here are a handful of stories about some of the characters we have been privileged to care for.

Jake

This very handsome young man is in need of a new home, having spent the past few months at the shelter.

A very happy ending!

Marty the cat was reunited after an

amazing 348 days!!! A member of

the public phoned us re a stray in her garden, and our volunteer Fiona went along, scanned him to check if he was microchipped. Amazingly it was Marty!! Who’s owner nearly fainted when we told her he'd been found!

In loving memory of Ron’s cats who passed

away this year

Goodbye Dear Molly – a free spirit to the very end

Molly was absolutely adorable and was mentioned in our last year’s newsletter due to being such a character, who used to drink Ron’s tea by dipping her paw in his cuppa. She modelled last year a special jumper as she was so matted because of her love for being outdoors in all weathers, that she had to be shaved so we gave her a jumper to wear to keep warm. Sadly, yet again, one of Ron’s special cats has been taken from him due to a road traffic accident. In hindsight it was probably inevitable as she did love crossing the road and had a particular interest in buses. She was a free spirit who sadly used up her nine lives. She was found lifeless by the side of the road on 22nd October this year. May she rest in peace.

I Kittens, Kittens, Kittens!

Molly

Shirley

In loving memory of Ron’s cats who passed

away this year n 2014, LostCatsBrighton have taken in more unwanted and abandoned kittens than ever, as well as several pregnant cats. Some of the nursing and pregnant mothers have experienced serious complications requiring urgent veterinary care, and several kittens have required around the clock feeding and care.

We cannot stress enough the importance of having cats spayed and neutered, as this will save so many unwanted litters from being born. There are simply not enough homes, and rescues are left to feel the strain.

Many of the kittens have gone to caring homes, whilst a few pairs of kittens and their mums are still in need of loving forever homes.

We cannot express how important it is to get your cat microchipped. It would be very unlikely that Marty would be back with his owner if he hadn’t been microchipped. The power of a microchip works and reduces unnecessary anxiety and worry for cat owners. If your cat is not microchipped please do so. We can chip cats for £10 if you bring your cat to us . This is a lot cheaper than most vets.

In loving memory of John Mansell. John was a wonderful character who loved people and had a great love for animals, especially cats. He started off as a volunteer with Ron, became a Trustee as well as a good friend. In his time with us he worked tirelessly for the charity but sadly, after a fairly

long illness, he lost his brave fight and passed away in October just gone.

May he rest in Peace.

Dome Sweet Dome!

Many thanks to our intrepid vet Margaret from Acorn Vets who certainly rose to the challenge with raising some funds for Lost Cats in October. Despite being terrified of heights, she decided to do a sponsored climb over the O2 Dome in London. "I didn't look down, but the views were breath-taking" was Margaret's comment! What an achievement.

A Big

Thank

You

With Special Thanks

Keren O'Mahoney also has tirelessly worked for the last 20 years raising vital funds for many local animal charities including our own. Also to Marcia from Pet Rescue who supports us and who we can turn to in an hour of need.

New Fundraiser

Thank you to our new fundraiser David who is pulling out all the stops to help us raise much needed funds.

Sha’run’ Ran for Ron!

Also thanks to our volunteer Sharon who ran the Brighton Marathon in April, again raising much needed funds.

Fundraising Anna

Our youngest fundraiser to date is lovely nine year old Anna who was an absolute star and made loom band bracelets to help raise essential funds for our rescue. She managed to raise £63!!! We are so pleased she thought of us.

Thank you Anna x
