Eminent 93-year-old pianist Menahem Pressler, “a national treasure” (Los Angeles Times), makes his Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra solo debut performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major under the baton of guest conductor Thomas Dausgaard in a mid-week program on Tuesday, January 30, 8 pm, at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, and Wednesday, January 31, 2018, 8 pm, at UCLA’s Royce Hall. Dausgaard, Principal Conductor of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Chief Conductor Designate of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Designate of the Seattle Symphony, also conducts his own orchestrations of selections from Brahms’ Hungarian Dances and Liebeslieder Waltzes. The program concludes with Mozart’s Symphony No. 41 in C Major, “Jupiter,” the composer’s final and longest symphony. Pressler, founding member and pianist of the Beaux Arts Trio, has established himself among the world’s most distinguished and honored musicians with a career that spans almost six decades. Now, in his ninth decade, he continues to captivate audiences throughout the world as performer and pedagogue, performing to great critical acclaim while maintaining a dedicated and robust teaching career.Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO), ranked among the world’s top musical ensembles, marks its 50th anniversary in the 2017-18 season.
