Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle is located in the county of Berkshire, England.

It is one of the royal residences and it is the largest inhabited castle in the world.

In 1992 a massive fire took place in Windsor Castle. Over 100 rooms were damaged by either fire or the water used to extinguish the fire.

The cost of Windsor Castle’s restoration was nearly £40 million.

Interesting Facts

The original castle was made of wood.

Elizabeth I spent a great deal of time at Windsor Castle.

The location of the castle meant that it could watch over the River Thames and Windsor Forest (a royal hunting ground).

More than five hundred people live and work in Windsor Castle.

Nelson's ColumnIt’s one of London and England’s most iconic sight.

•Nelson’s Column was refurbished in 2006

•The monument is 51.6 meters tall.

•If Hitler had successfully invaded Britain in the Second World War, he planned to move Nelson’s Column to Berlin.

• The monument was constructed between 1840 and 1843 to a design by William Railton at a cost of £47,000.

Four lions are sitting in the same positions, they are actually not identical.

the sculptor John Graham Lough was chosen to carve them.

Regent Street

Regent Street is one of the major shopping streets in the West End of London.

Well known to tourists and locals alike and famous for its Christmas illuminations.

• Every building in Regent Street is protected as a listed building with at least Grade II status, and together they form the Regent Street Conservation Area.

It is named after the Prince Regent (later George IV).

The street was completed in 1825 and was an early example of town planning in England, cutting through the 17th and 18th century street pattern through which it passes.

There is a yearly Regent Street Festival when the street is closed to traffic for the day
