LOGO DESIGNStep-by-step process

Page 2: Logo design

The artist I am promoting is Sean Bones. Rather than designing a logo which was vague and similar to existing artist logos, I thought by using Sean Bones’ name to create something more quirky would be more fitting to the style of artist he is.

DRAWING

The concept of the logo is to have a bone (fitting in with the name of the artist) and to then add

initials/text.

I began by drawing out a few ideas testing different materials to draw with. These were then scanned onto my laptop and the

outline was edited to make it look more professional. The

background was also removed so that the image could be placed

easily onto the website and digipak.

FINAL LOGO OUTLINE - scanned, edited and

background removed.

ADDING TEXT

I’m using Wix.com to create my website, and whilst I was looking through the features I realised that as part of the photo editor there is an option to add text. As I mentioned previously, I want the logo to include the initials ‘SB’ or the full name, ‘Sean Bones‘ so I began experimenting with text (I decided to use Times New Roman as this is a classic font which compliments the fonts I have used elsewhere on the website).

ADDING EFFECTS

Chosen effect

As I mentioned in a previous blog post, I recently found a photo editing app called pixlr-o-matic when I was browsing through the app store on my phone. I found out it can also be used on a MacBook, so I have been experimenting with it and have definitely decided to use it to design my logo, and possibly to edit the digipak photographs. Here are a few samples of the effects I added to my original logo - the reason I decided to add effects was because when I placed the logo onto the website it seemed out of place with its bright white colour and neat outline. This app has quite a few effects which fade and distort outlines and generally make the image more ‘grunge-like’ which is more fitting to my website.

USING ON THE WEBSITE

1. Larger logo

2. Smaller

logo

I definitely prefer the smaller logo on the banner as it goes with the subtle, understated theme I’m using throughout the website and digipak.
