Login with Facebook: Fast registration & personalization

Facebook Login is a secure and easy way for people to log in to your app or website and give your players a personalized experience that increase engagement. Follow these policies and best practices to drive up your Facebook Login conversion rates:

•  Optimizing your login experience: Provide a high-quality video and screenshots of the top features in your game

•  Permissions: Only ask for the permissions you need, ask for additional permissions later as players progress in your game.

•  Conversion: Prominent without disrupting the player’s experience, offer Facebook login in the right context, explain the benefits of login

Building app experiences that people understand and trust is key to successfully using Facebook Login. Apps that follow these best practices

help people feel comfortable and can see conversion rates above 80%.

1.  Ask for permissions in context.

Apps should only ask for the permissions they

need when they need them. For example, if apps

asks for publish permissions, then they should

only ask for those permissions when people select

to “share,” “post,” or “publish” content.

2. Include education to help people

understand how information from their Facebook Profile is used in your app.

If people understand why an app is requesting

certain information, then they are more likely to

grant the app access to that information.

Login: Best Practices from the Facebook Policy Team

3. Use Facebook button and Facebook branding consistent with the Brand Guidelines.

4. Test your Facebook Login flow.

Instructions on how to test your Login flow can be found

here:

5. Submit your app for Login Review (if applicable).

Apps that request permissions beyond basic profile,

user_friends,, and email , must submit for Login Review.:

Interesting examples caught on Facebook

Canvas: Provide a high-quality Login experience

•  Optimize your App Details page to increase CTR •  Represent your game in the Login Dialog •  Only ask for permissions you need

Optimizing Your App Details Page

1.  Showcase your game by adding a video to your Game page

2.  Pro-Tip: Update app icon, screenshots based on seasons, ongoing sales, etc.

3.  Add plenty of screenshots which represent your game well

4.  Describe your game’s features, e.g. highlight unique features

5.  Cross-platform game: People who have installed Facebook on iOS or Android will also see the “Send to Mobile” option

6.  Only ask for permissions you need. You can add ask for additional permissions later in the game

7.  Default the privacy selector to “Friends”, not “Public”

Optimizing App Details Page The Rats Online: A short video is showcasing the game play and game features, giving a great introduction into what the player can expect when installing the game

Royal Dice: Providing plenty of additional screenshots representing the game well

Optimizing Login Dialog

New: When using oauth redirect for logging in a person, the first canvas screenshot provided in your app settings is used as a background image behind the Login dialog. Make sure to provide a high-quality and high-resolution image to drive a much better CTR for your game.

Throne Rush: An in-game screenshot gives the player a good first impression of the game.

Monster Legends: A great background and detailed description sets great context before login. In addition, the game is only asking for permissions it really needs.

Upgrading to Login API v2 When upgrading your game to v2.x players will have the option to decline requested permissions. You need to be able to handle missing permissions in the game (e.g. no access to the player’s friend list). It is also important to offer players to grant permissions later on in the game if they show e.g. an intent to interact with friends. (Please note: all apps need to upgrade to v2 before April 30th, 2015)

Example: Plarium’s ‘Sparta: War of Empires’

Player decides to review requested permissions

Player removes the ‘friend list’ permission

After the player has shown intent to interact with friends, a dialog is shown explaining the

benefit of granting extra permissions.
