Location and Shot types We filmed our soap trailer in one of my friend’s houses. Using this location we were able to establish one of the important differences in our trailer and soaps like eastenders. The kitchen we used was quite a glamorous location. This reflected that the characters were quite wealthy. The places we used tended to be quite bright and modern. The kitchen is colour co-ordinated and the tiles are shiny, showing how expensive it would be. Also the kitchen accessories such as the pepper grinder look expensive which again emphasises they have a lot of money to spend. This contrasts with a soap like eastenders where everything seems quite cheap, and the characters are not as well off. Also the costumes of the characters reflected the age of them, with brands like jack wills etc. This creates realism for the audience, as these are brands that our target audience would wear, which makes the soap relatable.

Location and Shot types

We filmed our soap trailer in one of my friend’s houses.

Things like this modern fireplace and lighting are all part of the wealthy Mise en scene that create this atmosphere.

The lighting that was used was naturalistic. This helped the scenes to feel realistic and so the viewer felt like they were in the narratives. We also followed a convention of soaps by using the 4th wall shots, so the viewer felt like they were looking into the scene, and they were part of it. This engages the viewers with the soap.
