The process of Obtaining 146 surveys was exciting, being that the candidates were friends, students, and fellow classmates.

Community Needs Analysis

Community Need 1A correct Awareness of ED Plans and why they are so important

Students have the wrong idea of what an ED Plan is, some make it on there own terms which can work at times, but for others they tend to get lost in college.

From the students surveyed, we noticed some had never seen a counselor, but said they had an ED Plan..

Most Students are unaware of the concept of an ED Plan.

Community Need 2Awareness of EOPS, DSPS, and Learning

Communities

Awareness of programs is more likely to lead student to more opportunities and a greater chance to success.

Majority of students at LMC don’t know about the learning communities or how much support and knowledge you gain from them.

A lot of students here on campus never heard of or knew they didn’t qualify for the financial services here at LMC, more than the students who knew about them at all.

Community Need 3Students need to be able to find their

GPA

Students are under the impression that they are all doing sufficiently well in school when in reality I think the bigger issue is that they just don’t know where to find their GPA at so they estimate and make one up.

Its already a course at LMC talking about preparing students for college, its worth one credit so it’s cost effective, and students will be more aware of what their school offers. Instead of making it optional it should be mandatory

Closing Statements

We surveyed 146 LMC students mostly young African American and Latinos

College Students, New students, and continuing students need to be more aware of services and programs here at LMC

Students are Unaware of their Cumulative GPA, What a true ED plan is, and what Learning communities and EOP&S offers.

Enhance the curriculum in Counseling 32 & make it mandatory.
