• Compliance with the class rules and regulations must be maintained if the ship’s class status is not to be adversely affected. This is fundamental condition of classification.

• To ensure a ship meets these requirements, a number of class surveys – varying in scope of examination – are carried out over a period of five years. These surveys are known as the class ‘periodical surveys’.
