Greetings! How has your week been?
Questions or Concerns? This is a good time to ask me any questions
you may have about course work, software, the process we are on and so on.
Please raise your hand and ask the question in the chat window. If you have a mic connected and would like to talk to us
all, let me know!
Documenting and Tagging (check your computer) How many Macro VS.
Micro tags do you have?
Please answer in the chat window.
Framing Can anyone tell me, from this week’s reading,
what framing is?
Please raise your hand to answer and I will call on you. Let me know if you have a mic.
Framing
In sociology and communication theory, framing is a way to better understand and be able to investigate motivation.
Framing Introduced by such Communication/Sociology
theory's such as Kenneth Burke and the sociologist Erving Goffman.
Using framing analysis, we can understand the underlining beliefs, ideologies and or ethical frames used by individuals or groups to help guide action.
How do you define ideology?
Master Frames (our Macro tags) Not unlike our Meta
tags, master frames offer us framework for the larger influences in our lives.
Example -> the dark blue = our Master frames (Macro tags) and the light blue = our minor frames or micro)

How so? Where is the ideology/belief centered?

Class Question – notice addition of topic to the right:
What can we stipulate from this data?
How can a focus on everyday life, as an ideology, affect the other categories?
Now apply critical thought Questions to ask:
1) who is this person:
sex, age, education, interests, known influences – any information that might help us analyze the information in the tags.
Note: In your papers, before analyzing your data, you must offer background about your subject – you!!

Now apply critical thought Questions to ask:
1) how might this person define “everyday life,” “Life Changes,” and “Artistic Ventures”?
hint, in this case I would also look up and define pragmatism – the micro tag mentioned the most!!
Note: In your papers, before analyzing your data, you must define your Macro tags or frames!

Now apply critical thought Questions to ask:
1) Why is everyday life important to this person (are there any clues here?)
2)how do you think everyday life affects the different categories in this data scheme?

How can we back up this claim with the available data – answer in chat area:
“The subject views the moments of everyday life as being more important than special events or major life changes.”
Backing up Claims
Legitimate ways to back up your claims:
Discussing or citing how many times a tag is mentioned.
Using your graph to demonstrate trends
Using examples from your data such as individual pictures, notes or tweets to show an example of a trend in the data.
Citing your Work Author’s name [likely you].
(date). “Title of Memory.” Location of Memory. List of associated tags: ---, ---.
Example:
McCarthy, Rebecca. (3/5/2010). “George’s Mug.” in Evernote. Tags: family outing; George; macro – Everyday Life; macro-Family.
