BAGNO MILANO, BRERA / BATHROOM MILAN, BRERAIn questa realizzazione a� data a Piero Lissoni si può ammirare l’utilizzo del Lithoverde applicato ad un ambiente bagno a Milano, in zona Brera.Il materiale è utilizzato sia per creare pareti e quinte che, tramite contrasti e giustapposizioni, dialoghino con i muri di mattoni lasciati appositamente grezzi, sia come vero e proprio arredo diventando la base strutturale del lavabo. La forte corporeità di Lithoverde e la sua particolare fi nitura rigata, dovuta alla composizione a strati e alla lavorazione multimaterica, dà vita ad ambienti dalla grande personalità e dal notevole impatto visivo.The Brera district of Milan is the location for a beautiful creation by Piero Lissoni which utilizes Lithoverde in a bathroom setting. The innovative material has been employed not only to create the walls and backdrops that interplay through a series of contrasts and juxtapositions with the brick walls deliberately left raw, but also as out-and-out furnishing as the structural base for the wash-basin. The powerful corporeity of Lithoverde and its particular lined fi nish that results from the layered structure and the array of materials employed, produce environments of great character and marked visual impact.

HOUSE OF STONEHouse of Stone, presentata durante il Salone del Mobile 2010 all’interno della mostra Think Tank alla Statale di Milano, è un’installazione interamente realizzata in Lithoverde da John Pawson. Piani di pietra scura, tagliati con estrema precisione, creano una costruzione al tempo stesso lineare e accattivante che rimanda immediatamente all’immaginario infantile dell’archetipo di casa. L’aspetto rassicurante e protettivo e il senso di intimità vengono però sovvertiti dai tagli creati sui bordi e sui limiti dell’abitazione, come se i componenti della casa non si toccassero tra loro: le fessure, insieme allo squarcio nella sezione centrale, permettono alla luce del sole di entrare e creano meravigliosi e intriganti giochi cromatici fatti di ombre e luci, di materiali e superfi ci discontinue.Presented during the 2010 Milan Furniture Fair in the context of the Think Tank exhibition at the Università Statale, House of Stone is an installation created entirely from Lithoverde by John Pawson. Cut with meticulous accuracy, the planes of dark stone create a construction that is at once both straightforward and appealing and that recalls a child’s idea of an archetypal house. The reassuring and protective aspect and the sense of intimacy are, however, subverted by the cuts in the ridges and limits of the dwelling, as if the various components of the house were separated from each other: the slots, together with the gash in the central part, allow the sunlight to enter and create wonderful and intriguing plays of colour composed of light and shadow, of materials and interrupted surfaces.

Salvatori’s constant focus on research makes it one of the most groundbreaking companies in the sector. Taking up the challenge of the third millennium with the aim of achieving maximum sustainability and low environmental impact, the company has created the innovative Lithoverde.

The creation of stone materials requires the use of substantial quantities of material, and this leads to a great deal of potentially polluting waste which is very expensive to dispose of – and it is this that led to Salvatori’s determination to create a truly “green” material. “Lithoverde” – from the words for “stone” and “green” – is made precisely from this waste, which constitutes 99% of the end product. The remaining 1% is a natural resin that acts as a bonding agent. This means there is no need to quarry more material, thus avoiding the risk of altering and damaging the landscape.Lithoverde is made by selecting waste slabs in order to achieve the desired result, and then assembling them in a uniform manner prior to cutting. The process is labour-intensive but the product is completely eco-compatible and sustainable.

Lithoverde has also obtained further recognition, for it helps give buildings a higher score on the LEED® scale (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, a rating set by the U.S. Green Building Council, the international benchmark in the fi eld of architectural sustainability). LEED® rating systems establish the requirements for constructing environmentally sustainable buildings, in terms of both energy consumption and the use of all the environmental resources involved: Lithoverde contributes to the credits awarded for the use of sustainable materials, since it consists of renovated marble waste, and thus avoids the need for further quarrying.

This is an outstanding twofold success for Salvatori, which constantly works with architects, designers, and builders, o� ering top-of-the-range products and complete advisory services for the use of stone materials, as well as coming up with ideal solutions for their application. Lithoverde ha inoltre ottenuto un altro importante riconoscimento, poiché collabora a dare agli edifi ci un alto punteggio nella scala di valutazione LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design stipulato da U.S. Green Building Council punto di riferimento internazionale nel campo della sostenibilità architettonica). Gli standard LEED® indicano i requisiti per costruire edifi ci ambientalmente sostenibili, sia dal punto di vista energetico che dal punto di vista del consumo di tutte le risorse ambientali coinvolte: Lithoverde contribuisce ai crediti relativi all’uso di materiali sostenibili, grazie al fatto che si compone di scarti di marmo rinnovati evitando ulteriore estrazione di materiale.
