Displaying the Literary Elements 8-in-1

Poster Set

Before displaying the Literary Elements 8-in-1

Poster Set, make copies of this Really Good Stuff®

Activity Guide, and the reproducibles found on the

back of each Mini Poster, and file the pages for

future use. Or, download another copy of it from our

Web site at www.reallygoodstuff.com. The unique

format of this Poster allows you to display it in a

couple of ways:

• Insert the Mini Poster that you are using in your

current lesson in the center of the Main Poster

and display the other Mini Posters around it.

• Display all the Mini Posters at the same time

around the outside of the Main Poster.

You can insert your Mini Posters into the Main

Poster in two ways: Either tuck them into the slits

at each corner or into the tabs at the top and

bottom of the display area.

Creating Literary Elements

Notebooks

For each Literary Elements Notebook: Make a

single-sided copy of the Literary Elements Notebook

Reproducible 1 as well as a double-sided copy with

the Literary Elements Notebook Reproducible 2 on

one side and the Literary Elements Notebook

Reproducible 3 on the other, making sure that the

titles of the two reproducibles appear in the upper

left-hand corner. To assemble each notebook: Place

the Literary Elements Notebook Reproducible 1 with

the blank side facing up (print-side down) and its

title along the top. Set a double-sided reproducible

(on top of reproducible 1) with reproducible 3 facing

up (reproducible 2 down). Fold the two pages in half

top to bottom to make a landscape-oriented

notebook. If done correctly, the order of the content

on the pages should be as follows:

title/author/setting section, plot section,

characters section, imagery and sound section,

and theme section.

Introducing and Reinforcing Literary Elements

Utilize a variety of picture books to exemplify each of

the literary elements. Distribute the Literary

Elements Notebooks and tell students to use them

to take notes on each of the literary elements as

they find them while reading. If more than one

student is reading a particular book, use the

notebooks to inspire discussion during literature

circles, for student assessments, and as a vehicle

for conversation during student conferences.
