John Wood—Founder of Room to Read

• Used to be a staff in Microsoft and was well-paid by the company as a Senior Executive Officer

•Was born in January 1964, in Hartford, Connecticut.

•Attended the University of Colorado and was graduated with the bachelor degree from the university.

•He furthered his studies in Kellogg Graduate School of Management and obtained master in Business Administration.

John Wood— The Founder

• Used to be a staff in Microsoft and was well-paid by the company.

•Was inspired to establish the organization when he was trekking in Nepal.

•He was amazed by the warmth and enthusiasm of the less fortunate teachers and students.

•Decided to set up Room to Read for the benefits of the students in the impoverished countries.

Room to Read—Providing every kids with a chance to study

• Was founded by John Wood in 2000.

•Aim to provide books and opportunities for children to study and widen their knowledge.

•Main objective is to achieve universal education for everyone.

•To transform the life of the children and for the betterment of the world.

Impact of Room to Read

•Room to Read created a network of over 3,000 schools and libraries in rural communities in Asia and Africa.

•They developed many programmes such as Reading Room, School Room and Local Language Publishing as well as Girl’s Education. Benefiting the local children communities.

•Further enhanced the communities, by hiring local staff. Reducing the number of unemployment significantly.
