technology use will be seen through his
project on Word.
Text(s) used in the lesson: Thank You Maam by Langston Hughes, Pythons by
Lucia Rhaatma
Approximate level of text: 3rdgrade and up
Tool Selection: The computer will be used for a large portion of this class. It will be
used to look up some information online and to create the brochure on Microsoft
Word. The actual story by Langston Hughes will be crucial to a better understanding
of how to do the scales activity as well. Lastly, the non-fiction book the student is
reading will give him key information to record for his project.
Description of Instruction (should almost always include reading and writing):
- We will start this lesson by doing something a little different. We will warmup by doing a read aloud of the story Thank You Maam by Langston Hughes.
During this time the student will listen to me read aloud. After that, I will
have created some Semantic Differential Scales for the student to go through
with me. Through this, the student can express to me how well he
understood the story. This will be an activity that is different than we usually
do but it will help the student organize his thought as well as visually see the
character development through the story. After this, the student will begin to
read to me. This will be his book about snakes. He will work on his reading

and we will stop periodically to take important notes that could be used for
his project. After this is finished we will begin to use the computer to work
on his project through Microsoft Word. Here he can continue to work on
typing and becoming familiar with using these programs.
