HistoryThe 1101 steam locomotive is frequently referred to as a Scoutlocomotive. Lionel used theword Scout to denote its entry-level 027 steam locomotives. Generally speain!" Scout
en!ines had a 2-#-2 wheel arran!ement and were reserved for $e!inner or starter sets.
These locomotives had few features and could rarely pull more than a three or four car
frei!ht train.
The 1101 is an uncataloguedlocomotive from 1%#&. Scout locomotives !enerally had a
plastic $oiler" however" the 1101 is one of a few Scout's to have a die-cast $oiler. (lthou!h
it is an uncatalo!ued one-year-only item" there is little collector interest in this steamen!ine.

with silver num$ers" three position *-unit" a sin!le metal drive rod on each side" headli!ht
+without a headli!ht lens, plus an ornamental $ell and whistle. enter rail contact wasprovided $y copper slidin! shoes and not the standard roller contacts.
( 1001 non-whistlin! sheet metal tender was always included with the 1101 locomotive.

Die-cast Boiler, Numbered 11 - ( rare version num$ered 1001 was $rieflyproduced. The 1001 num$ered version should not $e confused with the re!ular production
1001. The re!ular production version of the 1001 has a plastic $oiler. This rare version hasa die-cast $oiler num$ered 1001.
HistoryThe 22 /ennsylvania GG1 *lectric diesel was the first of several GG1 diesels produced
$y Lionel in the postwar era. (t the time of its introduction in 1%#7" it was the ultimate
Lionel en!ine. esides $ein! the first postwar Lionel diesel" its heavy die-cast $ody andimpressive loos made the GG1 an immediate success.
The 22 is a smooth runnin! diesel. owever" with the lac of a!netraction and a heavy
die-cast shell" this sin!le motor diesel has limited pullin! power. Su$sequent Lionel models
of the GG1 were all equipped with dual a!netraction motors. 3evertheless" the 22 isstill a desira$le locomotive.

handlin!" it is quite common to find a GG1 with worn letterin! and5or strips on each sidenear the center. 6nits with intact letters and strips will usually command a premium.
(nother area of interest is the horn. The horn on the 22 is unlie other postwar diesel
horn. hen operatin! properly" the horn sounds lie a metal $o8 with somethin! 'rattlin!
around inside'. Lionel attempted to duplicate the real-life sound -- and to a certain de!ree it
was successfully -- however it simply sounded terri$le from a toy train point of view. Thisversion of the horn was discontinued on future GG1s.
The len!th of a GG1 electric diesel is appro8imately 1#9 lon! +coupler to coupler,.
Blac Body- :or a $rief part of the 1%#7 production run" the 22 was produced in$lac. This is a rare version to locate.
Dar 'reen Body- !ho"n in the #hoto abo$e- :or the remainder of 1%#7 and
continuin! until 1%#%" ther 22 was produced in runswic !reen. ecasue the runswic
!reen color is so dar" it is common to confuse a runswic !reen version with a $lacversion.
