tunisia, from Hope to Disillusion by Nicolas Beau
Pre-Snowden times - Viviane Reding, European Commissioner for Justice, is in charge of manoeuvering a new European law for efficient data protection and privacy through the legislative process. The law will not only affect all the European citizens but the whole economy that relies more and more on data as a major resource for bigger profits. For two years, chief negotiator Jan Philip Albrecht and his team fight against the growing pressure of industry stakeholders, diverse lobbyists and adverse political groups. Their political standing is fragile - until Snowden enters the world stage and changes the game.
On January 17th 2011, the Tunisian president Ben Ali was overthrown by a popular uprising. Arab Spring was just starting. Great hope was spreading throughout Tunisia, the only country that would know a true democratic transition in four years. But the Tunisian reality, weighed down by the crisis and insecurity, is less shiny. From Zarzis harbour to the city of Sidi-Bouzid, from Djerba island to the Algerian border, this documentary encounters those that Tunisia has forgotten.
For nearly two years, an extraordinary effective terrorist propaganda has been flooding the Internet. Through an unfailing control over social networks and the mass production of ultra-violent footage enhanced by special effects and edited like rap music videos, the ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham) terrorists have been hammering their hateful message. How did the Internet become some kind of travel agency promoting armed jihad as the ultimate destination? Who are these dreadful terrorist cyber-headhunters? Can we fight against this indoctrination machinery?

This documentary shows how Silvio Berlusconi has succumbed to a mad desire, to lease an entire country to serve his own interests. At the heart of the comedy of power and through the back alleys of money laundering, we discover how the media mogul-turned-head of government has never been reluctant to use the Mafia’s money and influence to maintain his power and consolidate his fortune.

Sinking ships, sailors imprisoned, chases at sea, illegal landings, acts of vandalism, military confrontation; incidents of this type have multiplied in the China Sea, now one of the world’s most sensitive areas. In the face of China’s growing power, neighbouring countries Japan, Vietnam, and the Philippines have been reinforcing defences to protect maritime borders and uphold sovereignty over the archipelagos they control. Yet more than territorial disputes which regularly raise tensions, it is China’s overall political ambitions that worry adjacent countries, as well as the United States.

If Switzerland is sometimes perceived as heaven on earth, the question that follows is: do its inhabitants believe in heaven? Believers, agnostics and atheists all feel the need for a narrative when confronting death. So, what is left of paradise, which once promised eternal happiness? Encountering people in the twilight of their years, this film offers a moving, offbeat and personal quest within the depictions of this place common to all of humanity, faced with hope and shared doubt.

In an invisible territory at the margins of society, at the border between anarchy and illegality, lives a wounded community that is trying to respond to a threat: of being forgotten by political institutions and having their rights as citizens trampled. Disarmed veterans, taciturn adolescents, drug addicts trying to escape addiction through love, ex-special forces soldiers still at war with the world, floundering young women and future mothers, and old people who have not lost their desire to live.

Whereas France recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of abortion legalization, the woman’s right to choose is still not guaranteed everywhere in Europe. In Ireland, abortion is punishable by a 14-year jail sentence. Every year, it is estimated that thousands of women travel to the UK to access this medical procedure. In conversation, people often say they “take the boat”. Gillian, Vanessa, Melisa, Gerard and Gaye talk about this taboo journey.

rose valland: the art spy by Brigitte Chevet
35 years after the coup d’état that overthrew her grandfather, Salvador Allende, Marcia wishes to change the family custom of not speaking about him and their tragic history. She believes it is time to recover the family memories snatched away during the coup and to unveil their intimate past buried under Allende´s political transcendence, exile and family pain. The translucent intimacy brings the viewer so close that we all become grandchildren of Allende.
As an assistant at the Jeu de Paume Museum in Paris during WWII, Rose Valland risked her life documenting the Nazis plunder of art. She then collaborated with the Monuments Men and toured Germany to find the missing art pieces. Nominated Captain Fine Arts of the French Army, she never stopped trying to “save a little of the beauty of the world”. 60,000 out of the 100,000 works of art shipped to Germany would return to France thanks to her tireless activity. Even today, her archives are crucial for the restitution of art pieces to their owners, mostly descendants of the Jewish families who were dispossessed during the war.

How does a politician - assassinated some 35 years ago - gradually become a world-famous image? It recently served as figurehead for the Arab Spring revolutions whereas we had thought it had been relegated to t-shirts and cigarette lighters. Why has this image become so universal that we are no longer surprised to find it in drawings, graffiti, tattoos and prints on all types of media in all sorts of contexts all over the world? This documentary is a journey to investigate and decode what is the formula that made this figure go viral.

paco de lucia, a journey by Francisco Sánchez Varela
Gustave Courbet is one of the most important French painters of the XIXth century. This enfant terrible is full of contradictions and can be as endearing as annoying. Filmed in Paris, his Ornans native city and Switzerland – where he spent his last days in exile, this piece aims to better understand the paintings of this precursor of modern art by getting to know the human being itself. Archives and interviews with psychoanalysts and doctors will shed a new light, on the painter’s work. Gustave Courbet never ceases to amaze us!
A lively chronicle of the career of the brilliant Andalusian guitarist Paco de Lucía. All the way from the first time the penniless young Paco picked up a guitar in his birth city of Algeciras to the creation of his final album Canción Andaluza, the film covers a lifelong journey of musical discovery and how Paco de Lucía conquered the world by pushing the boundaries of traditional flamenco.
After touring the world for 50 years, the Scorpions decided it was time to say goodbye to their rock star lifestyle and to embark on their last music tour. Once young music fans in Hannover, they have now become adult men, fondly reminiscing on their past but living in the moment, enjoying their close relationship with their fans, their long-time crew and, last but not least, with each other. Forever and a Day is the portrait of a life long journey, a declaration of love to music.

true to type! by Thomas Sipp & Mariannick Bellot
Every day, out in the street, at the office or in our homes, we are confronted with thousands of letters in different typefaces. We read them, we write them, we send them. Times, Futura, Helvetica, Mistral, Bodoni, Garamond and so on; these “types” are familiar strangers we rub shoulders with every day without knowing it. This series shows how each one has its roots in the changes in printing techniques, the arts, the mass communication and advertising of its time. It presents the often eccentric and obsessive personalities of their creators - sculptors, painters, historians and typographers - who devoted years of their lives to designing characters, some of which would outlive them by many centuries.

dynamic salt by Jérôme-Cécil Auffret
this is comedy by Jacky Goldberg
Could we get all our energy needs from sea water and the salt it contains? Are we to witness a time when salt will power our engines and factories, and light up our cities? Could this be the final curtain not only for shale gas and oil, but also the burning of fossil fuels and the beginning of a gentler form of energy that is definitely renewable? This documentary explores the latest research on sea water and the way scientists allover the world are working on “Blue Energy”. This research could bring about a major change in our time...
For the past fifteen years, Hollywood comedy has been at its most creative. One man embodies this boom: Judd Apatow, the indisputable leader of an unofficial troupe of actors, comedians, writers and directors, whose signature mix of raunchy humor and anxiously confessional stories is adored by the public and celebrated by the press.

Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, Lebron James… Nowadays, the most fashionable heroes of pop culture are black men. Their love of style is not only a status symbol or a vapid superficial trend, it is rooted in a deep American cultural history, as flamboyant as it is political, that of Black Dandyism. This movement recalls more than a century of cultural adventures, at the crossroads of fashion, arts and major social issues.

Rock star chefs, trendy foodies and gastronomy lovers… They have taken over the food on our plates. This is the story of a generation radically changing the notion we have of gastronomy - lighter, more fun, spicy and sometimes surprising. The story of a change in attitudes, sudden and radical, which made a practice still considered as bourgeois and stuffy, a glamorous and desirable movement. From Paris to Copenhagen, from avant-garde restaurants to street food festivals, the New Foodies are at the forefront of a broader awareness of the importance of “healthy” food, in every sense of the word.
Despite being in close contact with it every day, we don’t know much about its origins or the reason for its explosion into pop culture... The status of the simple t-shirt has passed from mere knit, to personalized banner and creative outlet... 50 years were enough for it to rise to the important and envied rank of worldwide best seller and most worn item of clothing. 50 years and a few tens of hundreds of thousands of millions of samples later, the t-shirt fully deserves to be the star of its own film; one that will pique our curiosity and allow us to approach the t-shirt with humour, openness, and a critical eye!
The third millennium will be that of mass tourism. International travel increases over 10% each year and goes hand in hand with a mushrooming middle class. The tourist count will soon exceed the population of China. Statistical projections show 1.6 billion travelers in 2020. The four corners of the earth have now been completely covered and all destinations are within reach by plane. Tourism hotspots are saturated. A “different place” has become commonplace. More than the destination, what’s important today is the unique experience one has had, and the telling of it.

donkey tales by Jérôme-Cécil Auffret
Avi Mograbi goes to meet African asylum-seekers in a camp in the middle of the Neguev desert where they are confined by the state of Israel. Together, they question the status of the refugees in Israel using ‘Theater of the Opressed’ techniques. Is their tragic story any different from the one of Mograbi’s grandmother who fled the Nazis? What leads men and women to leave everything behind and go towards the unknown? Why does Israel, land of the refugees, refuse to take into consideration the situation of the exiled, thrown onto the roads by war, misery and abuses? Could theater create a bridge between people? Can theater become a player in social change?
The film tells us the surprisingly unreleased story of a humble, discreet and little known animal even though it is very close to humans: the domestic donkey. This amazing enquiry leads us to Egypt where the first donkeys where domesticated 5000 years ago. When the Romans took over, they discovered the immense qualities of this powerful and courageous animal and brought him with them in the conquest of the world. Since that time, donkey has spread all over the planet.

hissène habré, a chadian tragedy by Haroun Mahamat Saleh
respect the dj: the french touch experience by Julian Starke
Habré’s arrest in Sénégal, in 2013, was a decisive breakthrough in a 23-year struggle pitting the ex-tyrant against survivors. The documentary will give voice to the victims who have shown that, with courage and obstinacy, it is possible to bring a dictator to justice. They want justice making sure that those who committed crimes do not go unpunished. It’s a universal story which aims at putting words on untold stories marked in victims’ skin, who still wonder how it is still possible to live after having been through monstrous events. The judgment due for summer 2015 will be a Historical moment for African justice. It’s a film also about Africa and its relationship with the rest of the world...
Respect the DJ gives life back to the French Touch’s greatest moments, from the 90s until now. It is the story of artists who created a music style which has achieved tremendous success around the world: Laurent Garnier, Bob Sinclar, Dimitri from Paris, Cassius, Modjo, Justice, David Guetta and of course Daft Punk. The French Touch has thus been instrumental in the public recognition of electronic music in general and continues to inspire new artists worldwide. French Touch is the symbol of a handover between the X, Y and Z generations, between those who were in their twenties during the 90s and the “Digital Natives”.
