What a fantastic 11 th Annual LLDSS Golf outing we had last month. The weather was perfect and I am happy to say that we had more volunteers this year than any previous year. Nearly 120 golfers showed up to support our event, and we even made the news! It is estimated that well over $5,000 in door prizes was donated to us, and I am very excited to announce that we raised more than our goal of $8000.00. After all invoices and such, it would appear that we raised just under $10,000! As you recall, the board voted back in March to use the funds for Sparc’s Kamp Kaleidoscope. For those of you unfamiliar with it, Kamp Kaleidoscope is a summer program that provides individuals with developmental disabilities, from the ages of 4- 22, the opportunity to experience summer camp in a safe, secure setting. Unfortunately, the funds that historically have been available for this camp were eliminated in the State budget. Sparc recognizes the importance of providing meaningful summer activities for individuals with disabilities as well as offering a camp like setting that will prevent summer learning loss while having fun at the same time. 7 LLDSS members attend Kamp Kaleidoscope that began on June 6 th . So far reports have been that it is a huge success! Thank you LLDSS for continuing to help make our community a better place for persons with disabilities and developmental differences. I often get compliments from organizations like ours in the Springfield area that appreciate all the volunteerism and support that we offer. I sincerely hope your families are having a fantastic summer! Very Kindly, Jared Owen 217-899-1718 [email protected] News and Noteworthy Think about all the times we have found ourselves saying “NO” to our children, perhaps repetitively for the same undesired action...sounds familiar right. Raising a child that has a developmental difference means that they may interpret this expression of ours differently than a typically developing child. It could even affect their academic and social experiences in life. For this reason, the LLDSS recently hosted the St. Louis Learning Program Behavior Course in Springfield on June 25th. As you may remember, the St. Louis Learning Program is a specialized program designed for people with Down
