Lineage of the Prophet – The selected elite

The Prophet's lineage was the most virtuous and noble.

“The Prophet has come to you from yourself” Ibn Abbas and Zuhri would say the Prophet's lineage to Adam was a clean and virtuous lineage.

When the Roman emperor asked Abu Sufyan about the family lineage, he asked “What is his family's status amongst you? Sufyan replied, “He from a prominent famous lineage Hafiz Ibn Hajjar says sufyan replied, He is from a noble tribe that nobody surpasses him. The emperor replied, “this is also a symbol of Prophet hood”

Is the lineage proven from Hadith?

The lineage proven from Hadith?

Lineage of the Prophet to Adnan is proven by the Prophet himself. However, some have drawn the lineage to Ismail & Adam.

All the genealogists accept the lineage to Adnan but to Ismail and Adam there is not authentic report. Although Hafiz Ibn Hajar has recorded it in his book Fathul Bari with another eight chains to Ibrahim.

As Abdullah ibn Abbas narrates whenever the Prophet would talk about the ancestor he would not mention beyond Adnan, he would stop and say the genealogists have erred.

This period is known as 'fatrah' period in which no warner came onto the people such as the time between Isa and the Prophet. Approximately 600 year gap.

So will the people of fitrah be hold to account on the day of judgement?

Early Maturidis: Yes they will be hold to account

Asharis & Later maturidis: No, they will not be held to account.

From the time of Adam some people stayed monotheistic, that’s the reason the World stayed functioning. Hence these people would have been from the Hunafa/Millat Ibrahim

Ahmed ibn Muhammed Al Maliki: The entire ancestry were noble and believers because prophet said, “I was carried from the loins of pure men into the wombs of pure women”.

Parents of the ProphetMajority of greatest scholars believe they were believers. Majority of the

scholars, also held the view of no comment.

Suyuti mentioned wrote extensively about the survival of the prophets parents from the fire.

Reported by Imam Qurtubi, tafsir qurstubi 2/408, Imam suyuti in Masalik al Hanfa'li and by Bajuri. This incident is mentioned by Suyuti in three of his works.

Abu Bakr ibn Arabi al Maliki was asked whether the Prophet's parents were in hell fire, he responded , may curse be upon that person as Allah says whoever abuses Allah and his messenger allah's curse is on them and in the hereafter. He has prepared a humiliating punishment for him.

Story about the daughter of Abu Lahab, Subay'a. People say I am the daughter

of firewood for the fire. Prophet said who are those people who harm me through my relations.

Qadi Iyad said majority of the scholars are of the opinion that prophet parents were believers
