S 1 Dear Lord and Father of mankind, Forgive our foolish ways! Re-clothe us in our rightful mind, In purer lives thy service find, In deeper reverence praise.

In simple trust like theirs who heard, Beside the Syrian sea, The gracious calling of the Lord, Let us, like them, without a word Rise up and follow thee.

Drop thy still dews of quietness, Till all our strivings cease; Take from our souls the strain and stress, And let our ordered lives confess The beauty of thy peace.

Breathe through the heats of our desire Thy coolness and Thy balm; Let sense be dumb, let flesh retire; Speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire, O still small voice of calm!

S2 O Worship the King

All-glorious above; O gratefully sing His power and his love; Our Shield and Defender, The Ancient of days, Pavillion’d in splendour, And girded with praise.

O tell of his might, O sing of his grace, Whose robe is the light, Whose canopy space; His chariots of wrath The deep thunder-clouds form, And dark is his path On the wings of the storm.

O measureless Might, Ineffable Love, While angels delight To hymn thee above,

S 3 Immortal, invisible, God only wise, In light inaccessible hid from our eyes, Most blessèd, most glorious, the Ancient of Days, Almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.

Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light, Nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might; Thy justice like mountains high soaring above, Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.

To all life thou givest, to both great and small; In all life thou livest, the true life of all; We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree, And wither and perish; but nought changeth thee.

Great Father of glory, pure Father of light, Thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight; All laud we would render: O help us to see Tis only the splendour of light hideth thee.

S4 Hark! the herald-angels sing

Glory to the new-born King, Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled. Joyful, all ye nations, rise, Join the triumph of the skies; With the angelic host proclaim, ‘Christ is born in Bethlehem’ Hark! The herald-angels sing Glory to the new-born King,

Christ by highest heaven adored, Christ, the everlasting Lord, Late in time behold him come, Offspring of the Virgin’s womb. Veiled in flesh the Godhead see! Hail, the incarnate Deity! Pleased as Man with man to dwell, Jesus, our Emmanuel: Hark! The herald-angels sing Glory to the new-born King,

Hail, the heaven-born Prince of peace! Hail, the Sun of Righteousness! Light and life to all he brings, Risen with healing in his wings. Mild he lays his glory by, Born that man no more may die, Born to raise the sons of earth, Born to give them second birth: Hark! The herald-angels sing Glory to the new-born King,

S 5 And did those feet in ancient time Walk upon England’s mountains green? And was the holy Lamb of God On England’s pleasant pastures seen? And did the countenance divine Shine forth upon our clouded hills? And was Jerusalem builded here Among those dark satanic mills?

Bring me my bow of burning gold! Bring me my arrows of desire! Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold! Bring me my chariot of fire! I will not cease from mental fight, Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand, Till we have built Jerusalem In England’s green and pleasant land.

S6 Praise my soul the King of heaven;

To his feet thy tribute bring. Ransom’d, heal’d, restor’d, forgiven, Who like me his praise should sing? Praise him! Praise him! Praise the everlasting King.

Praise him for his grace and favour To our fathers in distress; Praise him still the same for ever, Slow to chide, and swift to bless. Praise him! Praise him! Glorious in his faithfulness.

Father-like, he tends and spares us; Well our feeble frame he knows; In his hands he gently bears us, Rescues us from all our foes. Praise him! Praise him! Widely as his mercy flows.

Angels, help us to adore him; Ye behold him face to face; Sun and moon, bow down before him, Dwellers all in time and space. Praise him! Praise him! Praise with us the God of grace.

S 7 I danced in the morning When the world was begun, And I danced in the moon And the stars and the sun, And I came down from heaven And I danced on the earth, At Bethlehem I had my birth.

Dance, then, wherever you may be, I am the Lord of the Dance, said he, And I’ll lead you all, wherever you may be, And I’ll lead you all in the Dance, said he

I danced for the scribe And the pharisee, But they would not dance And they wouldn’t follow me. I danced for the fishermen, For James and John - They came with me And the Dance went on.

Dance, then, wherever you may be, I am the Lord of the Dance, said he, And I’ll lead you all, wherever you may be, And I’ll lead you all in the Dance, said he

I danced on the Sabbath And I cured the lame; The holy people Said it was a shame. They whipped and they stripped And they hung me on high, And they left me there On the cross to die

S Dance, then, wherever you may be,

I am the Lord of the Dance, said he, And I’ll lead you all, wherever you may be, And I’ll lead you all in the Dance, said he

I danced on a Friday When the sky turned black - It’s hard to dance With the devil on your back. They buried my body And they thought I’d gone, But I am the Dance, And I still go on.

Dance, then, wherever you may be, I am the Lord of the Dance, said he, And I’ll lead you all, wherever you may be, And I’ll lead you all in the Dance, said he

They cut me down And I leapt up high; I am the life That’ll never, never die; I’ll live in you If you’ll live in me - I am Lord Of the Dance, said he.

8 Who would true valour see, Let him come hither; One here will constant be, Come wind, come weather; There’s no discouragement Shall make him once relent His first avowed intent To be a pilgrim.

Who so beset him round With dismal stories Do but themselves confound; His strength the more is. No lion can him fright; He’ll with a giant fight; But he will have a right To be a pilgrim.

Hobgoblin nor foul fiend Can daunt his spirit; He knows he at the end Shall life inherit. Then fancies fly away, He’ll fear not what men say; He’ll labour night and day To be a pilgrim.

A Few Good Men

By Aaron Sorkin

Thursday 15 – Saturday 17 March 20187.30pm, Performing Arts Centre

Tickets: £8, Concessions £4

For more details and information on how to book, please visit www.whitgift.co.uk/events

This amateur production of ‘A Few Good Men’ is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, LTD.

Son, we live in a world that has walls, and

those walls have to be guarded by men with

guns. Who’s gonna do it? You? You, Lt. I

have a responsibility than you could

possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines.

You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing that

death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while

grotesque and incomprehensible to you, ‘saves lives’. You don’t want

t he truth because deep down in places you don’t talk about at

at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall.

We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as

the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as

a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain

myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very

freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which

I provide it! I would rather you just said “thank you” and went on yo

I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I what

what you think you are entitled to!
