Leisure Philosophy
If I were to describe leisure, I would say that it is to take part in an activity that you enjoy
in your free time. You don’t always have to experience “flow” with these activities either. It is
just something that you like doing. The purpose of leisure is to have complete satisfaction and to
have, your definition of, fun in the activity that you are taking part in.
Leisure is very important in my life because it is seen throughout my everyday life. I am
always doing something leisurely. I practice my leisure activities by hanging out with my
friends. When I hang with my friends I am being socially active and I feel like I am willing to try
new things more. I also do this by at least working out 5 times a week. When I go to work I find
a peace of mind and I have time that I can just relax and forget about my day. By doing these
things I feel like I am doing something leisurely and being active.
Usually what motivates me to do these kinds of leisure activities is that I like to be active
and to be doing something productive. Another reason would be that I like being around people
when I participate in these activities. So for example, when I go to the gym with my friends, I am
being social and being active at the same time. One of the metaphors for leisure that I feel appeal
to me is, “I am running nut”. This is a good example because, thought I am not a physical “nut” I
am crazy about running and love to do it in my spare time. Another example of a metaphor for
me would be, “My friends are lunes”. This is also a good example because they are not actual
“lunes” but just crazy people. So as you can see leisure is a big and important part throughout my
life.
