On another note, Dr. Rapley made the effort to let me know what a phenomenal job the OR and anesthesia staff did on a Friday night recently. Core Values:

Dear LSMC Family,

It feels like spring is in the air and after that big blast of winter last month, I bet you are as ready as I am to see tulips blooming and trees budding!

Lee’s Summit Medical Center is a busy place. Each and every employee and physician has gone above and beyond this year. We all know that’s what it takes to achieve superior quality and patient satisfaction scores. Thank you for maintaining your commitment to patients and families!

It’s an honor to be able to report that in 2013 we are off to a good start in our pillar areas of people, service, growth, quality and finance. In January, we saw a record high number of patients brought to us by EMS professionals; in February, our core measures were still at 100%; and currently our patient satisfaction scores put us in the #2 place in our division and #6 among 135 HCA hospitals in the nation. We also finished last year with an 88% increase in new patients to our primary care physicians, including the new patients seen by Dr. Sneed and our three certified nurse midwives.

The sequester and Medicare reductions are posing their challenges in the health care world but by thinking about every way to gain efficiency and reduce cost, we’ll remain competitive.

This week we hosted a visit from “surprise” state surveyors based on a hospital survey model Missouri has added this year. We learned there are areas where we really shine and there are some opportunities for improvement. In line with our mission, we need to continually look for ways to improve. Listening and learning with these surveyors helps us make even more solid plans to continually improve. Your director or manager will share more with you soon.

On another note, Dr. Rapley made the effort to let me know what a phenomenal job the OR and anesthesia staff did on a Friday night recently. He said they did an unbelievable job and went above and beyond!

Let’s keep up the great work!

Sincerely,

Jackie DeSouzaPresident and CEO

Great Save AwardJohnson County paramedics and Lee’s Summit Medical Center

work together to save lives!

When 30-year old Chris Meyer from Knob Noster, MO had heart attack symptoms and his mother called 911, Johnson County, MO paramedics Patrick Lucito and Jesse Krogull acted fast and took Chris to Lee’s Summit Medical Center. Chris honored Jesse and Pat for getting him to emergency care where a team of professionals saved his life, with door to balloon time of 38 minutes.

We hosted a “Great Save Award” presentation to honor the EMS providers and the LSMC team who cared for Chris.

Many of you have met Lindsey Reed, the new manager of our Oncology Clinic. Lindsey is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the oncology clinic and our pain management services located on the second floor of our medical office building. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Rockhurst University and Research College of Nursing. Lindsey worked at Research Medical Center for eight years before joining the Lee’s Summit Medical Center team.

Welcome Lindsey Reed

Faye Peterson was one of 21 individuals honored as Ingram’s 2013 “Heroes in Healthcare.”

In the 40 years she has been a phlebotomist at LSMC, she has become a favorite among patients—well-known not just for her ready smile and refined sense of humor, but for her deft touch with the needle. In addition to making the rounds for morning blood draws, she’s

called on to do outpatient blood draws—and often is asked for by name when repeat patients come in.

Employees who work closely with Faye credit her with being unfailingly positive and committed, with exhibiting LSMC’s core values in her daily work and with always having a kind word or message of encouragement for her colleagues. Compassion can be exhibited with an act as simple as remembering the name of a patient, and Faye has a reputation not only for that, but for details about their lives as well. Congratulations Faye!

Lee’s Summit Medical Center’s “Hero in Healthcare”

Happy Doctors’ DayFriday, March 29

In appreciation of their dedication and service, physicians at Lee’s Summit Medical Center are invited to enjoy made-to-order omlets and be acknowledged as we make a donation on behalf of the Lee’s Summit Medical Center medical staff. The breakfast will be held from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the LSMC Arbor Room.

Why an employee survey?

You have a lot of responsibility when you take care of patients or support those who take care of patients. LSMC is committed to providing you the resources necessary to do your job. You always have a say in what is going on and this is your chance to tell LSMC what it’s like to work here. We will listen and make changes based on your responses. Please help us learn more about what motivates you about your job.

“When employees love coming to work, the sky is the limit,” is what CEO Jackie DeSouza said at her first LSMC employee town hall meeting. Jackie wants everyone to love coming to work!

When is the survey? All employees should plan to take the survey between May 1 and May 31. Please encourage one another to participate when the time comes! LSMC’s goal is 100 percent participation so please begin to think about answering the questions truthfully and constructively. More details about taking the survey will be shared with you soon!

Employee Engagement Survey Coming Soon, May 1 - 31
