Use System Thinking to Develop a Strategic IQ Audit 제목

Similar to the Baldrige Quality criteria for performance excellence, a Strategic IQ is the criteria for an organization’s strategic excellence; it predicts the overall success of an organization’s long-term strategic direction. A Strategic IQ audit is based on the Systems Thinking approach, and can be used for business units, divisions, and major organization functions—as has been done in numerous international locations. This session will describe the Strategic IQ audit and the vital and varied roles that HRD professionals can play in using this concept to further strategic thinking, planning, and acting. Most organizations have an annual financial audit and evaluation; all organizations also should have an annual strategic audit to determine their strategic IQ.

개요

Develop a better business acumen around Strategic IQ. Perform a Strategic IQ audit of your organization, business function, or division. Create measurable impact and enhanced business results using a Strategic IQ audit.

Corporate Universities Aren’t Easy: Cleaning Up After You’ve Stepped Into It 제목

For more than a decade, global enterprises have sought to have their learning functions run more like a business. Whether or not these transformed functions rise to the level of a CLO-driven corporate university, the drive for greater accountability is likely to be fraught with unrealistic expectations, miscommunication, and challenges from political adversaries. In this session, the speaker will recount Raytheon’s journey during the past seven years in establishing a corporate university for its 80,000 employees around the world. He will offer a candid assessment about things Raytheon did well, as well as those that the company would do differently, if starting over. While incorporating feedback from business partners within Raytheon, he also will touch on issues related to outsourcing, creating strategic learning institutes, establishing a learning governance council, and consolidating more than 20 learning management systems into one. You will learn where to tread—and where not to tread—when improving your own learning function.

개요

Respond proactively to challenges to transforming the learning functions in your organization. Enhance the reputation—and ultimately the potential for success—of these learning functions.

Top Management Support Predicts Training Success 제목

Today, more than ever, top management demands that training supports the organization’s business objectives and strategies. To achieve this, an organization must focus on delivering training through a deliberate process that supports sustainability. The speakers in this session, through client-centered research, have discovered five critical success factors to deliver training that provides tangible value and results in productivity and profitability. They will present these five success factors with a special emphasis on the most critical and difficult to achieve: top management support. They will present a powerful and compelling framework to engage the most difficult and doubting senior executives because there is no doubt that top management support increases training impact.

The Changing Role of the Trainer 제목

Research from both sides of the Atlantic suggests that the role of the trainer is undergoing significant change. For ASTD, the preferred term is ‘workplace learning and performance professional.' In the UK, the professional body has argued that a shift is taking place from training to learning. What is beyond dispute is that the traditional training model (identify needs, design and deliver training, then evaluate) no longer provides an appropriate framework for the way training professionals approach their work. In this session, the results of ongoing UK research will be presented and supported by case study illustrations of emerging best practices. These will be contrasted with U.S. case studies and current practices. The implications on the skill sets required will be discussed and you will be invited to reflect on your own readiness to meet the new challenges facing the profession.

개요

Create a model of training that goes beyond training as intervention. Assess the forward path for the profession and its relevance to your circumstances and aspirations. Identify the skills that you will need to develop and advance in the new climate.

Get Them Talking: Linking the Balance Scorecard With Learning Strategy 제목

The balance scorecard is increasingly the strategic business tool of choice for many organizations. The primary objective of the BSC is to link the organization’s strategic objectives and direction to tangible measures that encompass four strategically focused areas. One of the four components that often is misunderstood, underutilized, and ineffectively applied is “learning and growth." The BSC is an opportunity for the senior management and those with the responsibility for organizational learning and performance to communicate through a common language, establish realistic tangible measures and targets, and attain the ultimate goal: the organization's strategic objectives. With the growing importance for training to be accountable within the organization (business impact and ROI), having management apply the learning and growth component, and the need for learning professionals to possess a clear understanding for business, it is clear that the BSC will play an ever-increasing role in the future.

개요

Develop tangible measures for learning and growth within the balanced scorecard. Communicate to management expected results. Build a common business and learning strategy to meet strategic objectives.

Creating the Profession: A Dialogue About Our Future 제목

HR evolved over several years into a recognized profession. Workplace learning and performance is trying to do that now—and the work of the ASTD competency study and certification process is setting the foundation. What criteria does the U.S. Department of Labor use to determine a profession? What does it mean to be a profession? How can we further the profession and help make that transformation to a recognized and valued organization partner? And what will be the benefit to you personally, as well as to your organization? Engage in this participative dialogue as we look at these issues from various perspectives.

개요

Clearly state what Workplace Learning and Performance is and why it's important. Consider the business advantages of having WLP recognized as a profession. Demonstrate the value of WLP with organizational leaders. Use change management and other OD processes to create support from practitioners to move the profession forward.

View From CLO: Closing the Gap 제목

In his opening keynote address at the 2005 ASTD International Conference and Exposition, Tony Bingham, CEO of ASTD said "According to the Employment Policy Foundation, there will be four million more jobs than workers by 2011. That gap will get bigger for many years after that. By 2030, there could be 35 million unfilled jobs. Here’s another startling calculation. Take the U.S. May 2005 unemployment rate of 5.1 percent against a work pool of approximately 148 million people—that leaves 7.5 million people unemployed today—and, still there are millions of unfilled jobs. Imagine how bad this number is if we consider worldwide data. Why? A lack of skilled employees to fill those jobs. It is critical that our profession recognize and begin to address the skills gap." Inspired by Tony's words, two of the speakers decided to take the bold step of relocating to Hyderabad, India. As learning professionals, we have two choices: wait for the future to play out or change it. We invite you to join this session for a series of interactive exercises that will use learning maps to begin the dialog on how we, the learning leaders from around the world, can come together to change the future.

개요

Expand your perceptions of the knowledge gap. Assess your company’s readiness. Develop and implement solutions.

Create Sales Academies in Multinational Companies 제목

Ensure your sales training aligns with your key business strategies by creating a sales academy that drives sales teams and managers to deliver results. The pillars that sustain the architecture of a sales academy include: an academy based on the business unit’s Balanced Score Card; individual development paths for each member of the sales force; blended training and development activities; a credit system that is linked with each step of the path toward certification of associates; a design and measurement process that is supported by business indicators. Sales academies are more than a strategy that improves business results in terms of revenue. They increase loyalty from sales teams, decrease employee turnover, and improve motivation. Sales academies also become a best-practice forum for sales and marketing strategies, and provide knowledge and procedures to sales teams and managers.
