INSTRUCTIONS FOR TEST ADMINISTRATORS

SCOPE. These achievement tests are used at squadron level to evaluate cadets’ knowledge of leadership during Phases I and II of the CAP Cadet Program.

MASTER BOOKLET. This master booklet contains 8 tests (with 2 versions each) and answer keys. Cadets work from only one test at a time, and only test administrators need access to the answer keys. Therefore, we recommend you make a reasonable number of copies of each test, and have cadets work from those copies.

SECURITY. This test booklet and all copies you make must be inventoried, safeguarded, and administered in accordance with CAPR 50-4, Test Administration and Security.

TEST CONDITIONS. Each of these tests is conducted open-book. Cadets must complete their test during a single testing session, with a 30-minute time limit. Before allowing cadets to begin their tests, review the test instructions with them.

SOURCE MATERIAL. Questions are derived from Learn to Lead, volumes 1 and 2. All 8 tests include a drill and ceremonies performance test, which is derived from the CAP Drill and Ceremonies Manual (AFMAN 36-2203).

SCORING PROCEDURE. All tests include a multiple-choice test and a drill test. The passing score for the multiple-choice test is 80% (cadets must answer 20 questions correctly to pass). Administer and grade this portion first, before proceeding on to any drill performance tests. See CAPT 78-2 for drill tests and scoring procedures.

ANSWER KEY. The answer key includes objective references for the leadership textbooks. If you notice an error in this test, please inform HQ CAP/CP. For contact information, please see the “Contact Us” page at capmembers.com/cadets.

DEBRIEFING.

IF THE CADET PASSES THE TEST, allow him to correct it to 100%, open-book, with the help of a mentor.

IF THE CADET FAILS THE TEST, let him know which objectives to study (by referencing the answer key), but do NOT discuss answers to specific test questions. If possible, assign the cadet a mentor to help the cadet study.

FOR DRILL & CEREMONIES TESTS, shortly after administering the drill portion, have a knowledgeable cadet or senior member work with the cadet on any areas of difficulty.

RE-TESTS. There is no limit to the number of times a cadet may retake the exam. However, a test and retest may NOT occur on the same date. Two versions of each multiple-choice test (A and B) are available for re-testing purposes. If a cadet passes the multiple-choice portion, but fails the drill portion, he or she need only re-take the drill portion.
