Wedging Clay Wedging is a process in which you prepare clay for working. If you do not wedge clay it will have an uneven texture which makes it hard to work with and it could also develop problems when it is fired.

Texturing Clay Texture can be added using carving tools. It creates a realistic look when texturing animals but also looks attractive on other objects

Scratch and Slip Method

Scratch and Slip Method is used when joining clay in it’s leather hard form. You scratch the surface where you want to make your join and apply slip (muddy

clay) to help stick the two pieces together

Modelling Tools Modelling tools are needed to carve, texture and shape clay. You can either buy them from your local hardware store or you can simply make your own by carving and shaping wood or even using plastic utensils. Once your clay has hardened and dried its easier to use metal tools as it cuts better.

Carving Clay Clay can be carved using modelling tools. It creates a 3D effect. You can create detailed designs that have depth and perception.
