Dog Days
of Summer
T his summer is looking to be a hot one. We’ve already had several days above 90°. Remember to stay hydrated.
Our pets need that extra hydration just as much as we do. When you sit down with a nice glass of ice water, make sure to get them one too.
Watch out for hot sidewalks, as pets can be sensitive to the heat.

Independence Day
Barbeque for Residents
Friday July 3 Noon Meal
Dining Rooms
We’ll be celebrating Independence Day
with a barbeque lunch treat at Garnett.
This year will look a little different than
previous years. Here’s the plan:
Friday July 3rd
For the noon meal we’ll have the grill out
in the parking lot. We’ll have the picnic up
in the dining rooms so you won’t even
need to pack your sunscreen. The door will
be open if you want to go out on the deck
and watch Jeremy grill up your creation,
or to soak up the scent. Staff will be invited
to partake in the picnic will you. We have
some other fun and festive surprises
planned, so keep an eye out on those girls
in activities. You’ll never know what we’re
going to get up to! Here’s to having a
wonderful 4th of July with our Garnett
Family.

Staying (Virtually) Connected
Did you know that Garnett Place has a Facebook
page? Visit us at
Facebook.com/Garnettplace
Families can get up to date information about what is
happening in our community. We’ll post photos,
videos, upcoming events and more. It’s a great way to
stay virtually in touch.
Speaking of which, if you’re interested in setting up a
video phone call with your family, please let one of the
coordinators know. We’ll be happy to organize a time
with you and your loved one so you can chat and see
each other through video. We can use Facebook,
Skype, or Facetime to provide video messaging.
We love being able to stay in touch with you and your
family. Don’t forget to share the LifeShare program
with your loved ones. It’s another great opportunity
keep updated on what’s happening. They just need to
download the app on their smartphone.
As we begin the month of July, we wanted to once again thank each of our residents,
staff, and family members for your support during this time. Thanks to the compromises
and efforts you are making, residents at Garnett Place continue to remain healthy and
safe.
We realize that you are eager to see your loved ones, and we appreciate your patience as
we continue to monitor the ever-changing COVID-19 situation. Though we have elected
to open our dining rooms and resume small group activities with social distancing, we
are not yet to the point where we can open the community to visitors.
Under new requirements from the Iowa Public Health Department and Senior Housing
Management, we will not be able to open Garnett Place to visitors until each of the
following is applicable to our community:
1. 14 days past the last staff or resident positive.
2. Community wide testing.
3. A 14 day decline overall in positive COVID cases in Linn county.
Throughout this difficult time, our goal is to keep you informed and reassured of our
efforts to keep everyone at Garnett Place safe and healthy. If you have any questions or
concerns regarding the policies we have implemented, please call Ambika Sharma,
Community Manager, at (319) 929-6894.
We continue to encourage family members to arrange video calls through skype,
facetime, and Facebook messenger. Please give us a call, and we can get you in touch
with your loved one. Families are still welcome to drop off groceries, letters, and
personal items at the front entrance. Our staff will then disinfect and deliver those items
to residents.
Thank you again for your continued support and understanding.

Small Group Activities
W e’re welcoming back small group activities!
Right now to keep safe and healthy, we are only
doing small groups. We’re keeping the two
buildings separate for the time being. Activities
will be happening in both sides throughout the week. All
supplies and activity rooms get thoroughly cleaned after each
program. We’re so glad to be back together again. Make sure
you bring your mask with you when you come to programs.

Surprises
E layne is our Ding A Ling Bell Choir Director, and her
birthday was this week. Mr. & Mrs. Weigel wanted to
do something special to thank her. She put together a
big sign with birthday notes from everyone in the
choir. Elayne was quite surprised with her special birthday
sign. Thank you Jeane for making it such a special
birthday for Elayne.
