Awards & Scholarships
Law School Book Award
At each campus, the student in each class year with the highest cumulative grade point
average as of the end of the preceding academic year will receive a book scholarship of
$500 from the Colleges.
Alumni Scholarship Fund
Two $250 scholarships are awarded to fourth year students based on academic standing.
McMahon Justice Scholarship
Honoring the memory of the late Patrick L. McMahon, Judge of the Santa Barbara
Superior Court, this scholarship was established by a private benefactor. Students who
are sworn peace officers or work in fields related to law enforcement may apply.
Legal Community Scholarships
Scholarships are offered to law students by local legal organizations, including the
Ventura County Mexican American Bar Association, Ventura County Asian American
Bar Association, Santa Barbara Women Lawyers, and Delta Theta Phi law fraternity.
Each year the Foundation of the State Bar of California offers scholarships to law
students, in amounts up to $7,500. Preference is given to those who have completed the
first year with at least a 2.5 GPA and have demonstrated a commitment to public service.
Local Community Scholarships
The Ventura Center for Dispute Settlement awards two scholarships to its annual four-
day negotiation and dispute resolution seminar to students of the Colleges. Other
community organizations also provide scholarships for which the Colleges' students may
be eligible, including the Santa Barbara Foundation, Santa Barbara Scholarship
Foundation, Ventura CPA/Law Society, and Ventura County Community Foundation,
which administers the Sara Moody Scholarship Fund and Roy A. Gustafson Memorial
Scholarship Fund.
Legal Publisher's Awards
The Witkin Institute presents certificates to the top-ranked student in qualifying courses
in recognition of California's preeminent legal scholar, Bernard E. Witkin.
