Final Decision
I have chosen to make a music video for the song Old Pine by Ben Howard
Ben Howard is an artist from the indie genre, and is a singer/songwriter
I chose this song as it is quite uplifting
The song also has a summery feel and, as I would be filming in summer, I think I could make a suitable video
The lyrics are also suitable to make a video with perhaps a romance element or a friendship/relationship element
Summary of Narrative
I have decided that my music video will have a loose narrative
Throughout the video two people will feature, with a mixture of friends throughout
The friendship will ‘grow’ throughout the video
But the aesthetics of the video will be the most important thing
Content
The video will be set in multiple country locations such as fields, forests, gardens or beaches around sunset
Close ups will be used to make a personal experience, like friends talking to each other
Handheld camera will be the main camera movement used in the video as this gives it a more indie, home video atmosphere
Point of view shots will be used to make the viewer feel like they’re with the people, making the video uplifting
The lighting will be soft and I will use soft focus as this will create a warm feeling
Messages
The main message in this video will be about friendship and to appreciate it
The uplifting nature of the song allows the video to give the message of enjoying life and your youth
Representation
I will create a representation of youth as carefree and fun loving through the setting and events of the video
A representation of gender will be created as they will both feature in the video
As the main people will be female, they will be represented as loving and enjoying life and their friendship
Andrew Goodwin
This video will have a link between the lyrics and the visuals
The lyrics talk about camping in forest, with people and refers to things relevant to forests, for example pine cones
This closely links to my video ideas

This video will cause the audience to get a negotiated reading from the text
As there isn’t a specific obvious reading/story of the text, the audience will bring personal knowledge and experiences that will let them get more or less from the text
Some people may enjoy the video more than others because of social and cultural context (Morley)
