Laptops and desktops are advancing at a rapid pace. These devices are becoming more interactive, are using an increasing amount of 3D technology, and are breaking free from their wires.

Devices such as the Apple iPad and next gen gaming consoles have inspired PC makers to innovate computers in a way that have never been seen before. As of 2015 Intel is developing a “wire-free” PC that will rely on wireless charging for data transfer and charging. The computer will also rely solely on wireless technology to connect to display monitors.

Interactive computers will be out fitted with 3D cameras that act and operate like human eyes rather than a camera. This means that they will have the ability to measure distances and recognize objects. PCs will be more responsive to our voice, sound, and touch and more equipped to respond to our needs.

Here are a few technologies that are receiving the bulk of innovative efforts from computer manufacturers and technology companies.

WIRELESS CHARGING

Imagine a world where you can simply charge your laptop just by putting it on a table. You wouldn’t need any wires or charging equipment. Well… we’re not that far away!

Intel wants wireless charges to be as common in public places as Wi-Fi is. The early stages of wireless charging technology will be limited. This power will be enough to charge smaller portable devices. Later on there will be enough wireless charging capability to power mainstream laptops.

However, getting wireless charging technology into public places such as libraries, restaurants, and cafés could take years. There are places that currently offer wireless charging for tablets and smartphones. Wireless laptop charging is in the near future.

WIRELESS DISPLAY CONNECTIONSWireless display connections for laptops would remove the need for expensive DisplayPort and HDMI cables. As soon as a laptop gets in range of a wireless display it would start working.

Intel sees laptops as having the capability of connecting to several wireless monitors. This technology could be very useful for meetings and classrooms. One laptop is capable of streaming its monitor to multiple desks at once, just to give you an idea.

WiGig technology will assist in advancing wireless display technology. WiGig is a faster Wi-Fi that can transmit video streams wirelessly. WiGig technology will come to smartphones and tablets first and then transition to computers, TV’s, and monitors.

INTERACTIVE COMPUTERS

Computers will become more interactive in the near future. They will be much more perceptive to our voices, gestures, and have improved visual recognition technology.

The 2D cameras that are installed in PCs will be replaced by 3D cameras. Manufacturers want to make PCs not only recognize commands and gestures but to recognize reading habits and human moods as well.

BIOMETRIC SENSORS

Biometric sensor technology would allow users to use their bodies to interact with computers. For example, you could use biometric authentication to use your fingerprint as a password for multiple websites. You could also use it as a way to authorize credit card payments.

Technology is ever evolving and its future is extremely fascinating. Users have faster and more capable technologies to look forward to in the near future.
