Taj Mahal. Regarded as one of the eight wonders of the world. The most beautiful monument built by a Muslim ruler of India. It is built entirely of white marble and is already 358 years oldA UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, is one of the most popular attractions in India, attracting four million visitors each year.

Historians have warned that the 358 year old Taj Mahal could collapse in the next 5 years.

The monument’s foundation are rotting. (air pollution)The river Yamuna that runs alongside Taj Mahal is highly polluted as a result

of the growing number of industries and deforestation.According to researchers, the mahogany-base foundation of the monument -

which joins the river via a well - has become very brittle. Cracks appeared last year in parts of the tomb, and its four minarets are

beginning to tilt.

Protecting Taj Mahal. There is a special 500-meter security zone established around the complex.Cars are to be parked 2 kilometers away, and the rest of the way tourists have to travel by rickshas, or carriages because it's believed that car exhaust fumes cause yellowing of the marble facing. There is a barbed wire fence on the opposite shore of Yamuna River.Tourists have to hand over their lighters and cigarettes.Security is so tight in Taj Mahal that one cannot even enter with a tripod. Security personnel totals hundreds of men.
