Holy Days, Indeed!

Even as Herod once again rears his ugly head, the community

of faith, the Body of Christ, has the audacity to sing a different song, “My soul magnifies the Lord!” The song continues forever and ever.

Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

During these Holy days, the staff of First United Methodist

Church of Maryville, sing a song of blessing and hope as we celebrate

the arrival of the Christ Child. May you join us in the song.

Young Adult News

We had a great time at the Clarence Brown Theater for “A Christmas Carol.” Twelve adults and two of our kids made the trek to enjoy the theatrics! It was a wonderful afternoon to remind us about the importance of generosity. As we look past the holidays and into the New Year, we are already adding events to our calendar. We hope more Young Adults will join us!

Sharing the spirit of the season with friends This season is filled with opportunities to gather with friends

and family. Last week a couple of dozen members of the

Garst Sunday School Class and a few others gathered in

Wesley Hall to celebrate the season. Chef Amelia Geis

prepared the meal.

Musical Blessings Following months of preparation and rehearsal, the Chancel Choir came together over the weekend to present a stunning musical production Hurry to Behtlehem, Bagpiper Tracy Wilson and a full orchestra kicked the cantata off with a medley of Christmas carols. The Joy Singers joined the choral splendor a short time later with the Star Carol and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing. About 1500 people turned out to see the performances. This year marked the 31st year of the cantata under the direction of Terry Wilson. More pictures of the Christmas cantata are available on the church Facebook page.

Pausing to give thanks As we close one year and start fresh in 2013, we at Good Neighbors would like to pause and say thank you to 1st UMC for your generous support in so many ways throughout this past year. Through your generous and ongoing financial support, buying tickets to the Progressive Dinner, participating in one of our restaurant fundraisers at Papa Murphy’s or Marlin and Ray’s, attending the April ‘Lean on Me’ church choir festival, or even volunteering in the GN office, you have given hope to over 1,200 Blount County families this year facing dire financial situations. We are deeply grateful for your ongoing partnership. Rev. Lisa Blackwood, Executive Director and the Good Neighbors board and volunteers

Christmas Offering

The Christmas offering provides a special way of celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. This year’s offering benefits two local and two foreign missions.
