Status: married with no childrenHome: owns home with mortgageRoberto and his wife Sasha met when they worked in San Francisco during the dot com boom. They enjoy going out to eat with their friends, escaping to the mountains to snowboard on the weekends, or to the beach to surf year round. They just bought a condo on in Mountain View as the school district is really good and it is easy to do most anything within a 10 mile radius. Sasha just left her job as a tech writer and will be freelance writing from home once the baby comes. Their favorite places to shop for their new home are Sur La Table, Room & Board, and small boutiques in the area. Roberto’s travels for work often provide him with interesting art objects for the home.

Elevation

Billboards, water towers and flag poles have one thing in common:

They are visible from a far.

Using the idea of elevation to produce visibility was my focus.

Concept

Initial Concepts

Crank Lock

A key lock to prohibit the crank from turning when left outside for a brief period.

A hidden location of the key lock will make the locked crank inconspicuous.

Headset LockSimilar to motorcycle steering lock. It keeps the front wheel in a unreadable position when not in use.

A key slot could be integrated into the top cap of the steerer tube.

Universal Pannier

Having a pannier that has a universal mount that can easily be removed from backpack straps and be quickly hung on the matching mounts on a bike rack.

Self attached rack mount tabs

By having a simple easy to install rack clips, one could attach them to any bag or case of your choice.

LED FlagA new spin on the old safety flag. By using fiber optics and hi power LEDs to create a light source that is above the average vehicle height. Allowing cars to see the rider even if obstructed by parked cars.

ConceptsThe desired concept was going to telescope. When fully extended the light would then be revealed.

Testing

Fitting

Testing to see what form factor worked the best lead to the discovery that round aluminum was the best option for the telescoping pole.

Technology

Electro Luminesense is a low power light that produced the right amount of light for the flag.

ComponentsAluminium was the perfect material for the mast of the flag and the retension system used a constant rate spring
