technique and style to express his meaningful ideas. He became a pioneering poet who had a

revolutionary type of style and content throughout all of his works .

Because his works straddles the 19th and 20th Cs,Yeats is stylistically quiet a unique poet.

BackgroundWhen Yeats was a child, his father had read to him from Walden, by Henry David Thoreau, and Yeats described his inspiration for the poem by saying that while he was a teenager, he wished to imitate Thoreau by living on Innisfree, an uninhabited island in Lough Gill.

In his youth, Yeats would visit the land at Lough Gill at night, often accompanied by his cousin Henry Middleton. On one occasion, they went out onto the lake at night on a yacht to observe birds and to listen to stories by the crew. The trips that Yeats took from the streets of Sligo to the remote areas around the lake set up for him the contrasting images of the city and nature that appear in the poem's text.

The Lake Isle of Innisfree I will arise and go now ,and go to Innisfree, And a small cabin build there,of clay and wattles made:Nine bean -rows will I have there, a hive for the honey -bee,And live alone in the bee-loud glade.

And I shall have some peace there ,for peace comes dropping slow, Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings; There midnight’s all a glimmer ,and noon a purple glow ,And evening full of the linnet’s wings.

I will arise and go now,for always night and dayI hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore; While I stand on the roadway , or on the pavements grey,I hear it in the deep heart’s core

Analysis

This poem was written by W.B.Yeats at the end of the 19th century, when cities were growing quickly and nature was being abandoned for progress. The poem emphasizes the ability of nature to restore the human spirit.  The poet has not literally gone to Innisfree, however.  In the end, although he hears the "water lapping with low sounds by the/shore", he is actually standing "on the roadway."  The contrast always readers to better understand the importance of nature, because the speaker is imagining it with rich detail even though he is far away from it.Yeats's profession of love for nature is one of his most famous and beautiful poems. It is unusual in this collection as it contains no references to the Irish nationalist movement, to Maude Gonne, or to ancient Irish mythology. Yeats first wrote the poem in London, in 1890, where he was feeling intensely homesick.

There is an enormous use of figure of speech that makes this poem so excellent .

First, there are lots of alteration for example,” And a small cabin build there ,of clay and wattles

made”/“Nine bean -rows will I have there,a hive for the honey-bee”(2-3).

Second ,there is assonance in "slow" and "grow" and "day," "grey," "sings" and “wings.”(5-8).Third, there is a sense of personification for example “where the cricket sings”(6).They make a sound like music, which we describe as human-like singing.
