Lee Sandstead is--without a doubt--the world's most fired-up art

historian. And of all the things that you can say about him, the most

important is that he loves art. With "the help of a beautiful French

woman," he discovered art in his early 20s, and ever since, he has been

on one amazing art adventure after another. From 2007-2009, he was

host of Travel Channel's "Art Attack with Lee Sandstead," which secured a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2009. For the

past decade, he has developed a national reputation as an exciting and dramatic speaker and has expressed his passion

for art at over 100 major institutions including: Harvard, Yale, New York University, The Smithsonian Institution, The

Walters Art Museum, The Chrysler Museum and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Lee Sandstead is also one of America's most-celebrated photographers of art, and his photography has been

published in countless books and publications, including: "The New York Times"; "Fortune"; "Ms."; "Preservation

Magazine"; and "Style 1900." Recently, his collection of interior photography of over 1,300 New York City mausoleums

is being donated to Columbia University's architecture library. This collection shows that Lee has literally traveled where

no other art historian has traveled before.

Lee taught art history at Montclair State University from 2001-2007. In 2008, Lee was nominated for the

prestigious Virginia Governor's Arts Award. He is author of the forthcoming book on art appreciation entitled "In

Pursuit of Art: Lessons from the World's Most Fired-Up Art Historian" and a biography on American master-sculptor

Evelyn Beatrice Longman (1874-1954). Although a resident of NYC for the past seven years, Mr. Sandstead now resides

in Southern Virginia, actively engaging in art education, art history and art-historical photography. Lee currently

teaches art history and photography at Averett University in Danville, VA.

Lee has indicated that his presentation topics will include 1 of each of the following topics. (One hour and fifteen minutes)

1) WHY I LOVE ART: (Session )

Lee believes that motivation is crucial in education, and that every art educator should have their very own talk entitled

“Why I Love Art.” In this talk, Lee will give the attendee his own take on why he loves art, and how some of art-history’s

masterpieces have forever changed his life.

2) I’M HAVING AN ART ATTACK! (Session )

From 2007-2009, Lee tried to spread his passion and knowledge of art through cable TV. What did Lee think of making

TV? Can art become “real” on TV, and what was it like working with a team of people who had never even been to a

museum? These questions and many more will be discussed as Lee relives making the pilot episode of “Art Attack with

Lee Sandstead” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
