The renaissance of an ancient edifice The Domaine Notre-Dame-des-Anges owes its name to the 16th-century chapel found on the site.

The Chavanne de Dalmassy and Cosmétatos residences on the estate were most likely built in the 18th

century. In 1820, the estate was the property of Jean Carbonel, great-grandfather of Alice Chavanne de

Dalmassy. A document dating from this period establishes the presence of a stable, a courtyard, the

chapel, a house, two orange groves, and an oil mill.

In the beginning, there was only one property.

Over the course of this century, the property saw several

tenants, including an American prior to World War II, who

restored the old stable and converted it into a house. This

residence thereafter became Maison Cosmétatos through the

marriage of Alice Chavanne de Dalmassy’s sister.

The separation of the estate was made more pronounced by the

construction of a wall beside the Chavanne de Dalmassy house,

the unhappy fruit of a disagreement between Mr. Cosmétatos

and his sister-in-law. Mrs. Chavanne de Dalmassy took great

interest in the culinary arts and even authored a cookbook. Her

life’s companion, James de Coquet, was a culinary columnist for

Le Figaro newspaper. Mrs. Chavanne de Dalmassy held onto the

estate until her death, when it was passed on by bequest to the

City of Le Cannet.

Today, a new beginning for the estate.

The A3 Studio architectural firm in Mandelieu worked in close cooperation with the national Architecte

des Bâtiments de France (as, it must be remembered, the estate perimeter is a listed historic site) and

created three very different but highly complementary concepts.

One year after laying the foundation stone on May 16, 2009, the Bastide opened to much celebration on

May 7, 2010, with no fewer than 500 guests, including three-star chefs Georges Blanc and Anne-Sophie

Pic as the establishment’s “godfather and godmother,” Michèle Tabarot, Deputy Mayor of Le Cannet,

and ex Cannes Film Festival President Gilles Jacob.

The entire establishment represents 1,400m² of buildings on wooded grounds stretching over 5,000m², all

just 10 minutes from Cannes on a main road well-served by public transport.

Bruno Oger, the rise of a great Chef

Bruno Oger was born on May 9, 1966, in Morbihan in

northwestern France. He fell in love with cuisine at the

tender age of 12, decided to make it his future career, and

swore that one day he would work in a Michelin Guide three-

star restaurant. He earned his CAP (vocational training

certificate) in 1983, then his cuisine BEP (technical school

certificate) from the Lycée Hôtelier de Dinard in Brittany.

When he was 21, he landed two interviews on the same day

with two of France’s greatest chefs, Paul Bocuse and Georges

Blanc. He thus kept the promise he had made to himself and

chose to work in Vonnas, Bresse, with Georges Blanc at his

prestigious three-star restaurant.

In 1989, Georges Blanc gave Bruno the opportunity to

represent him and manage the kitchens at Normandy, one of

the restaurants at Bangkok’s Oriental Hotel (one of the

world’s most beautiful luxury hotels) and that is how, at 23

years of age, Bruno Oger came to oversee a team of 15 cooks.

In 1993, he returned to join Georges Blanc as executive chef.

Page 6: La Bastide Bruno Oger Villa Archange Bistrot des Anges ...€¦ · La Bastide Bruno Oger . Villa Archange – Bistrot des Anges ... including three-star chefs Georges Blanc and Anne-Sophie

In 1995, he was recruited to manage the

kitchens at a luxury hotel on La Croisette

in Cannes, the Majestic Barrière. On his

29th birthday and the day before the start

of the Cannes Film Festival, he opened the

La Villa des Lys restaurant, a Mecca of

gourmet dining for discerning

connoisseurs.

In 1997, he was awarded a first star in the

Michelin Guide. Three years later, the

Chef earned a score of 18/20 and was

voted Meilleur Cuisinier de l’Année by the

Gault-Millau gastronomy guide.

On May 16, 2003, he personally received

the Chevalier des Arts et Lettres medal

from Jean-Jacques Aillagon, Minister for

Culture and Communication.

Page 7: La Bastide Bruno Oger Villa Archange Bistrot des Anges ...€¦ · La Bastide Bruno Oger . Villa Archange – Bistrot des Anges ... including three-star chefs Georges Blanc and Anne-Sophie

In 2005, he was given a second star in the

Michelin Guide. His talent and inventiveness

were now recognized by his peers and the

gourmet culinary press.

Bruno Oger plays a major role in the Cannes

Film Festival. He has produced the most

important official dinners, including those

celebrating the festival’s 50th, 60th , 65th,

66th, 67th & 68th anniversaries.

On May 16, 2009, in the presence of Michèle

Tabarot, Deputy Mayor of Le Cannet, and

Sub-Prefect Claude Serra, he set the

foundation stone for his undertaking in Le

Cannet on the French Riviera.

On February 28, 2011, only 10 months after

the inauguration, the Chef ’s got two Michelin

stars at “La Villa Archange”

3 different worlds in one unique setting It is a unique, down-to-earth ambiance where you quickly find yourself feeling absolutely at home.

Within this one site are multiple dining possibilities and the luxury of taking your time in the shade of

the olive trees, amidst the century-old timber in the courtyard, under the pergola, or beside the water

wall.

La Villa Archange : a gourmet restaurant, two Michelin stars, that has preserved all the inimitable

character of a private mansion with décor that is at once plush and refined, opening onto a private,

shaded inner courtyard under ancient, towering trees.

Le Bistrot des Anges : a fashionable, friendly brasserie that exudes a cosy, welcoming and authentic

atmosphere, serving traditional cuisine of “home-style” dishes at easy-to-digest prices, and the choice of

eating in the glass-enclosed dining room or beside the fountain in the pergola.

L’Ange Bar : a meeting place with décor in fluid, indubitably “Hemingwayesque” lines, where you and

your friends can meet for tea or drinks, comfortably settled in leather armchairs in a quiet, relaxed

environment.

An elegant and extraordinary bar with emerald-green walls strewn with period paintings

found in the vestiges of the estate.

The bar includes two small salons that add a quirky touch to the place: the mirrored red

room is rich with the color of love and passion.

The walls of the blue room are covered with paintings by Hélène Oger. Here her works

are offbeat offshoots of her primary style, taking the form of “ex-votos,” or thanksgiving

plaques. An “ex-voto” is an offering to God bearing a phrase of gratitude for the

granting of a request or favor. The versions hanging in the blue room thank the gods of

the restaurant business, among others, displaying the ultimate in wry, wacky humor,

serving as both décor and sly commentary.

At teatime, you can sample the pastries of the moment and, when evening falls, a

selection of gourmet snacks to enjoy with a whimsical cocktail creation of the house – Le

Caprice des Anges.

La Galerie d’Art

Bruno Oger and his Hélène wife wanted to add a cultural dimension to their establishment.

Hélène Oger, a tremendous admirer of the works of Pierre Bonnard, whose oeuvre is found in

the Le Cannet museum, displays her paintings inside La Villa Archange and will soon hold

painting workshops.

Regional artists will also be able to exhibit their works there.

The word “allegory” alone could sum up Hélène Oger’s artistic and philosophical approach:

textured impressions of wisdom, humanity, kindness, lucidity, and dreams…all barely masked

by the decorative effects of theatrical settings. It is a Commedia dell' arte style with cult

personages, animal disguises, and sumptuous, festive colors…and the hidden truths that an oft-

present “third eye," subtly slipped into the work, invites you discover by looking beyond

appearances.
