Award-winning Film, TV and Game music composer, Kyle Newmaster – a self-professed “Star Wars” fanatic – helped bring the pop culture phenomenon back to avid gamers in the latest LucasArts’ game “Kinect Star Wars,” which was recorded at the famed Abbey Road Studios in London, with the London Symphony Orchestra. The game was released on April 3, 2012. Newmaster is primarily active in film scoring. He recently composed music for “Something Wicked,” Brittany Murphy’s last film; the vampire action feature “Blood Shot;” “Channeling,” an edgy, furturistic drama and Sundance Select’s “The Myth of the American Sleepover” which was an official selection at the 2011 Cannes Festival du Film. Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times called the teen coming-of-age drama, “Poetic … A lovely, gentle and very true film.” In 2007 Kyle contributed music to the internet sensation “Ryan vs. Dorkman 2,” which to date has received more than 15 million views online and counting. This video led to the opportunity to create and orchestrate music for “Star Wars: The Old Republic,” which has garnered critical praise since the game’s release on December 2011. It recently won a Game Audio Network Guild (G.A.N.G) Award for Best Original Soundtrack and Best Instrumental Music at the 2012 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. Born and raised in Minnesota, Newmaster’s deep-rooted interest and talent in music comes from his family. His great grandfather was a published composer for military bands, and his father studied classical music and played a key role in Newmaster’s musical training at a very young age.

Newmaster’s broad musical range and experience throughout his career has given him an advantage in being able to adapt to the ever-changing film/music industries. In 2009, Newmaster arranged and orchestrated for composer Tyler Bates’ edgy score to Rob Zombie’s animated film, “The Haunted World of El Superbeasto.” Newmaster also composed additional music and orchestrated for LucasArts’ “Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings.” Additionally, he completed a variety of string and horn arrangements for “LAX,” the third studio album for hip-hip artist, The Game and also provided horn arrangements for Susan Tedeschi's Grammy nominated contemporary blues album, "Back to the River". That same year he composed a dramatic orchestral score for Hallmark Channel’s movie, “Bound By A Secret”, starring Meredith Baxter. Other credits include: “Little Big World,” “Crash,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and a variety of other shows. When he is not writing music, Newmaster is an active professional trumpet player who performs and records in a variety of groups. He has performed with bands such as "The Brian Setzer Orchestra" and the "Seth Macfarlane Big Band" and has recorded for numerous TV shows and films including Family Guy, Cleveland, America's Got Talent and American Dad. Newmaster holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance and Music Education from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and a master’s degree in Composing for Contemporary Media from The Eastman School of Music in New York. He also frequently gives lectures on composing and the music business at the University level. These speaking engagements recently included an online talk at the University of Pennsylvania Pembroke and he was guest lecturer at his alma mater, UW-Eau Claire. Newmaster also continues to compose and arrange regularly for the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, and has provided music for a variety of the ensemble’s guest artists including Roy Hargrove, Mavis Staples, Ann Hampton Calloway, Branford Marsalis, and many more.
