KCPPS/2013/7 8 March 2013 Dear Parent / Guardian, Kuo Chuan Rejoices! In Dec 2012, the school had requested that LTA construct a covered link way connecting the existing public bus shelter along Ang Mo Kio Ave 3 and the school side gate. We are happy to inform you that LTA has agreed to support this request. The works are likely to be carried out during the June school holidays to minimize disruption. During the construction, the side gate area will be out of bounds. Pupils using the side gate will be redirected to use the pedestrian gate near the exit for vehicular traffic. Thank you for your understanding and patience. The March school holidays start from 16 Mar to 24 Mar 2013. All pupils will return to school on Mon 25 Mar 2013 for lessons in Term 2. SG1: Engaged and Empowered Staff Inspiring Teacher of English Award The above award recognizes English Language teachers who:

• are passionate about making English interesting and relevant to their students

• use innovative methods to engage their students and to help them learn the language better

• are lifelong learners and role models in their own use of the language If you would like to nominate your child’s English Language teacher for the award, you could download the nomination form at www.inspiringenglishteacher.sg. Nominations open on 18 Feb 2013 and all forms must reach the Speak Good English Movement by 6pm on 18 Apr 2013. SG2: Organisational Excellence Updating of Pupil data If you have a change in mailing or residential addresses, contact numbers, email address and commuter status (whether taking school bus or not), please inform your child’s form teacher immediately. Alternatively, you can download the Updating of Contact Information form from the school website (under Publications>Form Downloads), fill it in and pass it to your child’s form teacher. This is to ensure that in an emergency, you can be contacted on time. Travel Overseas during the March Holidays We monitor the well-being of our staff and pupils to ensure the school is a safe place for all. If your child travels during the coming March school holidays and returns from a country with a history of flu outbreak, such as Avian Flu, and reports that he or she is unwell with flu-like symptoms, please take him or her to see a doctor. He or she should rest at home until certified fit to return to school. Upon returning to school, the medical certificate should be submitted to the form teacher.

Supplementary lessons for P6 pupils during March holidays Your child had been given a notice earlier this week on the schedule of P6 supplementary lessons on 18 and 19 March 2013. Please ensure that you have seen it. SG4: Quality Co-curriculum Experience School Sports Day on 15 Mar 2013 (for P3 to P6 pupils only) We will be having our first Sports Day at the Ang Mo Kio site on Fri 15 Mar 2013. All P3 to P6 pupils will report to school at the usual time. They are to bring only a small bag containing their wallet, water bottle, cap, pencil case and if necessary sunblock solution. Dismissal will be at around 12.30pm. Pupils taking the school bus will be sent home by the school bus upon dismissal. They will have their sports/games day on a later date in the year. Partnership Matters Breakfast with Parents (P3) As has been the school’s practice in engaging our parents, I would like to invite you to a “Breakfast with Parents”. Through this session, we hope to develop mutual understanding of the school’s concerns and your child’s needs. Together, we can explore ways to improve the school so that our pupils can be more engaged and better taken care of. Details are as follows: Date: Mon 25 Mar 2013 Time: 7.30 – 8.30 am Venue: KCPPS Inno Hub (Level 4 of Admin Block)

Due to the limited car park space in school, we would appreciate it if you could park at the public car park opposite the school. Please confirm your attendance by completing the reply slip and have your child drop it off at the school General Office School Family Education (SFE) Drop Box by Thu 14 Mar 2013 to facilitate catering of snacks and beverages for you. We seek your understanding that if there is overwhelming response, some of you may be scheduled by our SFE Coordinator to come on the following Monday. For enquiries, you may contact our SFE Coordinator, Mrs Christina Ong at Tel: 81632090. Pupil Safety in the School Bus The school has been alerted that some pupils travelling on the school bus have intentionally removed the seat belt during the bus journey or engaged in activities that distract the bus driver. The school takes a serious view on this as it concerns the safety of your child. The bus company has assured us that as a standard procedure, the bus will only move off from the school compound when all the pupils have their safety belts fastened. Faulty seat belts will also be replaced or repaired. We seek your cooperation that as we conduct briefings, screen road safety videos and send constant reminders to our pupils, you could also assist us to reinforce the safety message to your child. Brochure on Support for Special Needs MOE’s Education Services Division has refined the brochure on the Support for Students with Special Educational Needs in Mainstream Schools. The brochure highlights the roles and responsibilities of:

i. key support personnel such as the Allied Educators (Learning & Behavioural Support) and Teachers trained in Special Needs;

ii. parents and; iii. other school-based itinerant support provided by external organizations in

supporting students with special educational needs. These brochures (in English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil) are available on our school website. Thank you and we wish all the mothers a fulfilling International Women’s Day! Yours sincerely Mdm Teo Ching Ling Principal
