Laya is a very sweet girl. Kind of shy at fi rst but she loves to cuddle and comes for pets on her own terms. Shes not a big fan of being picked up, but will come and sit on your lap on her own. Shes pretty mellow for a 2 year old but she likes to play and be rambunctious. Laya came to KAAP because she wasnt enjoying being in a household with other cats, so she is looking for a fairly quiet home where she can be the only pet.

Please call Daryl at KAAP 250-551-1053 for more information. Other KAAP pets at www.kaap.ca/adopt.

KASLO, BC (February 18, 2016) Th e Village of Kaslo recently initiated stage two of a three stage process in de-veloping a communitywide liquid waste management plan (LWMP). Th is plan will evaluate the overall eff ectiveness of current liquid waste collection, treatment and disposal practices in Kaslo and create a new comprehensive plan for managing the communitys liquid waste well into the future.

TRUE Consulting, a planning and engineering fi rm out of Kamloops, has been hired to assist the community through the fi rst stage of the plan. Scott Wallace, a professional engineer and project manager with TRUE Consultings Trail offi ce, describes the second stage of the LWMP as an oppor-tunity to consult with the community and narrow the list of feasible options and costs. It is anticipated that this second stage of the LWMP will be completed prior to this summer.

Th e Village of Kaslo is requesting public input so that the community may help guide the direction of the plans for managing the communitys liquid waste well into the fu-ture. Public input into this plan is important because once it is complete and approved by the Minister of Environ-ment, there is no mechanism for appeal and it will not be necessary for the Village of Kaslo to hold a referendum to borrow funds necessary for the execution of the plan.

Information on the LWMP will continue to be available on the Villages website at www.kaslo.ca/content/liquid-waste-management.

Questions and comments can be submitted by email to [email protected]. A public open house will

be held in the spring, to discuss the options that have been explored and collect valuable feedback from residents.

Kaslo Teen Programs In ActionNorth Kootenay Lake Community Services Society

(NKLCSS) youth coordinator, Shannon Isaac, is thrilled to announce that Youve Got the Power - Teen Program-ming grant application has been approved by Columbia Basin Trust (CBT) for the amount of $13,990. Several community organizations will be using the funds to develop and deliver programs, activities and events for Kaslo and North Kootenay Lake teens between the ages of 13 - 18 years old.

Kaslo and District Public Library (KDPL) is already in full swing off ering pizza party and movie marathons every other month on a Friday night; and a sleepover movie marathon during spring break. Eddy Boxerman, local and successful game developer, will present Design-ing Your Own Game workshop at the fi rst games night, on Friday, March 4, 3:30 5:30 pm. Games night will also be off ered every other month on Fridays. All pro-grams are free and for youth ages 13 18 years old. Prereg-istration is required by calling 250-353-2942 or email [email protected]

Kaslo and Area Youth Cen-tre (KAYC) and Freedom Quest (FQ) will be hosting an eight week drop in art night, exploring teen topics such as sexuality, gender, men-tal health and partying safe through a little bit of discus-sion and a lot of art. KAYC will be off ering a fun photog-raphy program Design Your Own Calendar with local photographer Louis Bock-ner. Th e fi rst workshop will be held on Th ursday, Febru-ary 25, 3:30 - 6 pm at KAYC. All programs are free and for youth ages 13 18 years old. To register call Shannon Isaac at 250-366-4162 or email [email protected]

Last but not least, Friday night bowling and pizza par-ties at Meadow Creek Hall youth room. Th is will be an opportunity for Kaslo teens to head up the lake and join in on the fun. Teens will be respon-sible for facilitating one group activity while John, our skilled score keeper, will track our bowling games. We will host a teen sleepover bowling night and pizza party at the Meadow Creek Hall and broaden our horizons by inviting our East Shore teens to join in. Coming soon April 2016.

All programs are free and for youth ages 13 18 years old. To register, call Shannon Isaac 250-366-4162 or email [email protected]

Finally, I need to say East Shore, Kaslo and North Koo-tenay Lake teens rock! We had an excellent time, 30 youth participants and seven chaperones, at the Salmo Ski Hill and the Salmo Valley Youth and Community Centre for a night of skiing, playing games, good food and just hanging out.
