Canberra prove they are the real deal---------------------------------------------------------Sydney,NSW- The Canberra Kookaburras made another statement tonight with an emphatic 231-21 victory over the Sydney Blues. The final result flattered the home side as Canberra lead 24-0 at the half with dominant performances by Quarterback Ryan Picker, Receiver Sidney Rice and on defence Linebacker Leon Faust.

"The guys upfront really laid the foundation tonight and it all worked off them" said Picker after the game. Picker was referring to the play of his Offensive Line which gave him the time and space needed to work the ball down the field against a Sydney team that is often the most physical in the League. "They outmuscled us. They wanted it more. they made us play their game" said Coach Graeme Eadie lamenting his teams woeful first half.

Canberra started the with a 13 play drive with almost everything working. Rice made a key reception over the middle, impressively hanging onto the ball despite a big hit from Mike Hodge. Rusty Pettybone finished it off going in untouched as Rookie Lachlan Clydesdale and Right Tackle John Stinchcombe made light work of the Goal line defence. Canberra would score on their opening three possessions, the next two both to Rice who was creating havoc with the coverage. Twice defenders collided into each other in trying to shut him down but Picker was finding him every time.

Sydney looked to have a chance to put points on the board before halftime but Peter Harper did not have the same luxury of space that Picker enjoyed and after being forced to scramble up field lost possession after a strong hit Jay Simpkins. TY Hilton turned things around for Sydney in the third quarter, twice scoring. His first effort was outstanding as he gracefully spun back against the grain of the defence to break open from 35 yards. Matt Smith also scored from close range and at one point the lead was just 10 points and an unlikely comeback was possible.

But Picker steady the ship when he ran in a score after Harper had been picked for a third time.
