Flipping the Classroom through Video AnnotationsDigital video, one of the fastest growing sourcesof media available online, is becoming anindispensable primary resource in many ofthe academic disciplines. Students now useinstructional videos to review lectures, visualizeclassroom cases, reexamine lab practices or learnlanguages. Video annotation tools in pedagogyintroduce a new model of classroom engagementtransforming the unidirectional video discourse intoa bidirectional exchange and flipping the commoninstructional approach. From 200 to 17,000 Processing Cores in Five YearsWe will discuss how we have consolidated andcoordinated scattered, independent researchcomputing assets within the sciences to provide aseamless, integrated private research computingcloud. Over 17,000 cpu now provide support forover 5,000 researchers including over 4 petabytesof storage. This distributed computing system hasdramatically improved our ability to solve large data-driven and grand challenge scientific problems.
