Frizz has been an issue for women all around the world since the dawn of time. 68% of women suffer from frizzy hair** and it can be a constant battle to regain control over bad hair days caused by frizz. nEw taMefriZZ fights frizz on the in-side and outside to provide instant control and style manageability.

WHY STYLISTS LOVE IT

Clients are consumed with finding a solution for their frizz; they’re on a mission to find the perfect products to protect from humidity and tame their frizz. When using the taMefriZZ system, clients experience up to 100% reduc-tion in frizz!

“I have never used a product, that is not a chemical service, that has made this much of a difference in smoothing the hair.” Sonna Brado, US KMS Artistic Team Member

WHY IT’S DIFFERENT

taMefriZZ relies on the powerful fusion of TechnologyNature (De-Frizz System + Pequi & Acacia). It works both internally and externally to instantly calm frizz while delivering long-lasting control and manageability.

HOW IT WORKS

Internally, the De-Frizz System strengthens the hair structure and increases pliability, helping to calm frizz. Externally, the De-Frizz System smoothes the cuticle and reduces the visible effects of frizz. The combined effect tames hair and improves the way the hair lies, letting it fall more naturally into place.

Featured ingredient Pequi Oil is an antioxidant-rich Brazilian fruit found in the Amazon, high in vitamin A and E which is known for taming frizz. Acacia is a tree cultivated in Africa and Australia, rich in sugar derivatives with mois-turising properties, known for smoothing and increasing pliability.

* With use of the TAMEFRIZZ system: shampoo, conditioner, smoothing lotion or taming creme, and de-frizz oil.

For the first time, KMS California will sponsor a charity for one year. The KMS sponsorship aims to raise £20,000 for Mencap and its sister charity ENABLE Scotland, between now and July 2014, with support from the KMS California UK team and KMS salon stockists. There are clear synergies between Mencap and KMS California. Mencap’s goal is to ensure that all people with alearning disability have the opportunityto achieve what they want from life. KMS believe that you should embrace your authentic self and own the rights to make your dreams happen. Both believe in real people, individuality and challenging perceptions.

To launch the sponsorship, KMS invited Mencap receptionist Josie to the Academy in London to create a short video. Josie, who has a learning disability, explained that when she had been at school she had real difficulties with communicationand movement. She can now walk un-aided, speak beautifully and, thanks to Mencap’s employment support services, has a full time job.

You can see Josie speaking about the sponsorship at: www.youtube.com/kmscaliforniauk

KMS will be hosting ‘Style Sessions’ foryoung people with a learning disability to learn some basic hairdressing tech-niques and gain valuable work experi-ence at their Academy in London. This will help to boost their confidence, while while offering key skills for future employment.

Along with various established fund-raising events, such as the annual Dodge-ball tournament and sportingchallenges, KMS will also be running ‘Mencap week’ in September – a week

8 LFW REPORT

Bora aKSU a/wEarlier this year, KMS California teamed up with Turkish designer Bora Aksu at London FashionWeek for the third time. Bora, famed for his romantic, dark and playful style, invited KMS to be his exclusive hair partner.

The show took place in the Courtyard Space at Somerset House in front of a celebrity filled crowd including Kate Nash and Laura Whitmore.

Bora’s A/W 13 collection is inspired by post war dancehall ladies, the indomitable Rosie & Jenny Dolly, and relies heavily on references from the early 20th century. He states “The Dolly sisters became the poster girls of the vaudeville acts, their fame hanging on the near-perfectly syn-chronised mix of innocence and mischief. For a few short years however, they were amongst the greatest and glamorous women in the world.”

The Sarah Hodge Group in Somerset, BurlesqueHair in Wales and members of the KMS UKEducation Team, worked together to style the model’s hair backstage alongside head stylist Chrysostomos Chamalidis. The main objective for the hair was to achieve an extremely high shine look, this was created by painting the hair with HAIRSTAY styling gel and finishing gener-ously with SILKSHEEN polishing serum. Plaits were randomly spray painted blue to offer an extra element to the otherwise simple braid and were then twisted and coiled around the back of the head, to reinforce the 20’s referencing.

Another key element of the Bora Aksu show is the ever famous spectacular head pieces chosen to accompany the looks and this season was no exception as beautiful lace and crocheted skull caps framed the models faces.

Chrysostomos Chamalidis says: “I followed Bora’s lead and took my inspirationfrom both the Dolly sisters and Jane Eyre. I wanted to replicate their glamour and allure. I modernised the look by contrasting the high shine gloss with the controlled braids at the back of the head.”

to present their A/W 13 Collection for London Fashion Week. Urban chic met gothic grunge as the models stomped down the catwalk with their wispy hair billowing behind them.

The show took place in the Courtyard Space at Somerset House with a FROW including Stooshe and Pandemonia. Marjan Pejoski, Creative Director and Koji Maruyama, Head of Design, for KTZ promised it would be a witchy and tarot card inspired collection.

Monochrome was a key feature for the collection, as were the oversized accessories. Baseball capswere exaggerated by increasing the peak size dramatically, sunglasses were given horns and ‘Le diable’, meaning the devil, was emblazoned across jumpers and letterman jackets.

The showcase came to an end with a playful injection of bold red colours, again a nod to the devilish referencing.

The Sarah Hodge Group and Burlesque Hair joined head stylist Liam Curran backstage. Hair was pulled in a low ponytail with all of the front section left down around the face. HAIRPLAY sea salt spray was dried into the hair to give texture and create a weathered appearance, the look was finalised with dewy makeup and nude lips.

Liam Curran states “The collection was inspired by tarot cards so I wanted to create something fairly witchy with an old fashioned gypsy look to it, so that is where the long wispy texture came in! The back was a long ponytail which was perfectly sectioned from ear to ear which left the hair at the front to fall free and move with the models.”

10 UPDATE 07/13

Jessica is one of the LA stars of our Real People Campaign and a true style inspiration. She has a very unique style and loves to embrace fashion in different ways everyday. Here she gives us the run-down on what fashion means to her and some top tips on how you can find the style that is true to you.

My mother started my life-long obsession with fashion. Mom taught me early on that even the littlest details of an outfit are important, down to what she calls “confidence undies”- panties that are cute, comfy, and brand new for big events - because each and every piece of clothing you wear affects how you carry yourself. If every last garment that’s touch-ing your skin makes you feel fabulous, then something magical happens - you actually are fabulous. This magic captured me, fascinated me, and pulled me in to the world of style.

Growing up I was super shy (I still am!) but I also had a flair for the dra-matic. Fashion helped me reconcile these differences in my personality: clothes could say what I wanted to say and I didn’t even have to open my mouth. I loved that with just one look anyone could tell that I was fun, playful, conservative, professional, wild, laid-back – depending on my mood, of course. This idea is so liberating - fashion lets me be 100% of myself in all my contradictory glory.

In every outfit I wear, including this one, these contradictions are play-ing with each other. The high neckline, layered shirts, and circle skirt are throwbacks to the conservative 50s; but the bright, clashing colours and short hemline are anything but conservative.J

StyLe

When I stumbled upon this ladybug printed shirt, I knew it had to be mine. The print is kooky, cute and tiny enough that it’s not over- whelming. However, an all-over tiny print on a white background can be less than flattering, so I threw on a solid and form-fitting red sweater to redefine my hourglass shape. I love mixing different prints so I chose a skirt with a contrasting pattern, but in a compli- mentary colour so that the two prints didn’t have to compete for attention. Since there is so much colour and pattern in this look, I kept my accessories minimal and my shoes neutral. This mix feels true to who I am (at least right now): classic, classy, confident, and looking to have a good time!

My advice to anyone still discovering their sense of style is to be open to any and all influences. Pick and choose how everything in your life - upbringing, friends, home, travels – will affect you and your fashion choices. For me, my dad’s Italian ego gives me the sassy swagger it takes to pull off crazier looks; my Jersey- girl upbringing is responsible for my love of big hair and heavy mascara; a Boston education taught me the basics of preppy layering; and my time in LA has brought out my inner hipster rock star. This jumble of seemingly disconnected influences creates a one-of-a-kind style that can’t be matched!

If something speaks to you, don’t be afraid to try it- style is about taking risks! All trends start with one person having the courage to step out of their comfort zone and say, “This is who I am and this is what I like.” Why shouldn’t that be you? Jessica x

Earlier in the year the London Underground Orchestra gave their much-anticipated first and last performance at legendary venue Shepherd’s Bush Empire. As the finale of the 12.12.12 Challenge led by visionary musician Shaun Buswell, the orchestra was formed of individualsthat he had approached on the London Underground over the space of one year. KMS California was the proud headline sponsor of this unique and inspiring event.

Shaun set a challenge, one year ago, to put together an orchestra of strangers for a one-night performance. To make this more difficult he set out a list of strict rules, including that he could only recruit people carrying musical instruments while in tube stations or on the tube. He also had to talk to every person he saw carrying an instrument, even if they didn’t want to talk to him! He gave himself a deadline of 12.12.12 to recruit his final line-up.

As a brand that has “Real Lives, Real People, Your Style” at the core of everything they do, KMS was the perfect partner for this ambi-tious challenge to bring strangers together for one worthwhile cause – to raise money for Daytrippers, a charity dedicated to making the lives of terminally ill children more pleasant with memorable days out. KMS created a hair team to ensure the Orchestra looked their best before they stepped on stage, plus goodie bags for every musician that had given up their time for this cause. The KMS backstage hair team included Rachel Hurley from the KMS Academy, and Mikaela, Lauren and Lucy from Spirit Hair Company in High Wycombe and Wallingford.

Sam ward, PR Manager for KMS California UK, said of the event:“We were delighted to be involved in such an inspiring event. What Shaun achieved is a great motivator to get out there and get networking! It just goes to show that if you have a shared dream anything is possible.”

Shaun’s challenge was completed, as the 68-strong orchestra performed to a full-house, with a set that included classical, rock and pop music. For more information about the 12.12.12 Challenge visit YouTube (search 12.12.12 challenge).

In July, the KMS Editorial Collective UK team was joined by special guest, Liam Curran, as they attended the Academy London for a day of education. The KMS Editorial Collective team, formed in March, was treated to an ‘up close and personal’ afternoon with the rising session star.

The Editorial Collective auditioned for their place on the team back in March, applyingwith a photograph and then giving a live presentation with a model. They have since attended creative and product knowledge workshops to prepare them for the pres-sures of backstage hairdressing.

There are six core members of the KMS Editorial Collective:

ANDREA DORATA Dorata Hairdressing, Henley

JANE FREEMAN Anthony John Salon, Lichfield

VASSOS KESTA Hectik Hair, Bromley

SAMANTHA EARL Hair Associates, Kingston-upon-Thames

ASHLEY MACMILLAN Paterson SA, Edinburgh

NEIL SMITH Barrie Stephen, Leicester

The team will support KMS at events such as London Fashion week in September and the Little noise Sessions in november.

Inspiring the team, Liam brought the latest catwalk trends to life, demonstrating editorial looks, session tips and then deconstructing the look to make it salon-ready for clients. Liam explained that he has to carefully prep the hair to ensure he gets the desired result. He also explained that his “can’t live without product” is HAIRSTAY medium hold spray.

KMS Editorial Collective gets creative with session artist Liam Curran

The team were then challenged to recreatethe look, but with an injection of their own personality and creative vision. An after-noon of energy, passion and creativity resulted in six immaculate interpretations of Liam’s look, all with their own signature style and a team hungry for more.what’s next for the KMS Editorial Collective Team?
